General Dream of Doll Discussion Thread (for DoTs and DoIs)

Jul 31, 2008

    1. Since there is no place for this, I decided to create a "General" DoT and DoI discussion thread.

If you own/want/etc. a DoT or DoI- feel free to post your opinions, likes, dislikes, tips, questions, comments and anything else regarding these beautiful boys and girls. :aheartbea

    2. *hopes it stays*

Good job air! =D Im glad they understood what we wanted.. -__-

    3. Yes, I'm glad as well, I hope it doesn't get moved anymore... if the first post is not all right I'm sure a mod can edit if necessary so it stays. We need this place D:.

    4. yay! hopefully in the next couple weeks i'll be able to move from the waiting room and chat with you guys here. :)

    5. Yush, having a general discussion thread is better for those of us who do have our dolls, rather than our conversations cluttering up the waiting room. :X Right? Right?

SO. I'm done with my ranting about dust and how it gets in the sealer and how I have to scrape at it with my nail to get it out. . .And how I'm not entirely satisfied with how the faceupping is going but I really don't want to wipe it and start over (I mean, it looks really good except for the little bits of dust and the partially-wiped sealer that can be seen at certain angles).

      Boo.

I want to take pictures of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in their Dollheart outfits. NOW. ><

But I'm waiting for the newest layer of sealer to finish drying. . .If I oversprayed again I'll have to wipe the faceup anyway.

    6. well I hope your faceup troubles to go away mukino. Cant wait to see your boys with thier faceups <33

    7. Hooray for the thread being allowed! XD

Alright, so for those who've gotten their dolls, am I the only one who gets the feeling that the outfits were designed to work on their site only? o.O

With Faye, her hat seems cheaply made, has a hard time holding it's shape, and the ribbon doesn't fit around it properly o.O As well, the jacket is near impossible to get over the shirt sleeves, when I Do manage, the sleeves are still bunched up around the elbows, so she can't move her arms very well, and also, the pants are too tight for her to sit down properly x.x

Do the other default outfits have similar problems?

    8. Sorry to hear about your outfit issues, Kisho. ._. I wish I could offer assistance, but I don't have any DoD clothes.

[The latest layer of sealer went on fine, but another bit of dust got in. *headdesk* I think I'll scrub at it with a magic eraser tomorrow, since I used that to remove most of the faceup on my practice head and it didn't leave the ugly ridge of sealer that rubbing alcohol does]

    9. Ive heard that Ducan's outfit doesnt fit right either... o.o

    10. Yeah I heard that about Ducan........which sucks, but I'm getting him anyway :XD: I do love his default outfit!

The two sets of clothes I bought from DOD for my boy are fine. i think they're really well made. With one of the outfits the shorts doo seem to come unsnaped when he sits down, but it doesn't really bother me as I hardly notice (they don't fall off or anything). With his suit, it is hard to get his jacket on over his shirt sleeves with out them bunching, but I've managed to be able to pull them down now with a bit of fiddling. But I think that may be because they are doll clothes, and therefore they are going to encounter some problems that happens even in human clothes. That sucks about the pants though :(...my boys ones go up to around his waist, so there isn't a problem.

    11. im excited though. Im going to a con.. well today.. And my uncles letting me borrow his -nice- awesome camera. so Im gonna give uri a proper photoshoot. So after this weekend be prepared for alot of spam. :D

    12. I have a Ducan and yes, there are flaws ... you could say. The pants are stiff and when he moves (especially sitting down) ... you can see his butt crack, if not, at least HALF his butt *_* ... as for the shirt ... it was confusing at first how to put it on .... but the shirt isnt too bad ... it's short, in order to show off his tummy ... kawaii!~ :love XDDD ... the corset with the back-side tail thinger with cross-belt straps ... mine fits perfectly ... dont have a problem with that .... but for his wig ... it doesn't seem to stay that well, even with the velcro. :| I just ordered a new wig from LeekeWorld yesterday, so yes, I am going to change his wig. Perhaps that will fit better than the default. *_*

    13. i noticed that too about my sha's wig.. doesnt like to stay on unless I use velcro or a rubber band..

    14. yea i've heard other Ducan owners say the same thing about the default wig. And they say it fits better on their other dolls. So i dunno .... Ducan has "supposedly" (if following the same measurements as Sha) ... an 8.5inch head. So hopefully this new wig i ordered will fit him better >_>;;; or else i'll still have this paranoia of worrying about his wig coming off because its loose. = =;;;

    15. i got uri a Black luts wig (they say are 8.5-9.5) here in the marketplace.. and its super huge on him.. works with velcro and im only using it was a cosplay..

