~20cm Dolls George/Luis Tiny BJD

This is George my first BJD I've owned and created! I know the joint system and overall look of it is a little clunky in comparison to other artists but he works, he can sit, stand, and do a numerous other things.

The main prototype for casting is made out of Polymer clay, (hence the wacky colours) I started sculpting and making him on a whim and I adore how he turned out. I plan on making another BJD when I'm done with him that'll be bigger and more cleanly built but so far I'm having a blast with him.

I did a preemptive cast in resin to figure out how to do it and make molds and over all made a lot of mistakes. (The bottom picture is a resin cast I did) so I've tweaked his design since then and made things a little more flush and plan on making new molds!
This has been a fun experience and I can't wait to make more!

Update so far! I adjusted the knee joints and soon the elbow to make them more hidden and flush!!

Thank you!! I've tweaked him a bit more, changing his shoulders, and arms and torso a bit. I've learned so much doing this and I really am excited to start my next project!

I want to share this old picture of George from the absolute First sculpt of him! He could Barely do anything and his headcap didn't fit right but I spent 12 hours on it and this was the result and since then I have poured more and more time and he's come so far

Changed up his torso and hips making it less clunky looking, may change the hips but so far so good imo ^-^

 

I finished the first set of casts of George and it was.. A bit of a disaster! But I've learned a LOT in the process.

My casting was a bit inconsistent and bubbly, and the molds were Bad. But I'm happy I did it, and I've got a lot of the defects still to clean up.

I'm going to take apart George, resculpt some pieces, change around his mold a little then try casting Again with everything I've learned from this experience! ^-^

 

Some updates to the new version of George now called Luis!

With the new molding of George I've changed the name of this sculpt to be Luis to not be confused with the previous version as i've changed quite a bit from the first iteration.

I'm really excited in working on him, he will have magnetic hands and two sets of hands. ^-^

He's still the same size roughly at about 5 inches tall. I hope to string him up and post pictures the next few days so look out for that!

 

Managed to string up Luis today, there's definitely parts I need to adjust, specifically for the hip joints into the torso as well as the covering part for the elbows and knees. But So far so good. He definitely needs more sanding too but for the time being rough sanding is fine as I alter and add to him.

I did a little sculpting on him but nothing exceptionally new to post yet! I've been cleaning up the old defects of George to sell right now ^^

Strung up a very mismatched George to keep for myself, gave him a cute face. All the defective Georges I have still need to be strung up, but I'm glad I finally got to do a face up on at least one of them.

I also have a highlight on my instagram of Georges that have been received and customized by their new owners ^-^

I hope to work more on Luis sometime this week

 

There is some! I was tweaking him last night and decided it change him from single joint hips to double jointed hips! Go big or go home!

^-^ I've college to worry about so I'm going to be a little busy working on homework and Luis will be something I toy with on the side to keep sane haha

Luis update! I even did a comparison next to George, he's a bit taller and his head is a bit bigger in general, I still need to do some tweaks to his knees and elbows but i'm on the right track now!

I've been working recently on my little doll again! I've worked out the hips and torso it's down to just tweaks and adjustments to make him perfect

Here's a couple more shots of him! I added a little tail As a note his hands will be magnetic when i'm done, they don't like to stay on with sticky tack that well in the meantime xD

 

Thank you!! I've been working on priming him recently with some indoor outdoor acrylic i have (Enamel primer doesn't react well with polymer) So right now it's priming, sanding, priming time! Once it's all smooth i'll be posting more photos!! ^-^
