~ Granado ~ General Discussion part 5!

Jan 9, 2013

1. Yay, fishcake! 'Hope that package just flies over to you! :)

2. Congrats! :chocoheart They ship dolls quite fast this month, it is a good sign.

3. Thank you April and Risou--maybe it is easier to work now that the big holiday season is over! I need to sew asap!:o

4. Thank you so much! that's a big help!!!! :D

Fishcake: That's great! maybe that means they're getting ready to send out the next wave!!! Can't wait to see who makes it home this time around!

5. More shipping notices! :D Yays! I can't wait to see your gorgeous Captain with his real body... Yummies~ I don't suppose this means we'll be treated to another Davon photo shoot in a few days' time? I don't think anyone here would mind the lack of formal wear... :3

Don't suits sit really well on these guys?! My Xavier (on the nuevo body) wears suits, and they look positively hot on him. The suit jacket really flatters his broad shoulders and narrow waist. ^.^
Will your boy be heading out for a face-up soon? I'd love to be able to see how he rocks his suit~ <3

My Mayumi (Takuya sculpt) is not a suit-wearing kind of guy, but he is very much a clothes horse... And he's never one to object to spending time in front of a camera, so it was his turn this week --->

I just ordered him a new body (a senior ari one ^^), since his previous one irritated the heck outta me with it's rather crummy posing abilities. I'm hoping it wont take too long to ship...

6. Mayumi is the first person I have seen wear a mesh shirt and look hot instead of silly in it!
Oh yes, but there will be some sort of pants..the Captain would rather be drawn and quartered than pose in public without pants. Even no shirt is borderline. (On the other hand his lieutenant doesn't care at all, but since Lt. Coppersmith lacks a head right now, it's sort of moot. When Coppersmith has a head, he's quite willing to pour a bucket over himself on deck and roar orders at underlings at the same time... without a stitch on. Partly to fluster poor Captain Davon, who for some reason can't bring up the "You are out of uniform" thing, because that would prove Davon noticed. ;)

And before I forget, look who snuck in while I was waiting for the guys...

Countess Mirabelle; art and antiquities collector, and secretly a Fae with her own agenda.

7. Heh. Mayu likes his mesh, and his leather. He can't be without one or the other, so it's a good thing he knows how to wear them well! XD

Oh, gods... *cough* Is it wrong of me to hope that this particular moment is caught on camera? ;) Coppersmith sounds like a man I'd enjoy having around.
Your new Countess is so very beautiful! Is that the company face-up? She really suits her persona - those eyes of hers look like they hide a myriad of secrets. And that outfit of hers is spectacular (it seriously makes me wish that I had even one girl, so I could dress her similarly ^^ ).

8. Kirika-- Your Mayumi is just stunning! (like all your boys!) Love his style.

Fishcake-- Gorgeous girl! Love that dress.

9. Is she Fayette? Her dress is beautiful and so much detail! :chocoheart

10. Kirika You can always stuff Shiro into more frills; the advantage here is that Fayette's head (and it is a second-hand Fayette, with a slightly chipped company faceup--painted with mouse eyelashes, I think! So tiny and perfect!) anyway, she is on an Angel of Dream body. (There are photos on the blog of her on the Granado body and on the AoD body). This meant that she can wear the old Delf stuff I have, including this DollHeart dress that I got in a trade. She needs more purple things ;) And yes, Coppersmith is much more willing to be photographed, even though it's before photography was invented. :)

April Thank you too! I never would have bought the dress, telling myself I could have made it..as if ;)

Risou, yes it is Fayette! I think she is one of the earliest ones, since her faceup was a little worn. The dress has so many layers--I didn't even put them all on! Dollheart makes wonderful things, but I always end up buying heads instead of clothes. And thank you :)

11. I love your Fayette too. I am a fan of Dollheart and your outfit is so cute. Sometimes I need more than a photo of how the Dollheart outfit is worn..I think I need instructions. I ended up with an extra piece of clothing the other day with no idea where it was to be worn?

12. Jo1961 ROFL!! I usually end up with little decorated strips and then I am ..."does this go on the head? On the arms? What is this?" Then I will stick it on someone else..."here, you need a..belt."

