~ Granado ~ General Discussion part 5!

Jan 9, 2013

    1. Risou, thank you so much!! You should spam your guys too--I love seeing everyone's dolls!

    2. Congrats on the shipping notices!

Rosslyn, we'll take pictures of Aiden by flashlight! :)

Kirika, V-02 does seem to be scarce. I'll try to spam him more, once he has his body. I need to find just the right red wig for him. So far he's rejected everything.

    3. Alewife, why are these dolls so fussy about their hair? I finished the Captain's hat and it does (thank goodness) fit over his hair:

It's not quite a standard RN hat..it was originally (in the "story" such as it is) a French Navy Lieutenant's hat...as the Captain would explain it, "I was commanding a boarding party of a snow (a small yacht-like ship), and in heavy seas; I engaged the commander of the ship with my sword, having lost my pistols in boarding--and a mis-step and a heavy swell carried him overboard. I dropped my sword and went in after him, losing my hat; and with some assistance from my own men got the Lieutenant back on board, much to his astonishment. He asked me why I had rescued him, and I replied that "I had no idea who else had the authority to surrender the ship's command to me." This seemed to amuse him, and he said he would indeed surrender the ship, as his own crew were now prisoners; but only on the condition that I have a proper hat to command a French ship; and then he went to fetch his own hat and presented it to me, along with his sword."

There is a cockade on the side, it's hard to see here--Coppersmith says it looks like "A nautilus with indigestion."

These Davon heads all look so different from each other! It's so fun to go back and compare the faces.

    4. He doesn't need pants as long as he has a hat! Love the story!

    5. But a story only gets you so far, and then you need pants! : ) )

    6. That is an awesome hat and an awesome story, Fishcake, and of course I squee'd over all the details- I'm a genre fan.

    7. Rosslyn thank you! Happy to entertain! Now it is time for you to find Aiden, a flashlight and a camera :D

    8. Oh fishcake....jaw drop. My interest is thoroughly peaked. I am going to need the power of greyskull to keep me from heading straight to Granado and putting a Davon on layaway tout suite. Nice job on the hat...can't wait to see it with more angles etc...complete outfit, the crew. Thanks for the gorgeous teaser and snippet!

    9. mdonline you should put his *head* on layaway because that will be the sticking place if you want one later! And thank you--I just need more time to sew and spend less time working on the house (I did not mow the lawn today, for one thing). That or just sleep less ;)

    10. I didn't end up needing a flashlight- I caught some daylight in my apartment, but all the props are at my studio, so here he is just standing around.

      Aiden, Volks Yukinojo/Granado.

    11. And that is all he needs! I love his clothes, with all the teeeeeny embroidery!

    12. I LOVE that outfit Rosslyn!

And Fishcake, that hat looks fabulous! Loving his story, too!

    13. Hi Aiden! Rosslyn are there more pics of his outfit somewhere? I love the details.

Fishcake - Great suggestion. Davon is limited...I feel like such a dork for not even considering putting just the head on layaway. :dohI've only ever bought full dolls I guess cause most of my characters jump out quickly and I'm a wimpy newb intimidated by hybridizing (although I'm getting over this).

I'm just being greedy with Davon:sorry (and Xavier, Sidonia, Gitana, Charles...lol). I guess knowing myself this would be dangerous territory. $160 is mentally SOOO much more digestible than $600!

    14. So many boys and girls here with fabulous clothes, and yet Rinzer hates them all.
      "Real men go shirtless."
Wait until his competition gets here. Not sure if I'm looking forward to it or dreading it. XD

    15. Anchix, thank you!
mdonline03 you aren't hybridizing, you are just doing collecting in installments ;) That is why I bought everyone in pieces so far!
LuckyXIII Rinzer saves you a great deal of time and money with that philosophy. :D

    16. mdonlineee03, Here's a pic of my Davon here to help you lol.

Sorry i've been away so long. I have very limited internet access these days. Anyway, I wasn't sure if I would like Davon when I saw his blank sculpt but I do now! He's the nephew of my Titus but neither has a name yet. We'll see. I have clear picture of Titus in my head and Davon isn't super clear except that he's trouble.

