Greetings from Michigan

Feb 22, 2023

    1. Hello! My name is Amanda, and I've been into dolls most of my life. I remember when I was thirteen and thinking "Why do I still like Barbie dolls? I need to grow up!" As an adult, I know better. One of my favorite quotes reads, "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." --George Bernard Shaw. This absolutely applies, doesn't it?

I didn't get back into dolls until 2017 when I was randomly searching Sailor Moon stuff on ebay. I found a Sailor Moon Pullip. Looked at Pullips for awhile and caved and bought Pullip Akemi. Seemed insane to me at the time to spend that much money on something that has no purpose; but I wanted her. From there I collected a few other Pullips and then I saw a Smart Doll. Game over there.

Sold my Pullips, had 2 Smart Dolls for awhile, and moved on to Dollfie Dreams. I was never interested in owning a resin, but I loved looking at pictures of them. I have 3 Dollfie Dreams (or will have after selling the rest). Vowed that I wasn't going to have anymore dolls, and then a friend showed me a picture of Super Dollfie Marie Antoinette. I was floored.

Found ways to justify the cost and with hubby's blessing, entered the JP lottery. Lost, and entered the US one with a day to spare. If I won, awesome, if I didn't, then I'd be able to get my digital camera I want faster :P Luck would be that I won, and now I have my first resin doll coming in March. I'm excited but also nervous for fear of breaking or damaging her.

The smell of vinyl to me is intoxicating, but I've heard new resin is pleasant, too. I can't wait to find out. Happy to be here ♥

    4. Welcome. I started with Dollfie Dream vinyl dolls. I entered (and lost) the lottery for SDGr Mytyl, but she popped up for sale on Mandarake last month and now I actually have her.

Her faceup is sensational and I love her her joints click into place. My biggest fear is forgetting her lower torso is jointed and she'll smash her face on my furniture.

My stupid noob unforseen resin issue: wigs do not like staying on resin heads like they do on vinyl heads. But I was super fortunate to choose a resin doll who wears a bonnet :dance.

    5. Thanks for the welcome and the heads up about the wigs for resin girls! I've always avoided those silicone head caps because of bleed through with darker wigs, but they might be a need or veclro. I'm so glad you got Mytyl! Do you love her as much as your vinyl girls? I'm worried that I won't like Marie as much as I do my DDs. I'm anxious for her to ship and see her in person.

    6. I think Mytyl is amazing but she is very much a doll for sitting on a shelf. The vinyl girls think she should belong in a museum.

My vinyl dolls move around the house a lot more and I always choose a couple to come in and watch the TV in the evening. They really love watching TV. I find they're pretty rugged - my first (Towa) was regularly attacked by my sister's cat and Kirika got badly stained but recovered from that too.