13. I'm catching up here! Loving all the photos.

fishcake, your Countess is lovely!

mdonline, Chaka looks great in sunshine. Can't wait to see him with a faceup.

peacelovedreamer, re: the blushing, you could try sueding the chest joint with actual suede or pliver. That will protect the blushing a bit.

And last but not least, Mayumi :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

14. fishcake, I am guessing that the Countess isn't as innocent as you would think by looking at her sweet little face? :D Fayette is so, so adorable - one of my favourite Granado sculpts.

15. Sigune no, she's not innocent and she is a lot older than she looks... and she likes having her own way. She is the sort of person that if you bid against her at an auction, you would suddenly grow hooves and horns. (This explains Antoine, my Soom Benmore were-deer) ;)

Alewife, thank you, though you are another of my Granado enablers. ;)

16. It's all in a good cause!

I missed the bit about the bucket earlier. :blush Is Coppersmith maybe modeled after Capt. Hornblower? Possibly the Gregory Peck version?

17. kirika - Nice to see Mayumi, I keep scrolling back to him, love his face expression.

fishcake - She's lovely, that dress and hair are really nice, good choice!

Well, I guess, since my Charles is here I should join and spam something, but I didn't have too much time to do more photos than arrival ones, so just one without box:

18. jeebus, that body is so beautiful :drool he looks great, Hamleta!

19. Hamleta, what a wonderful photo! (I love seeing Charles' head at that angle too--it's such a great sculpt!)
Alewife, Coppersmith is a sort of morphed version of Alfie Donwell in "False Colors"...I started out thinking I would just do fan-type dolls of John and Alfie, but then they grew their own distinct personalities. ;) I like Hornblower, the A and E version with Ioan Gruffudd especially.

Unfortunately for authenticity I have too many fantasy dolls, so a lot of the Royal Navy will be...very strange. Once I get the ship's surgeon into uniform you will see. ;)

20. Hamleta, he looks lovely!

fishcake, sort of an alternate universe Royal Navy? I can't wait to see. (And yes, Ioan Gruffudd is yummy.)

Well, I took the plunge. I'm getting a chocolate Sidonia for the event.

21. Squee! I have to go look on the Granado website and see if they have a sample, that sounds gorgeous! (Strangely tasty, too) ;)

22. Granado chocolate resin is a perfect Hershey-bar color. :)

23. I've been away for a bit but you all had me in tears just catching up and digesting my recommended dose of the nutritional super-food called Granado brand spam. While I did find an artist for my boy and have a confirmed slot - I'm just waiting to hear back on where to send him...lol. :lol:But I am so anxious to get him to his next phase.

Alewife - A chocolate Sidonia, now that I want to see and in fact was sort of thinking the same thing for her but I'm not a VIP...:...( I do think that dark brown is quite rich looking and would love to see Granado do another chocolate doll. And I'll tell my Martine a.k.a Doc that he got another thumbs up! Thanks.

Hamleta
- oh do like that nuevo body and angle on your boy. :aheartbea For such a strong sculpt it kind of demands it...it will be interesting to see what he looks like if/when you have him redone for comparison.

Fishcake - The Countess does look like she has a second agenda. I really love the quietness about her and yet at the same time she looks like you wouldn't want to turn your back on her for very long. Love that eye colour too. And I couldn't help laughing while trying to visualize a royal navy made up of fantasy types...

Kirika - Mayumi is quite hypnotic...why do I get the sense that he could probably convince anyone to do just about anything he wanted...

Meanwhile back at the ranch here's Doc patiently waiting while I strip the suit off of his rival Mika. Official "suit" shot to follow. Lol. Below he is in a Sadol shirt & pants from Tata's. The pants are a slim SD17 and hug him "properly."

24. Soooo I finally got in my NS Soom Chalco Legs, dyed them, tried them on Adonis with the Soom thighs (not much luck) and then tried again with the Granado thighs and everything below that from Soom. Considering dyeing is quite the art, they are DEFINITELY not a color match, but I am going to be blushing and such soon. I also fixed up his blushing scratch and sueded him up. The sueding on the chest is REALLY helping him to not scratch.