He's in white skin but the skin texturing turns him pinker.

    17. invie you must use mouse eyelashes to paint those lovely eyebrows!

    18. Fishcake - ...whimpering in a corner clutching wallet...slowing navigating to website...*_*

Invie - that face-up is beautiful. I love the subtle skin texturing you've done.

    19. Fishcake-- Love the story. I'm a big Patrick O'Brian and other nautical adventure fan!

Invie-- Gorgeous faceup!!! Those hair strokes in the eyebrows just astound me (I can't even come close to that).

Rosslyn-- Beautiful outfit on your guy! :D

    20. Thank you! This was my first big and serious real embroidery project in many years, and I unpicked a lot of it to get good results. Most of it is something called Split Stitch.

      Thanks, I made it meself.

Thank you! I should take some better detail shots for you guys.
And you wouldn't be hybriding unless you combine different companies' pieces, you're just... buying in installments :D

Whoa, the detail and yet softness on that faceup is impressive.

      Thanks very much!

    21. The face-up is just gorgeous! ^0^ He looks like a real person!

    22. Invie, that is just beautiful work, as usual. I've seen your work on a certain OT vinyl BJD and really admired it. Lovely job, looks so real...

    23. I just put a Gitana head on lay-a-way. I could not resist the face up was so nice. I'm told by the folks at DS that these dolls are just lovely and very well made in person. I'm really looking forward to her being around. Can anyone tell me if they have used a Miro NS body as yet to body a head from this series of dolls? I'm just curious to see if their NS/SD body would work or if I need to be thinking about something else. Thanks!

    24. Has anyone tried a Granado boy head on a Spirit Doll female body?

    25. April I just got some more of the O'Bryan series ... though I actually like the earlier 1760 era better because it was a bit more like organized piracy and the clothes were fabulous :D
magkelly How tall is Mirodoll's sd body? Gitana is a big head, she really needs something around 65 cm. Fayette looks better IMO on the 60 cm.

    26. Invie: Your Davon looks incredible :o

    27. You guys there needs to be a warning on this thread: Cruise at your own risk! Because by the time you finish reading the comments and drooling at spam the next thing you know; your next stop will be the Granado website and then the waiting room thread...:o

Ugh - I have to stay strong and hold out til June. Something is telling me to wait...it's bad enough I'm even thinking about getting little Terra a sibling or even a twin.

    28. mdonline03 I have to say compared to the other doll companies, Granado is both more affordable and more personable, so if you are going to buy dolls you might as well get these wonderful guys. :D You are being thrifty!

    29. That's so true. You just can't stop to watch their dolls everyday, and want to buy all of them!
But my doll fund is limited... :|

    30. 60cm according to the website. They do make a bigger guy, but not a girl as yet. That do her? Thanks!

    31. Fishcake - OMG....:D stop it!

Wait a minute...I'm beginning to suspect that some of you are getting commission from Granado...hahaha (as I'm staring at Gitana now*_*)

But SOOO true! I mean I really can't believe how well priced they are (all things considered of course) and how diverse their sculpts are. And they "feel expensive". I have a few other boys and a couple are like cotton balls compared to Chaka. Plus all the wonderful personal touches as you said...the personal note from Crocus, the extra heeled feet for a boy doll (say what:fangirl:), the handy dandy instruction manual. I feel really lucky to have one (I guess will be two) of their dolls to be honest. I can't wait to get little Sam home.

    32. I'm close to ordering my first Granado head, but I really need to know if the male head I want will look strange on a female body? Any female body for that matter?

    33. Which head are you looking at? I can try a Davon and V-03 on my girls body if you want.

    34. Derilan, I think that since the head sculpts are quite small compared to most dolls in this size range, they male heads they make should look fine on female bodies. It really depends on the look you're going for. The sculpt tends toward the realistic side so they go better with broad shoulders to avoid a bobble headed look with a realistic sculpt.

Thanks on all the compliments for Davon. I use a 000 size brush for the eyebrows so it is only about 15-20 hairs lol. I think with practice, most ppl can get very fine lines. It's all about muscle control!

