Hi, I am taking on a pretty large commission as a part of a trade, and the person wants several corsets for their BJD dolls. I'm not sure what would be a good sewing pattern to use though. Does anyone here have any suggestions? If I can't find a pattern I may just end up making my own. Ty!
Since corsets tend to fit the body very closely, when it comes to dolls you're probably going to need a specific pattern for each body, and to make a corset specific to each of those bodies. Unlike human bodies, dolls aren't squishy, so the corset has to be shaped to them instead of the human tactic of shaping the body to the corset. If you can't find premade patterns specific to the dolls you're making them for, and don't have them available to make the patterns, your best bet is likely to get a duct tape form from the owner (or someone else who owns the same bodies) that you can cut apart to build the patterns for your corsets.
You'll want the same thing there (though usually masking tape is used to make doll-scale duct tape forms, I'm a little under the weather and forgot to note that ); male BJD bodies are all distinct, too, and just like with female bodies, you'll want to make the corset to match, or it won't fit right.
Raoken is a popular seamstress who has kindly offered her own pattern for everyone to personally use! However, it is specifically for Minifee's~ Sewing your own Minifee BJD Corset | Craftsy
I'll have to get a Craftsy membership. Is there a lot on there for Minifee's and BJD's in general (trying to decide if the cost is worth for a full membership.
Raouken's corset pattern is free to use but not to sell from it. I asked her once, she said she was only ok if it was to sell one or two corsets but not to do a full trade out of it. Because it's her livelihood. But they are well made, so you can trust that.