So he stands a lot better than I had expected on unmodified legs. I may or may not modify the legs because sitting looks atrotious. Either that or I might build up on the Soom thighs with epoxy to fit the hips better.

All in all, I am super satisfied. I can't wait to get around to blushing him

25. PeaceLoveDreamer - Wow...I can't wait to see the finished concept. I'm barely just putting in eyes, so I can just imagine all the work going into this guy. Did you dye the legs using Rit or was it some other method?

26. Mayu is such a clothes horse that it's become rather standard for him to look amazing in just about everything he happens to throw on. X3 Thanks!

*pffffffft* Dude, it's been more than a passing thought on my end - especially since I know Shiro could pull it off, more or less. Every time I think that way though, I swear Shiro shrinks into himself a little more!

And I'd love to see more of your girl - actually, I'd love to see more of your whole Granado crew. You'll definitely have to spoil us with a group photos of them once you've got them all together! Their style is something I never see amongst my own boys, so I enjoy seeing it with others~ Coppersmith is, of course, free to come sans any such troublesome wear though. :drool

Note to self: Shopping endeavors with Mirabelle are likely to be bad for one's health... =_="

Heheheh.... My sentiments, exactly!

I agree - the Takuya sculpt has such a beautiful expression. It's such a pity that his mold is broken, so we wont get the chance to see more of him around... But wow, your Charles is quite the stunner, himself! I'm such a fangirl for all those glorious angles to his face~ <3

Kya! This will be something to see. I never even imagined Sidonia in such a dark tone - have you ordered her with a company face-up? I wonder how they'd change it uyp from her usual make up option... Congrats, Alewife!

Well, he certainly has me wrapped around his arrogant little finger, if nothing else! I can't say 'no' to Mayu - it's why he winds up with so many outfits.
It's great to hear that your boy will get his face up soon - although he manages to remain quite handsome even without it! That wig of his is so perfect for him. :aheartbea Heh. Lookin' forward to his 'official' suit shot. These guys look like models in tailored-wear. XD

You managed to stop the chipping then? That's great, since it would be such a shame for any more damage to come to that fantastic blushing job you gave him. I love those hooves on him... They suit the thick musculature of the nuevo body really well (much better than they do the thinner Soom body, in my opinion). Your Adonis looks like he just stepped out of a medieval fantasy novel - he's really coming together nicely. So darned gorgeous, and much more primal than my own suit-wearing Xavier. I love seeing the difference!

27. Ugh, I am experiencing some serious temptation over browsing all the marvelous resin testosterone on this thread. x3 I've been entertaining this idea of Charles in the asura resin color... Though I seriously need to wait a few releases to see if there's going to be an even better sculpt coming down the line for the character I have in mind.
A Sidonia in chocolate resin? Sounds like a brilliant idea, Alewife. ^^ I am always in support for the gorgeous tan colors~ (the darker the better!)

28. Peacelovedreamer, I am so impressed with what you have done. It all really works and I think he might fit in very well with Fish’s Royal Navy. ;)

I really want to try modifying a doll..does anyone know if there is a tutorial on You tube for beginners... when “only" thinking of modifying a doll? Yesterday, I was looking thru a thread where one of the girls took her 60cm fellow (now too small for her group) and lengthened his legs so his finished size was 63.5cm. Simply amazing to me. I also want to learn some facial modifications. I probably need to hunt up the modifications threads on DoA.

29. I love his pants! Thank you for let me know it's came from Tata's! ^.^ Your doll is awesome!

this project is very exciting! :o great job!

30. mdonline03 Martine has this "Yes, I am the favorite" expression there..he looks fantastic in tailored clothes, so I can soon see a little line of suits in his future. :D
PeaceLoveDreamer Adonis looks fantastic!! And now I am ooo...I have chalco hooves here, maybe I should test-fit them on the Granado knees, just for science, you know? ;)
Jo1961 Mods--I admit I will do additive mods that can be picked off again, but the resin dust is so toxic and hard to dispose of cleanly I hate to cut into the dolls. Also I swear if you just show a doll a piece of sandpaper it takes 25.00 off the resale value; I've skipped a couple of otherwise great sales on the MP because the sculpt was "improved" with sanding. That said, if you can find a couple of Angel of Dream heads to practice on, they can actually benefit from modding, and you won't lose a big investment. Just read the modding threads so you know what other people have tried!