Why do DoTs have to be so difficult :|

    16. I don't know why D.O.D makes their doll stuff so difficult. And I still need a carrying bag/case for my Kiyoshi. I've gotten him an outfit from DollHeart. Had him physically try it on before buying it, yet still ... I find it SHORT too. Especially since DH outfits that 'would' fit H.Ducans are for SD13s ... but pant length and arm length-wise, they are short. It isn't that big of a deal, but if they were wearing pants that need the pants over the boots (like for formal outfits) ... then it would be a problem because it would be obvious that the pants are too short. >_>;;;

    17. The first thing I have to say about DOT females: Wow, this doll is voluptuous! My girl has a ghetto booty and I find that most things I try to fit her in usually is really tight around her bum and her chest.

Second thing is that for as flexible as their arms are, the legs are wanting. The knees drive me crazy, though. Terrible for kneeling. I hope they come out with a new body for the DOTs soon.

    18. Yay for DoT angst. 8D I've got wig issues, too, but I'm willing to bet that it's because there's no elastic and the stuff they've used for the base isn't stretchy.

EDIT - I haven't had much problem posing so far; granted, the only posing I've done was getting them to stand for the box opening pics. Their knees kept wanting to bend.

    19. I find that with the wigs, the wig-caps are so small! @_@ I have another wig that I use for Yewi and it covers more, so it sits nicely without velcro or any other aid. You'd think that DOD would figure out by now to make their stuff fit better, or maybe no one has mentioned it to them yet.

    20. LOL my cousin just came around to use the bathroom (was out partying or something and remembered we were nearby - predominantly I think because one end of our street is closed off due to a land slip threatening the houses there :horror: ), and her friend or boyfriend that was with her was totally stoned. The reason I mention this was because as soon as I saw him I thought 'OMG his eyes totally look like my Lahoo's did before I repositioned them!'

So instead of referring to that look the dolls have as 'deer in the headlights', they shall henceforth look stoned to me

In regards to the wigs, yeah they do fall off easily! And with me DOD gave me two strips of the same side of velcro, so I tried to use velcro dots, but they wouldn't stick to the wig :...( So I need to find a thick rubberband and try that method...

    21. My Ducan's outfit fit him okay, but it was hell getting it on him - I felt like I needed instructions. Once it was on, I told Lucah he absolutely *had* to wear it for a year - which he did. His wig was lovely, but the bane of my life the way it kept jumping off his head. Eventually some double-sided tape fixed the problem :thumbup

Now he wears other clothes and wigs, and I suspect it will be some time before I try to wrangle him back into his default outfit

    22. Aww, I have the same issue with their wigs. Two DoT wigs I have keep popping off with the slightest pressure. I've tried wrapping the head with an elastic band..it does help, but it can get annoying to keep positioning it.

And... hoooraay for the thread :D

    23. I was looking at my "doll sizes" notes and they say that SD13 dolls are 60cm tall, DOTs are 64cm tall so pants and shirts will come up short. It's always a problem with DOTs being the size they are to get clothes to fit. Unless you roll the shirt sleeves up, or tuck the pants into boots, the difference between dollie limbs and clothing will be noticable. That said, I have managed to get clothes that fit very well, you just have to be extra careful about lengths.

    24. I actually have the same problem with her hat. The ribbon seems far too small for the hat and just pops off randomly. Also it doesn't really stay on her head too well either. I also noticed the same issue with the pants, while they look super awesome when she's standing....she can't sit. But she can kneel XD

    25. My Lahoo's fur wig fits fine and stays on as long as I don't mess too much with it <.< . The shoes I got him though, were a terribly tight fit.

BTW, can someone explain to me how the DoT headcap works? I want to reposition his eyes but have no idea how to go about taking it off. Is it magnetic, snap on, held with the hook? :sweat

    26. It's magnetic. 8D Which amused me to no end; I spent five minutes taking it off and putting it back on.

Be thankful it's not held on with the hook. BE THANKFUL.

    27. So, to take it off do I twist it? or pull as hard as I can? XD

.. I was used to snap on headcaps XD

    28. Um, I'd think that either method would work - I just grip the headcap firmly on both sides and pull one side up. 8D

    29. ok, I shall try that as soon as I get home then :D , thanks a lot Mukino! :aheartbea

    30. Lol, was so glad to see the magnetic headcap. Was totally a blessing with my SD Snyder, having seen the fun that Kiara has to go through with most of her dolls o.O So to get my second doll, and have it Also have a magnetic cap..

    31. Yay! I like this thread a lot ^.^ i've noticed one thing with both my Ducans and my Sha. The Sha head is a tad smaller which is probly because it's a girls head. Also the neck is a bit smaller than Ducans.. its more slim which is probly because the heads smaller. I always wondered how they got the head to fit nicely on the boy body XD well now I know. theres even a big difference where the S Hook sits on the top of the neck without the head on.

    32. Has anyone else found a problem with the headcap falling off whenever the doll is knocked over? It seems that regardless of how my ducan falls his headcap will always come off, even with an elastic band around the s hook =/

    33. Adae - All my DOT boys always lose their headcaps with their wigs anytime they fall over. I don't think theres anyway to avoid it

    34. Adae Yup! Their headcap kinda take the blow. During our meet at Anime Expo 08, we had a DOT, DOI and DOC topple over at the same time and all their headcaps popped off.

