Granado Doll Discussion Part 8

Feb 4, 2014

1. Lachlana he's HERE!! (jumps up and down) the wig isn't here yet--I got a blck mohair one with blonde tips, it will be interesting to see how it works..might look like he dipped the tips in some potion he was working on. :) I would take pix immediately but I have a 20 foot garbage rollaway I have to fill with carpet and old ceiling tile this afternoon, meh. But I will take pix tomorrow if the wig shows up! :aheartbea

2. Lachlana and fishcake, he is awesome!

And BlitheFool, congrats on incoming Chaka. :)

3. Haha! Now my V-06 head photos look so blah! XD Nice job on Teodor! He has just enough worry and frown lines to make him look middle-aged.

Well, my V-06 heads came in today! ^_^
(I'm really miffed with my mail carrier today. I knew they were incoming and waited all day. She came (an hour later than usual), stopped by the box, then left without putting anything in! I looked up the tracking number again, and they'd left the heads at the post office, "available for pick up"! Rar. I'd already been there twice this morning picking up another box, looking for another that was supposedly "delivered" on Friday, and getting a quote on an outgoing box! The office is dinky. They know me. ~.~)

Anyway! Here's the white resin boy on my LumeDoll Usil's body in Normal Yellow:

A few more photos in my Flikr. (link in sig)

Both heads are kind of nubby on the face, but the usual baby-smooth everywhere else. O_o A few small scratches on the white face, but hopefully those won't show with a faceup. I've gone over them lightly with a Magic Eraser and the pebbly-ness is less pronounced.

I must say, this new Tan is verrrrry nice! I suspect it's what I will get any other boys from them in. ^_^

4. @Lachlana: Wow. Good job. I really love the contrasts between hair-skin-eyes here. And the face-up certainly is impressive too.
@fishcake: Congrats <3 He's a very manly man :D

@aernath: Congrats on your boys <3 Already commented about Mr. Tan over in the waiting room, but Mr. White here definitly looks awesome too! *eyeing that shirt as well* It suits him. Lovely white-blue-black themes <3 (may I ask where that shirt is from? >3<)

5. I want to know Teodors story! He has tales to tell…he's such a full character…love him. I want to do more with my dolls and create more vibrate characters…all my dolls are all soft and squishy (as much as I love them so) but I am always so impressed by strong face-ups. Maybe I'll just get a wild hair and have them all re-painted…:o Doc may be on the dollie spa list….

And I am in full on V0-1 regret mode. I wanted that darn sculpt for so long and then passed on him…can't remember why. He looks good in tan and white. Waiting for the deliciousness to ensue….

6. I've done it! I placed an order for one lucky doll! I'm so excited, 50 working days be darned!

7. aernath, gorgeous guy. He looks good on that body.

Buckybear, congratulations!

8. Congrats! Your V-06 looks so beautiful even in blank. Also the resin color seems matches great!

Lachlana, fishcake's Teodor is painted so well :daisy I love him!!

Buckybear Congrats! what did you buy? :daisy

9. I almost want to keep him a secret because I'm so excited!! ^^ I hope their quoted 50 days doesn't turn into 100....

but. I know I ordered the male Nuevo body and now I'm trying to find out where I'm going to able to find clothes that'll fit him...

10. @Buckybear: ;P In a sewing machine XD Just kidding. I've seen some tipps here and there from owners :3 But don't remember any of them cause I have the other body. And in my case... Clothes DO come out from the sewing machine.

Speaking of sewing machines... MY NEW BABY IS HERE!!!! *0* I finally have a new sewing machine - and it's a brother! It's so smooth-purring-sounding and makes perfect stitches! I always had the problem that no matter how I tuned it, the lower thread was never as tight as the top one - or it would rip (because of too much tension - and there was no in between adjustment). Now you can't tell top from bottom and... >3< I luv it! Only did one quick try yesterday, but this weekend... *0* *hyper*

Also, Granado is totally messing with me.
I dreamed I got a Granado box, even thought I currently hadn't ordered anything. It was a... FABIO!!! >< I guess my 'I'm skipping out on this one' is already happily bitting me in the a...
BUT! That wasn't all. There was a girl body in there as well. And three heads with face-up from the discontinued molds AND a blank head. None of which I recognized. But the blank head looked a lot like the girl I currently want/need/am saving up for (Iple Olivia).
And I was all like 'O.o WTF?! I didn't order ANY of these' and while tempted to keep them, even in my dream I imagined the poor lad who probably is expecting the huge package and doesn't get anything and... wrote Granado. End of dream. But they are totally messing with me. Even in my dreams now! *pouts*

... Or maybe it's a sign that soon there will be a girl, working better than the one I currently love? Better keep the money tight.