31. You can cut down on the dust by keeping whatever you are sanding wet. And make sure to wear a proper mask and gloves. I have done light modding on two of my dolls (eye openings) and it's really easy to do. Just go slow. I have not done any additive mods yet, but I plan to eventually.

32. Yay! I'm so glad you fixed the chipping blushing problem, PLD! (yes, you have a nickname now. You haz a longg name)

Uff I dun wanna go to school today, I wanna go back to my studio and play dollies.

33. But you'll be a VIP next year. You can plan ahead! :)
I love Doc's lounging-model pose.

He looks amazing. I can't wait to see what else you do with him!

Thanks! I ordered her blank. I always want to do the faceups... which explains why I have so many faceless dolls... :(

34. Thanks everyone for the kind words about Adonis. I am so proud of him so far, I can't wait to finish him up. He is HUGE now though.... he stands at almost 80cm. But kirika, I agree, the legs look so much better on him than they do on Super Gem bodies. Also, all it took was some light hot glue sueding on the joint and giving the torso extra time to dry and it worked out well. I am still really careful, though lol.

Jo: When it came to modding for me, it took a lot of guts and a practice head. Honestly, I've done modification that has completely ruined everything, and then after a small breakdown, you sorta realize that if it can come off, it can be built back on again. My tools tend to be a dremel and Epoxy. If I were do mod the Soom thighs, I would add epoxy to match the shape of the Granado thighs. The hardest part of epoxy is color matching, but it really does work wonders. But I would always suggest to try with extra parts first. It also really depends on how you are with crafty things. My friend is awesome at dremeling but epoxy scares the shit out of her cuz she isn't good with clay lol. Luckily, though I suck with clay, too, epoxy can be dremeled, so if you put too much on, it can be reshaped. I am also sorta fearless. Once I realized that dolls are not even close to as delicate as I though they were, I sorta got rough lol. I also have experience working with resin, so maybe its also my understanding of resin itself. I wish I could make a tutorial or something, but every mod job is SO different. Good luck on your journey with trying.

Rossyln: PLD is actually a decently common nickname for me. It really started on another forum, but I am so used to it already I know when I am being spoken to lol. So feel free to use it. I know my username is a mouthful lol.

35. PLD :D Being fearless really has great results--Adonis really is "your" work of art now; he's a unique expression of your vision--I love how everything works together!

36. I'm with you on that one! I :aheartbea tan dolls! The chocolate skin really is so beautiful. I can't get enough of my Chaka.

37. Alewife you ordered a Sidonia in Chocolate skin? :o
Congrats! That's really a great plan to order her in chocolate. I can't wait to see your yummy Sidonia! :chocoheart

38. Jo, so delighted you're thinking about getting into Modding! :)
My best advice is to start by reading pretty much everything in the Customizing Index Sticky in our Workshop section. 80% of all modding questions asked in the Workshop have already been answered there. Almost all modding mistakes are caused by the person being in too much of a hurry to learn what they are doing and how to do it right.

Also, learn about Respiratory Protection if you didn't already know about it. Silicosis and mesothelioma are horrible ways to die. Sorry if that sounds overdramatic, but it's true. Resin, like electricity and fire and knives and so many other things we use all the time, is a great thing but can be extremely dangerous without a few simple precautions.

39. More of Davey, still waiting for Hunter's arrival

40. Thank you Rosslyn for the links and for the resin warning. My SO is a model railroader and has built a fume hood and has masks. I sanded down a neck on one of my dolls and Rob made me go outside, put on a mask to do that. He really has helped me with lots of things with my dolls, which is kind of him since I don’t think he is really interested in dolls. ;)
I on the other hand purchase little items for his railroad layout and hide them on his layout for him to find.

41. Anchix Davey is so cute--I hope he doesn't have to wait too long!

Jo1961
:aheartbea Aww!

