Granado Tiny Doll Discussion

Apr 21, 2018

    1. oh, that opens up a world of possibilities!! how well does it fit? Are there issues at the chest/shoulder? (I've checked the measurements of the Starry body and those seem like the only places where it's smaller than the adagio, so I'm wondering

This makes me want to check if other yo-sd sized outfits might fit...

    2. It fits across the chest just fine and the length of the arms is fine. It's a bit large around the waist but that isn't a problem. I had to take his right hand off to get the sleeve over his arm but that was simple enough. I was surprised but very pleased it fit so well. No alterations needed but I will take in the hook and eye on the skirt so it doesn't slide down onto his hips.

    3. Cool. I'd looked at those, but all the offerings still seemed childish compared to the one you HUNG OUT IN FRONT OF US to LUST OVER. Ooops... Sorry. Got carried away. :D He looks gorgeous. I'm surprised it's long enough!. And thanks for pointing me at the site. I spent a fair amount of time analyzing how they're making those pleated edges on the big guys' kimono. Super pretty.

    4. Hi hope you don’t mind me posting here. I emailed granado recently to ask about Noah ads I saw the big ones were out of stock and they’ve replied today to say they have a tiny Noah and would I be interested but I have no idea what size that is or how much and can’t find it on the website. I have emailed them back but in the meantime does anyone know what size he would be and a rough price ? Thank you in advance :)

    5. Ah my bank will not allow me to spend that much until next month sadly. I really like Noah’s face and was thinking it would have been a nice compromise as I’m unable to get a large doll at the moment.

    6. You might ask Granado if you can pay in March or they do offer layaway for orders over $300. If you add a faceup you will be over that amount.

      • x 1
    7. Oh really? I would want a faceup .. I’ll email them and think about it. Are they likely to sell the large Noah again do you think?

    8. Yes, I'm sure Noah will be available again.

    9. Another stupid question from me- is body blushing a necessity? Is this something that can be done at home? I don’t think I’d be brave enough to try a faceup but I could probably manage some shading etc. I’m just looking at the tiny Noah and adding a faceup is $70 and then adding body blushing is more on top plus hands etc. is it worth getting anyway? Does anyone have any comparison photos of a doll with and one without? I can’t visualise so I need to actually see it to understand the difference.

    10. Sigh...Tha's okay. We'll just ogle from the sidelines. :D Seriously, I'm looking carefully to see how it's constructed with so many layers and still so slim. And I just saw the measurements for their 1/6 and they are 31cm, which explains the length! That surprised me. So used to thinking of this size as Wiishus of one sort or another, I expect them to be around 26cm. Cool!

    11. I don't see that he's got any of the tiny bodies with blush, but here's there link for the 70 Adagio, which is blushed. The small bodies are what they look like not blushed.

    12. i have a white skin body that I got blushed and I think it was a bit too much. I'll try to get a picture with my white skin Jane who is not blushed.

    13. Thank you. I like the look of the blushing but I wonder if it’ll be overpowering on a small one.

    14. That would be awesome thank you. It’s so much easier to see a direct comparison like that.

    15. The light is not too great but hopefully you can get the idea

    16. Ohhh I like the body blushing. Thank you so much for showing me. I appreciate it.

    17. And a the x-rated version!

    18. I'm going to try it on some when I finish with some modding. Will post pics! One of the big things is, it's going to chip. If you do as much posing as I do with my "kids" I fear it won't hold up well I just want to try doing it. Just waiting for weather to be favorable for Mr SC

    19. Oh goodness. That’s a lot more detailed than I was expecting It’s just the men who have that level of detail I presume.

    20. Oh really? I do plan to do a lot of posing I think. If it chips is it easily fixable or would that have to be sent off to be done?

    21. Just the men!

    22. For some reason I was expecting the small dolls to be like action figures but with more realistic faces if that makes sense. I’m fascinated by the level of details.

