BJD - Eye tests I needed to test out different eye sizes with different head models from Granado. I got eyes from Granado and from Alice’s Collection. Those from the latter have a very prominent bump. This bump give this awesome effect of your doll’s gaze following you when you move, BUT it is also there reason for the gap between it and the corner of the eyes. The ExtraS iris glass eyes from Granado are best to fit with Granado’s heads (thank you capt obvious) as the bump is minimal and most eye sockets are realistic on male heads. Then again, I have not tried other models from other companies, so I could be wrong. This being said, you can’t be wrong by matching a Granado head with their ExtraS iris glass eyes. As said earlier, their bump is prominent and makes it more difficult to fit since the inside of the eye surface is flat. In my opinion, the 10 mm ones gives the best iris size effect, but on some heads you can see a gap. Very good when you want your character to look young or innocent. The gap is practically invisible unless you look directly inside the eye’s corners. Also, they make it feel like the pupil is the Iris, and the Iris takes the place of the white of the eyes. Again, the gap is caused by the bump going against the flat inside of the eyes. Does Granado ever sell just the eyes? It seems like they’re always marked “out of stock” all the time. I bought mine with a fullset.
They don't sell them individually, no. Unfortunately. But they do offer them as bundles with head models. This is how I got mine
No, I meant the other brands you tried. I know Alice Collections has a few small iris eyes and was wondering how they did.
OH sorry >< That I wouldn't know... I haven't tried those yet Unless they have measurements on the picture, then I could compare them to the ones I own...
When I got my Vindoll Udell I bought a pair of small iris ACs eyes because I didnt like the oney he came with. But like you, I didnt like the gaps. I've since taken up making my own resin eyes and made a mold especially for my big guy and it's much better now. Overall I think special made resin eyes are better suited for realistic male sculpts. Its simply easier to work with an artist who can make you exactly what you want vs. the try-and-error that comes with pre-made stuff. At least thats my take on it.