11. Snowy ughhhh I figured as much ; ; But I was really hoping to dress him better than a guy in rags lol.

Whoa! Congrats on the new sewing machine though! I know that having a machine improved my sewing as compared to hand sewing everything....

12. aernath- your V boys are wonderful! That Lumedoll body works really well for match and fit too!
Bucky- congrats on the body! That's awesome!
Snowy- ooh! New sewing machine! Very cool. I'm not gifted in the sewing department but I appreciate the work of folks who are.

If any Chaka owners wanna spam pics while I pass the time waiting for mine, I can't say I'd mind :D

13. The Nuevo boy body isn't too bad. Volks SD17 pants fit, and stretchy tops will fit. Regular will be too tight across the back and shoulders. So look for SD17 tops that are made of stretchy material or made to fit loosely. ^_^ Pants are really the biggest problem, but it's the same with all the boys (except Lads I'm thinking - he doesn't seem to have the thunder calves the other boys do). You need the pantleg width of the SD17, but the waist of the 70cm pants. SD17 pants tend to be too big in the waist. But the 70cm pants are a bit long, and snug around those calves.

Did someone ask for spam? ;) Here's that shirt I finally used my sewing machine to make! ^____^
What do you sewers DO with all the flipping loose threads?? Do you reinforce the end of every line of stitching and then cut short, or go back with a hand needle and thread the loose ones and tuck them inside? O_o Too much work!

[IMG]Darius - Granado Chaka by aernath, on Flickr

And it looks like the birds and squirrels have planted some more sunflowers for us this year! lol If they all survive, it looks like we might get more than one!

14. Heck yeah! That's a really nice shirt. Your Darius looks good in bright colours.

I just got news that my Fabio head shipped! :O

15. I'll snap some photos whenever he arrives. Next week, I'd imagine due to the American holiday and all that. I actually got him with a faceup so he'll be picture ready when he arrives!

16. Aernath as always thanks for the help ; ; I figured he would be causing me trouble but I already have a DC Erwin so I guess I just like impossible to dress boys lol. The tops I'm not so worried about because I can manage that. It of course is good looking pants that I'm gonna be searching for.

17. Ah! Aernath that head looks really nice! How did I miss this guy? Maybe it was the face-up but I didn't realize just how gorgeous he was. Now I'm wishing I bought one.

Sewing. Loose threads. Gah. I'm a cheater. I use wee little dabs of fabric glue and that no-fray stuff. I lock it all down, man. Lock it down!

18. Snowy, your dream made me laugh. Wouldn't that be nice! Also, congrats on the new sewing machine!

aernath, love the shirt and the guy wearing it. :aheartbea

And, incoming Fabio! Yay! :dance

19. Oooo, an Erwin! I eyeballed him for quite some time. I ended up going for Mephisto though, when he came along. You'll actually have some crossover in clothes then. My Mephisto can wear SD17 jeans too. They're a tiny bit short, but not bad if you get shoes that are taller than ankle height. Boots are always good for hiding short jeans. ;) Actually, Erwin doesn't have that extra ankle bit, does he? So he should be good in SD17 pants. As will your Nuevo boy.

Snowy, I forgot to say I made that shirt on the Usil's body. :sweat I have one shirt design (Aloha shirt), and just resize it for all my boys. lol I just tweak it a little here and there wherever needed. I've been telling myself for years that I need to learn to make real pants, but have yet to do anything more than elastic waisted or drawstring ones. :^P

Fabric glue, eh? The last (and first) tube I had of that, rejected the lid while it was being stored, and glued itself up. XD But that sounds so much quicker and easier, I'll just have to get another tube and give it a go! Thanks!
And thanks! I often get distracted by a company's faceup too, and have often missed out on some really good sculpts. I try to remember and scrutinize the blank head shots if they have them, and study the profile if they don't.

Thanks, Alewife! I tried hard to hide all the loose threads. :sweat

20. I sew back and forth a few stitches at the beginning and the end of the seem and then cut the ends of the thread off. No extra effort involved and it really works :)

21. I'lm glad to hear that they can share some bottoms! Honestly, I -was- going to get Cyril but somehow ended up with Erwin haha. He doesn't have the extra joints so that does make it a little easier... I can't wait to compare their bodies! Are they terribly different in person? Lol like an odd couple?