    23. You mean BJD have more realistic faces than action figures? That's completely the opposite, if that's the case. Action figure faces can be as realistic as you would never expect a toy to look, like actual portraits of real-life celebrities if you are into that. OT, I know, because you are mainly discussing about downstairs but the part about the faces was a bit surprising to me, being a collector of action figures myself, although rarely of actual real-life-people. I just own a bunch of them, to know most are far more realistic looking than any BJD I've ever seen, although downstairs most do look like Ken, some can have realistic bits too, if that's want you like (not something I'm interested in, but if you look at Phicen silicone bodies, you'll be shocked at how realistic those can look, and the male bits are just as scary -- the females can also be a bit too detailed for my taste). Lol! DX

    24. I’ve never seen a realistic action figure. Unless we’re using realistic in a different meaning. I had an action figure type doll briefly when I was into One Direction and it looked so fake I hated it. I briefly considered buying the BTS dolls when Mattel brought them out but again they’re so fake looking. To me bjd look far more like real people but then I guess I’m not into the fantasy ones or anything. There’s no way you could take a photo of Ken( or Barbie) and think they were a real person but I’ve seen photos of bjd’s and had to look twice to check if they’re a doll or a person. One of my daughters thinks bjd’s are creepy purely because they look more like a person than a standard doll. She said the blank face dolls were less creepy because they looked more like dolls.
I haven’t heard of Phicen so I shall go google

I’ve just looked and wow they do look realistic. I think I was expecting all action figure dolls to look like Ken and Barbie. I stand corrected.

    25. Lol! I guess most people who don't collect 1:6 action figures would assume all "Barbie" to be action figures, but most action figure collectors don't even think of Barbie as being a figure (I collect both, but think of Barbie as a fashion doll, more than an action figure). I mostly collect video game and anime action figures, so those are not hyper-realistic, but the ones based on real people, like the ones Hot Toys makes based on Marvel and other licenses, can be confused with real people. You learn something new every day, that's what I like about this hobby, or any toy hobby really. Thanks for replying to my busybody comment, which really had nothing to do with BJD (more like a meddlesome comment from a traditional artist that favors realism in toys to some degree but is mostly a 1:6 figure afficionado). Lol! (:

    26. You definitely do learn something new everyday. I’ve been scrolling through a bunch of pictures but actually I think I prefer the look of bjd’s. The silicone is cool but all the bodies are too muscly and I didn’t see any faces I liked. I’m into Asian looks ( I blame kpop for that lol ) rather than European/Western and there didn’t seem to be many of those. I did spot some girls and 1 man but that was all. I did see a bunch of really cool clothes and accessories which might come in handy though. And I spotted one that my son might like ( he looooves Marvel) so that’s one Christmas present idea sorted ☺️☺️

    27. I'm not into silicone bodies myself (I hate squishy toys!), I only own one female so far, but only because it was one of very few options for the kit I purchased. I far prefer PVC, ABS, or any other hard plastic like in the good old days of action figures. Nowadays, most companies use a rubbery plastic for the upper torso, which I loathe to no end, but comes with most brands so you can't really do much. I still far prefer those bodies however, to the silicone ones, and again, I only own one and don't have plans to ever get any more of those. If you do get into 1:6, be careful as there are tons of illegally copied head sculps, bodies, and other parts, particularly ones from Hot Toys -- which is the most popular brand out there right now. There are smaller companies making their own head sculpts, like Super Duck, who make a lot of "cosplaying" kits, and tend to be females with Asian features. And some that make loose heads like DS Toys, YM Toys, Fire Girl Toys, all females with mostly Asian features. The only ones making male head sculpts with Asian features are Kumik and Ringtoys (whom are Ringdoll in this hobby), but the latter are only doing full set figures. The paint apps on the smaller company releases tend to be hit-or-miss, but if you don't mind doing partial repaints you get a decent head sculpt, for a decent price. Second market Hot Toys sculpts tend to go for an eye off the face, but they don't do loose parts and rarely release single bodies anymore.

