Repair Glue for reattaching head plate and magnets?

Jun 13, 2025

    1. I have a very old Volks F-12, from 2002, and her headplate had fallen out when I got her (it’s been nested in her head). It seems like she never had magnets installed in her head either, this doll was usually sold in a kit.

      I’d like to fix these things in her but am unsure what kind of glue would be safe to use on resin. I know Elmer’s and hot glue is safe, but neither would be strong enough for these purposes.

      I have some plastic glue (from Citadel) which I think would be safe, but not sure if that would be suitable for bonding metal to plastic.

      Any help or advice is appreciated, thank you!

    2. For my dolls I just use E6000 and it works perfectly

    3. I have used Loctite superglue to reattach magnets and it worked perfectly. I would suggest not to use plastic cement (I don't know what Citadel glue is, but I assume it's the same stuff as the Tamiya cement for model kits). The Tamiya cement works by melting and fusing two plastic bits together, while superglue creates a layer between the parts. I am not really sure if plastic cement, if it's the same stuff, would work on different materials since it doesn't even seem to work on all types of plastic to begin with. Hot glue should be fine but it might not hold too well.
      Remember to get the polarity right! Neodymium magnets' chromed plating can come off if you pull them out when they're glued, and once the plating comes off they will rust immediately.

    4. Super glue is what's usually used for this, you can get the gel kind if you feel like the liquid stuff won't do it. Since it's just the headplate that won't be pulled around like magnets, it's also likely fine with hot glue though.

    5. Thanks for all the quick and helpful responses :D

      Looks like the local Michael’s has it in stock, will see if I can get out there today or soon to get it :)

      @lutke
      That was what I was wondering about the Citadel glue, that it’s meant for fusing plastic parts instead of bonding metal to plastic. I am pretty sure it’s similar to what’s intended for model kits. Definitely will not be using that then!

      I have another doll where the plating came off the magnets, it was very recent so I should replace those too before they rust. Thank you for bringing that up, that that will happen.

      Thank you! I’m not sure what kind of glue was used before for the headplate, but I’ll use something stronger than that. Any of my dolls that had sueding, it’s all flaked off. I would be devastated to lose a headplate so I wouldn’t risk using hot glue for that, even if it’s workable.