22. Well, until I can get you a proper photo, in this comparison shot, Mephisto is second from the right (with the huge honkin' horns), and my Nuevo-bodied V-01 is next to him on the far right.
https://flic.kr/p/nzeL4c
Doll Chateau bodies are different from about anything else out there. But you already know that. ;)

batchculture - I wondered about that. I keep having problems at the start though. There isn't enough fabric for the dog feet to pull the fabric through, and I can't seem to pull from whatever angle it needs me to, for the fabric to not bunch up when I try to go forwards again after doing a few first stitches and going back to the start. Maybe I just need more practice. I'm able to do it at the end of stitching a line...
I need a sewing machine whisperer.

23. Ahaha! Oh no! It's going to look like I'm severely underfeeding one of them. But that actually works well with the personalities I want them to have, so I suppose this all worked out rather well for me. Gosh, I still can't get over how gorgeous Granados are <3

24. How do doll clothes makers do it? I have that trouble with my machine (getting the tiny corners through the feed). My machine just doesnt' seem to tolerate little things. I can sew my clothes just fine. Doll clothes get eaten. That's why I stitch down the big pieces and glue down the small stuff. And Fray Check. Oh man that stuff works wonders. Not that I've sewn anything since the move or having the baby.

I say this cause I've been wanting/needing to get Jim something other than onesies and baby clothes. Actually, HIS stuff might actually not give me trouble in the feed.

Lastly, on FB did you see the Nico pics posted? We need some more Nico spam here. <3

25. We DO! It's nice to see Jim when we can! ^__^

You know, I keep catching myself calling my Nico head "Jim"... and I keep trying to come up with a different name, but have yet to land something that sticks. I think I'm waiting for a body and clothes, to get a better feel for who he is.
Darned titan body is so expensive, it's going to be a while.

26. Yes, Nico is now Jim at my house too :D
Snowy congratulations on the new wonderful sewing machine! It makes such a difference! I am still waiting on this wig for Teodor and meanwhile taking up old dead carpet in the basement. They glued it to the tile underneath and the tile is glued to the concrete, so I have been pretty tired at the end of the day from scraping. After the holiday I should be able to do some sewing again, though.

27. Saweeeeeeeet! Well, now I know my next Granado purchase!

28. HAHAHAHA... that's too funny! It's the Jim head. LOL

I am going to buy Jaden I am QUITE sure. <3 With the new lean body, too! Eeeeeeee....

29. I'm hoping Jaden will be the one for me…been holding out for just the right mature Asian head and so far Souldoll's new boy has dibs on my wallet. I don't like Souldolls body hence…..come on Jaden….show us the magic.
'

30. He is a really beautiful head so far! I am still kinda bummed over loving Fabio so much, but I really just shouldn't get him with all my other plans going on. mdonline03, wait for this boy to come out, but if you do go for the Souldoll, make sure you do the old body…the new one is just purely not good (especially in comparison to what Granado offers >,<).

31. Today I got my Maiden body, and it's gorgeous! I love it!

I have just one question to those who already own it: is it me or his body have some trouble to sit down properly? I mean, the legs of my body can't stay "straight" if put them in a horizontal position and they tend to stay awkwardly open if I try to bend them. The result is not very nice or elegant haha! This is happening only to me?

Also, if anyone is interested I have to say that Granado new NS match very well with Elfdoll NS and Supia NS ^^
(here's the photo reference with the Supia resin)

32. Does anyone happen to have a LLT Roderich head that they could put on the Nuevo body, or have seen it? I've skimmed the photo request thread and have searched through this thread but I haven't found much. I'm strongly considering this body but I'm nervous about hybridizing it.

Thanks in advance!

33. One machine insisted on doing that to me too. I got around it by starting the seem about half an inch in and went backwards to where I wanted the seem to start, and then forward. I sew only twice across the start of the seem but it worked just as well.
I really like your shirts. My boys told me that they are tired of t-shirts and sweaters. They'd like some shirts for the next summer season. Did you make the pattern yourself?

Oh - how nice! I can't wait to see him painted :daisy

34. This makes my day since I just decided I would like to hybrid my ElfDoll and my supia with granado!! Although my supia is white skin...
