I needed to have dolls of my favorite characters, Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe from the danmei Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System. So about a month ago I bought Ringdoll Kim and Cheshire Cat for them, respectively. Kim, being in stock, will be here first. So I get to make his outfit, wig and accessories! Hopefully before he gets here. And a sword mound/memorial for him to wait by until Binghe returns from the Endless Abyss (aka Cheshire Cat’s 6 month pre-order waiting period) Here’s roughly what I’ll be aiming for Spoiler: Character design of both of them Shen Qingqiu is the one in green, Luo Binghe is in black and red. What I need to make: “Underwear” - loose pants and hip-length side tied shirt in white. Inner and outer robes with long flowing sleeves and matching belts. Wig with half top-knot and bangs. Very fancy guan (silver accessory around his topknot) and pins with ribbon. Boots Sword Fan Memorial for Binghe (his disciple sword plus memorial tablet? The book never actually describes it) Some things, like the boots, might have to wait until he gets here so I get the fit right. But most of his clothes are loose enough I should be able to go off of the measurements ringdoll gives, right? (Famous last words) I’ll post updates here as I make things. First up is pattern drafting!
I love Scumbag System, so this will be exciting to see! I really like that pairing and both characters have great designs... i like the dolls you picked for both...good luck!
Very excited to see what you come up with! I just drafted a bunch of hanfu-style patterns for a project too. Watching behind the scenes footage from different period c-drama shows helped a lot with pattern design for me, as well as finding costuming break downs and such (like the Untamed official art book) . There’s also some really nice hanfu pattern diagrams just floating around on the web too. I’m really looking forward to seeing your dolls come together!
So excited to watch your progress with this! You're really making their whole looks! I think Kim and Cheshire will be good sculpts for the two of them. I'm curious how you're gonna make their guans, too, since I've also debated the best method to make those.
Finally made the pattern for his clothes and am working on his nightclothes/underwear. I used this book and just used his measurements and anytime they used a number instead of a ratio I divided it by 3. Hanfu Pattern Pieces by Crystal Aeluro, on Flickr I cut out the paper pattern without seam allowance and then chalk that onto the fabric so I will know exactly where to sew. Then just cut out the fabric with plenty of seam allowance that I’ll cut back once things are sewn together. Too tired to sew things tonight but it’s a start!
And thank you all for your kind words and encouragement! I’m so glad there are other SVSSS fans on here to get hyped for my overly ambitious project Keeps me motivated!