    35. I've seen a V-03 head on a nuevo body. It looked a little big to me, but I think it would depend on the look you like.

    36. Which head are you looking to get? I've got Davon, Chaka, and pretty soon will have a charles. also, What size body are you looking to put the head on? I've got soom supergem (65cm), iplehouse nyid, ringdoll, (58) dollzone (62cm), angell-studio 58 and 62, and doll chateau youth and adult body

    37. Well again I am about four pages behind having not checked this thread for a few days.

The face-up done by Invie - stunning. She has just done a face-up body blush for me and I could not be more pleased.

Granado - my very favorite BJD company. Wonderful quality dolls and service like no one else in the bjd community. Yes, their dolls are addictive as is their customer care. :thumbup

    38. Ooooh, such exciting things going on in this thread while I was fretting about my new Sidonia head... XD

fishcake, I just adore that hat and I can't wait to see the captain in all his 18th-century glory! I just love 18th century naval uniforms. *drools*

And, um, I'm also ever so mildly obsessed with medieval costume, so right now I'm jealous of Aidan's garb too, as Rosslyn may have suspected already...

Invie, I am always in awe of your face-ups, but your Davon takes my breath away. So lovely and subtle and lifelike! He's simply amazing. I'm very curious to see him with a wig and all.

After a great deal of worry and a steep customs charge, today I finally wrestled my new Sidonia head from the clutches of the Belgian mail system. I love the face-up - it really has everything I am incapable of doing myself (finely-painted eyebrows, fine lashes, eyeliner and delicate swirling lines), but I am surprised at how different this head looks from what I'm used to with Florie! That was the point, to be sure, but still, surprised. She looks so much more sophisticated :).

    39. :aheartbea Simply gorgeous! The good Captain's attempt to draw attention from that glorious new body of his? Heh. The story gave me a good little chuckle~

      Pfft. Says you. XD

Aiden! It's good to see him around again. ^^

Isn't it just? I find myself getting caught by that train of thought as well - only to realise that I can't stand the thought of having a random head rolling around the place, and put in an order for a body, too! I defeat my own purpose. Geh. Why is it that once you start buying Granado sculpts, you wind up needing them all?

Trouble of the best kind, clearly! <3 You do such great work, as always. Your Davon is stunning~~

I know that feeling, and I love it. I'm so addicted to Granado now that I don't have the time (or inclination) to look at other companies' sculpts. And why would I need to, when Crocus makes a little of everything?

    40. :doh Operative word here is need...And collecting floaters is exactly what I wanted to avoid. I'm gonna put myself in a timeout. :eusa_naug

and Sigune seeing your new Sidonia isn't helping. She's so pretty just sitting in your hand as a floating head.

    41. Hahaha! Yes - neeeeed. It's clearly a matter of life or death here.

    42. Davon head on any kind of female body or any of the guys really. Don't think Charles would have the right kind of look I am going to paint with.

    43. Oh my Goodness! Your Sidonia is so beautiful! Congrats on her safe arrival.:aheartbea
Granado is my favorite BJD company too. They really know how to make me happy, and also, the quality is really good. I love Crocus' sculpt, they are really life-like. I have seen many dolls in person but Crocus' creations are the best for me so far.

Invie, your Davon is so handsome! I love Davon's profile too!:aheartbea

    44. Rosslyn those clothes are so romantic. Makes me think of Robin Hood.
Fishcake do we get more of the story! What a teaser!
Invie, those eyebrows! It's the eyebrows that separate the men from the boys and mine are definitely not men yet and may never be.
I'm too lazy to put in the practice. Impressive to say the least on the face up.

    45. Sigune your Sidonia is beautiful! She looks different from Florie too--it's amazing what chameleons these heads are. Did I tell you how much I like Florie in the modern dress? She looks like she could wear things like Chanel with style and grace.
Lilsgirl I am not sure there is a story...but if there is, it will not be your standard sea adventure, since I own mermaids and such. ;)

    46. Helllooo Granado lovers!

This thread has hit its 1000 post limit, so I'm slapping chains on it ^u^ Please start the next thread with relevant/previous discussion links and a link to the company. I'll pop back here and connect it all up once it's made.