42. hmmmmm still no surprising great news from Granado. Are they too low profile in this month?
I have been waiting so long for their new dolls but they just keep treating us on Facebook. I'm trying to keep patient but I just can't! *_*

Thanks for your guys pictures! AnchixDPx, PeaceLoveDreamer, mdonline03, hamleta, fishcake and kirika! :aheartbea

43. I keep seeing the teases as well. It's driving me nuts.

I may have some new pictures tonight, but it will depend on how tired I am after I get home from swim aerobics after work.

44. Hehehehe.... Made me laugh more than I probably should have...

A lonesome Davey still manages to be the most delicious eye-candy~ I do wanna see his whole band together soon though! Hope it's not too long until you get your notice.

I always figured they wouldn't release him until after the anni event was over and done with... I've rather enjoyed their teasers in the meantime. ^.^ Something else I've also really liked lately is the prototype heads of Crocus' past releases they've been showing - it's fun to see how these gorgeous sculpts of his first started out!

45. I wanna see Terra now, why must it be on my weekend off? I can't wait to see the body too!

46. Hey all, I just started the discussion thread for the minis since Terra is about to come out. Find it here!!!

47. My second Davon arrived yesterday evening (hurrays! :D ), so I spent today pulling him together. Ryu's twin looks -nothing- like him. He's gone full-on punk/goth with his spidery, broken lashes and thick lipstick. XD

The wig he's wearing here is going to be ditched in favour of a black and red fur wig from S&M, once it arrives. In the meantime he's going to have to make do with the emo-fringe of this wig. And while I've lost the light for today, I want to pull Kazushi (this guy) and his bro Ryu together for a photo shoot soon. They make me giggle, seeing them side by side~

48. Wow, this new boy is very promising, especially if it's Xavier's little brother *O*

49. kirika...wow..just wow!!!

50. kirika - Me likes....Oh I can wait to see the two brothers together. I love contrasts!

51. Congrats for the new doll release kirika.
Oh wow quick face-up! your new Davon is so sexy! :chocoheart

52. Jade thinks we need more attitude in here...
100_0954 by Lucky XIII, on Flickr

p.s found some pants I had that I could get on her. And apparently JID boy shoes fit...

53. Oh yes, and that is such a great photo!!

54. oh wow, jade sure is lookin good there!

55. :aheartbea I was so glad to finally get the chance to try out a darker style on this sculpt. He really is so amazingly versatile!
Thanks!

Thank you! Expanding on my Granado Crew Collection always makes for a celebration in this house. :XD: And face-upping this Davon turned out to be a heck of a lot easier than giving my first Davon his face-up - Ryu refused to cooperate from minute one!

Good thing Jade has attitude to spare then, huh? :nosebleed Damn, but that girl knows how to play the siren... Yum!

Heheh... So do I! And these guys pull it off so well together~

Kazu had an abrupt about-face with his wig-of-choice. Apparently he just didn't stand out enough in the red wig... XD

56. That red/black/white color scheme is so awesome...he's like the Wild Goth Fae version of Davon!
(btw Granado is so nice--my body was shipped out on the 12th and I was all :( that the tracking died. But Granado patted me on the head, told me it would be ok, and yes! It's in San Francisco in customs, the tracking just updated today. I think it's because Granado asked about it. :D So my Captain will get his extra inches ..and clothes...pretty soon!)

57. kirika-- aaagh! LOVE your boys' style so much!!! LOVE the latest--faceup on your Davon is just to die for! :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

... you make me want to buy more dolls... and have you paint them!!! :XD:

58. Wah~ Thank you, april! That wonderful compliment is going to keep me red for the next hour...
And I just knew that Davon would make a gorgeous punk - even though my first Davon wouldn't even consider it. Now I get the best of both worlds with this sculpt!

Oh, gosh... My heart always stops on the odd occasions when tracking has died for me, too. And having EMS take over a week to arrive on top of it would about have me in tears. I glad you've got it sorted though (Granado's amazing customer service has always made me happy to be their customer ^^ ) and can't wait until you get your Capt. Davon up and strutting about on his new, mile-long legs~ XD

And I'm giving the white wig a thumbs-up as well - it really makes his make-up pop and gives him a more exotic air. All good things. :3

59. Thanks for the eyes candy! ^0^
They are so hot!