The clothes might fir some of the tiny granado people, I don't own any myself (yet), so I can't confirm. However, based on the shoe or feet measurements, some of the shoes might fit on the males. Depending on the shoe type, as some are hollow meant for feet, and some have sculpted feet glued to the shoe, or sculpted as part of the shoe for joints, so those don't work for BJD, unless one or the other are heavily modified. (:

*Stupid autocorrect doesn't do much, does it?

    28. Gosh wow thank you for al the info. Seems there’s a lot more to dolls than I realised before. I definitely have a lot to learn and read about ☺️
( ps yep autocorrect very often doesn’t )

    29. I don't have one blushed yet, so can't really answer. Hopefully someone will have better info. Depends, I'm sure, on how thick the msc (or whatever sealer they use) is. And where the blushing is. I will try to make it so the joints become the highlight point and are basically bare of blush. The fragile points will be the points of friction. i.e. on the torso, the upper chest section should hold up well. The part of the torso that is rubbed as the torso is moved I'd leave bare. Crocus is obsessed with the aesthetics and does this lovely, complete body blush that looks fabulous nude. Since I'm not going to be doing a bunch of nude photography, I'll keep the blushing to areas likely to be exposed.

You might consider using this as a way to ease into doing your own blushing. It's not as if it's permanent. that way, if it does chip, you just lightly sand, reseal and repair. It's not as fragile in that sense as a faceup.

    30. That sounds a lot more manageable than a faceup actually. And more easily hidden/ removed if it goes wrong. I’m also not likely to be doing much nude, just abs occasionally and collarbones but that’s about it I think. I’ll go and read all the threads about blushing now I guess and do some learning :) Thank you for the help and advice ☺️

    31. Another question from me- I did search but didn’t really find anything.
Are the 4 pairs of tiny hands worth it? I’ll potentially want to do different poses holding things etc. I know you can get the jointed ones for the bigger dolls which makes life easier but I presume for these little ones it’s just the standard ones and the extras.
And on the subject of hands how do they attach? Are they easy to take on and off or is it likely to be something that’s too awkward to do? Sorry for all the questions.

    32. The Granado dolls use S-hooks for their hands. How easy they are to switch would depend on how comfortable one is with swapping hooked on hands and feet.

    33. Eek I’ve never tried it. Is it really fiddly? If it helps at all I’m comfortable knitting on 1.5mm needles and make beaded bracelets from pretty small beads so if it’s no worse than that I think I could do it. Maybe I can find a video somewhere that shows it ?

    34. I think you would do fine with changing hands!

I will try to take some pictures of the process.

    35. Good to know thank you. I think I’d probably be more scared of damaging the doll than not being able to do it

      Some pictures would be awesome!

    36. It's not too hard to swap the hands! You just need something to hold the elastic so it doesn't snap back inside the arm. I either use a pair of forceps, shove something in the loop (like a pencil or a skinny paintbrush or something) or just... Hold onto it with my hands! I don't recommend that last one as much.

      • x 1
    37. Lol I can imagine it pinging back if I tried to just hold it. Do you use the hands much? Are they worth it ?

    38. So..I may have just ordered my first bjd on layaway ( but hoping to pay him off early ) ☺️

      • x 2
    39. Congrats on your order! I hope you will enjoy your doll went it arrives!!!

I personally only have one pair of hands, which I've sometimes had to remove so I could put on outfits with tight sleeve opening. It felt scary the first time, less so now.

    40. Thank you!
I’m still deciding on the hands. It’s my birthday in April so I’m calling this my birthday present to myself so I might treat myself and get the hands as a little extra gift haha

    41. I also only have one pair of hands for this boy, and mostly just put on the little "clothes changing" attachment they sent with him. But! I have extra hands on some of my other dolls and it IS nice to have the options... I've been meaning to get the set from Granado actually! So that's a ringing endorsement from me in the hands department. It really does get less scary the more you do it, too!

    42. I think I will get them you know. I like the idea of different hand poses.

    43. This is the last day for the new 32Evlove package.
