Getting that certain 'glow'?

Jul 25, 2005

    1. I've noticed some people have a certain 'glow' in their photos, kind of a fuzziness that makes their dolls look almost angelic or other-worldly and beautiful. I was wondering how one gets that certain 'glow'? ):

      Please help. Thank you T_T

    2. You can get that effect on Photoshop by opening your picture, making a copy of it on a new layer, turning the copy into 'hard light' through your layer options, and then gaussian blurring it to about 1.5 pixels.

    3. It is pretty!

There are ways to achieve that look with the camera/light alone. Double exposure, backlighting etc. An hour before sunset is a good time for that soft warm glow.

As Magnavox said though, you can also create the effect in most any photo editor. (My fav is PSP.) If you're not familiar with working with layers, there are lots of good tutorials, or feel free to ask someone here! (Including myself.)

    4. Lol I never replied to this but I just tried what Magnavox suggested and it worked. Thanks a lot Magna! ^^ And you too frzndaqiri. :3 Great ideas. <333

    5. You can also set the layer mode of the blurred layer to Overlay or Screen, depending on the colors/shades used in the shoot :)

    6. Try a diffuse glow in photoshoppe, too. It's under filters, distort, and then diffuse glow...you can fade or change the properties depending on the grain/glow you want. Personally, my favourite effect. ^^

    7. Does anyone know how to achieve this in Paintshop Pro, rather than Photoshop?

    8. PSP - Make a new layer, Gaussian blur, and make the layer either Darken, Lighten, Screen, overlay --- whatever suits the pic. Then tweak with transperancy untill it looks good to you.

    9. *worships you all* I just tried the PS trick, and it made even my craptacular pic look better. I'll have to troll this part of the site more often :) thank you!!! :)

    10. So how about some helpful advice for those of us that don't have any computer art programs?

      :|

      *feels left out*

      I need photoshop SO bad...*whimpers* :(

    11. I couldn't get this to work. ;_;

    12. Try duplicating the original layer two times, then set the uppermost layer to "Soft light" and the one below that to "Screen" (play around with the transparency if it ends up looking too overexposed).

    13. A really easy and cheap way to do it is to download Picassa for free. they have some really great editing tools for basic pictures. I will try and get some of mine up so you can see. If you go to google they should have a link to download it.
      ^_^

    14. This tool has become my new best friend xD

    15. This effect is beautiful! Thank you for sharing the tip!

    16. I use a filter. It looks like gauzy black screen and I put it in front of the camera lens and *bing!* a photo that has that "glow."
