Dear all, I have been making resin eyes for some time now, and usually I default to using plastic gems as the pupils. Sometimes I sculpt the pupil, but I notice when the eyes are rotated they are not perfectly centered. Therefore, I'd be interested to know how you all get your pupils smack-bang in the middle of your sculpted irises, as this is something I still can't quite figure out and can't get right every time. Thanks for your tips and tricks in advance
Honestly, I suggest getting molds with the pupil integrated- that's what I've been using and it works pretty well for me. Alternatively, maybe you can use some measuring tape (like the kind you can easily wrap around stuff) to mark out where you wanna carve? At least in theory, ou should be able to measure the center and some points with equal distance around it.
You can change to a mold, or use some tools. I like to use calipers, it's like a ruler, but with a sliding piece on it that can help measure very, very accurately. To sculpt an iris well, I like to use dotting tools. I found my larger sized dotting tools in a mandala painting kit. They look like this. You can start small to get centered, and work your way up in size. Then follow with a smaller dotting tool for a pupil.
