Greetings from Feisty & Kenzie

Apr 26, 2023

    1. Hello all. I am new to the BJD collecting scene and would love to find out more about how everyone here got started and what your favorite dolls are, who's eyes are the best and all that. I have ordered my first BDJ and right off the bat I'm going for a hybrid between a Minifee Mirwen head, a Doll Leaves body & eventually getting the hands that fit that body from other creators.

I wanted to get into something that would enhance my creativity while bringing back the memories from when I was younger. I made my first jointed doll when I was 13 from some scrap fabric and have missed making the outfits for her. It was nothing special but it sparked the interest that I somehow forgot until I came across a Pukifee picture many many years ago. That little smiling face was in the back of my mind for years before I decided to actually look it up and see what I could find. I have changed my mind from the Realfee to Littlefee and finally settled on the Minifee as that body type is more in line with Kenzie's.

Kenzie is base off a character I've played for the past 6 years and she has a lot of stories. From being turned at the age of 16 during the Victorian era, to fighting lycans & demons, to falling in love with a handsome elf with a Scottish accent only to lose him suddenly. The petite kindred being chosen to become a reaper as she attempted to unalive herself, the sudden influx of power almost driving her mad.

I don't have her doll yet to get the look I want, have to do some heavy research on dying the resin from a few different companies to make it all match the right shade and everything so that she can be lightly tanned with pale blue eyes & soft honey brown hair with blonde highlights. I do have a lead on the mohair for the wigs I will be making for her just gotta get the right amount ordered.

I have been on youtube so much looking up everything I can find about proper care, what to expect, how to restring and everything so I can be prepared. I just can't wait to bring her home. I will have pictures when I get her and get everything sorted. Even going to try my first face up and yes I do have a practice doll to play with.

    2. Lifelong doll collector. Back around 2004 I saw a secondhand BJD for sale on a website primarily selling Sasha Doll clothing, and asked the site owner about it, thn looked aorund online and found a little local (UK) based forum where thy explained all th confusing terminolgy to me, and I bought by first BJD (secondhand, from Ebay, as I didn't want to dela with a company in a non-English speaking company in case the language barrier causd problems - plus, I wanted to see photos of the actual doll and faceup I was getting not generic company photo's of that sculpt).

All these years later, a few BJDs have been and gone again (mostly 8 inch dolls, for some reason they don't stay) and I've amassed a resin family of over 50 BJDs on top of the house full of other, off-topic, dolls, bear and stuffies.

The majority of my SD sized BJDs are a family froiup form a big, extended Victorian family, and they're mostly children rather than adults or teens, which can be problematic getting a variety of bodytypes since so few 1/3 BJD's have immature bodies and I'm extremely opposed to going down the creepy route of immature faces on mature/adult bodies with my dolls.

      .

I seem to have fixated on RML headsculpts early on in my BJD collecting (second doll I ordered) and have severla of their sculpts with multiples of two sculpts in particular. Now they're no longer around I tend to snap up any I see on the secondhand market.

As for eyes, it's all a mater orf personal taste. I find that eyes made for reborn dolls are realistic looking without carrying the OTT pricetags of eyes marketed specifially for BJDs. They're acrylic, which some people look down on, but they look good to me and, honestly I don't see why so many people are so ga-ga over glass eyes, whihc are often less detailed, more expensive and don't look as good. And, from my experince, high-dome eyes tend to make the doll look cross-eyed in photo's and limit the positioning in the eye-socket because of the dome getting in the way.

    3. Hello and welcome! You character sounds amazing. I hope you'll share your journey with us.

    4. Hihi and I was planning on it. Is there anything I should know about as far as the pg rating? I know a bit of it is ..... spicy to say the least. I can skip those parts though if it's a problem.

    5. Generally, this is a pretty mature forum, but keep it tasteful. Mild gore/body horror is usually fine as long as you add a warning to the thread title. Abuse, especcially glorification of abusive relationships is best avoided. Nudity is usually fine as well, it's a doll forum after all, we need to be able to share pictures of undressed bodies. Sexual stuff is probably best left off site, there are better places for that, I'm sure.
If you consider posting something that you suspect may be a bit much you can always ask the mods before you post to make sure it's ok.
Oh, and read through the rules, of course. They don't go into much detail, but they do give general guidelines of what is ok and not.

    6. Awesome thank you

    7. I started this hobby in 2008. My BFF got me interested at first and then I went to a panel at SDCC where I can see a BJD in person and I just knew I was hooked. They gave me a list of doll makers back in the day and a url to this forum. I joined immediately once I got home and research the heck out of the forum and websites. I found Doll In Mind which had the minimee custom services and I had Rufus Shinra from Final Fantasy VII made for me.

Anywho your character sounds interesting. I can't wait to see what doll you get at the end and good luck!

    8. I've decided to go back to her early years. Prior to being turned. She's about 15 when she's turned but she looks about 13ish. Still a little chubby whit no discernable mature markers. It fits with the doll I fell in love with.