      It was soo funny ^^;;

    35. .. and I still can't figure out how to take mine off. I don't want to make him topple over to get results, can someone get me pictures of the inside of the headcap on both sides? that would help XD

    36. I took these really fast since I gotta head out but I hope they are able to help ^^;;

    37. Whoa! great pictures Angela, thank you! :D I shall go try again :)

    38. The headcaps pretty much just come off, even if you don't want them to D:

I've been thinking about tieing something tighter around the s hook and through the resin hole to get it to stay on tighter. But i'm not sure what would work.

    39. Yeah, I finally managed to take my headcap off this morning, the problem was some of the glue used to place the magnets in place had spread out and the headcap was basically glued at the corners. Now that the extra glues is off it's really easy to take off and put back on :) .

    40. That's good you got it off, Air :) I heard that someone had a real problem with the glue like that with their DOB....with me I believe I was just too nervous for a while to pull hard enough, even with just the magnets holding it on :sweat

    41. Oh a DoT thread! Hi guys. I have an E-an and a H.Ducan, I have both their default outfits too. Ive found a little trick to putting on her shirt and jacket. Put the shirt sleeves inside the jacket sleeves before putting it on E-an. (make sure that there is a little bit of cuff sticking out the bottom of the jacket sleeve). That way when you put the jacket and shirt on at the same time they dont bunch up.

The H.ducan outfit annoys me sometimes, his trousers are so tight i feel like im gonna pull his feet off or something when im taking it off. It also took me a while to figure out how to put his top on (i kept putting it on upside down).

I dont have a problem with my Ducan's wig (altho he doesnt wear it often), its so smooth compared to the default pics...ive a friend who also has Ducan (bought about a year before mine) and her wig was spiky right from the box opening, wierd huh?

My E-an's wig on the other hand is a nightmare, it pops off every 2 seconds. Thankfully i dont mind cos she doesnt wear it.

    42. Yay! DOT Discussion~! Hello, guys n_n

      Due to their very weird size, I have three questions;
For pants, has anyone tried hemming Hound pants for their DOT? Also, do the Volks long-leg SD-13 boy pants fit well?
And for shoes....what kind of shoes will fit my poor, shoe-less Camine? ;n; I haven't bothered to buy him shoes yet, 'cause I have no idea what will even fit him.

    43. hi guys~ Im back from my convention! ^^ I have like a ton of pictures to go through.. so much dollie goodness @.@

borrowed my uncles nice camera! Took beautiful pictures........ then I dropped it cause i was spazzing because uri had a small accident with his face up! story later.... and it wont focus anymore... =[ my uncles gonna kill me!!!

      And story~~
So.. im outside taking pictures of uri and my friends boy Casey.. and I notice there is like dirty or something near his lip.. and i gently! try and rub it off and it wasnt working.. and when I looked closer i notice that I somehow accidently rubbed off some of his lower lip paint stuff!! D=!!! But he is fine now thanks to a very talented faceup artist up in the artist ally.. She cleaned up his lips and made him all better! Looks like nothing ever happened! ^^ thank god.. but i accidently dropped the camera in the process =[

    44. Ohgeez! It's good luck that someone in Artist Alley was able to help you :) Sorry about your Uncle's camera, though o_o; Maybe it's fixable?

I can't wait to see all of your con pictures! n_n

    45. yes! pics would be great! hope you had fun, despite the small accidents. :)

    46. hey wow i just found this
      yay for DOT

    47. That's fortunate! :) I don't ever cosplay, so at least something with me will be getting attention XD

And have fun at the convention Adae! n_n (There aren't any summer conventions here u_u Just fall and spring)

    48. Ahhh! I found out from a friend that my local doll shop place sells Wigs!! Wigs! Wonderful Wonderful wigs! in different sized too!! And she's having a moving sale and like the wigs are 10 for $10!!! o______o we might go up there tomorrow and see what she has.

    49. WOW Great deal XD

    50. I can answer this, I've dealt with Beren's strange sizing issues for almost two years so I've tried out a lot of things. :)

Hound pants aren't just long, they're bigger in the waist and thighs and will fall right off your guy. He'll look like a little kid playing dress up in daddy's jeans. Also Volks long leg pants are way highwater on my boy, a lot of their pants tend to run on the short side even on smaller dolls.

DoT's are tall but incredibly skinny and lanky compared to other dolls of the same size. All their extra height is in the legs but they have a thinner waist, so they are very hard to find pants for. *_* Beren wears pants made by a seamstress (shiroi_yukiko) in the DoA Marketplace who owns a DoT and can sew for them. The baggy cargo pants Cheerydoll makes for SD-13 long leg boys also fit him.

As for shoes, look for sellers who will tell you the inside measurement of the shoes which needs to be about 8.5cms. His feet are 7.5cms but you really need that extra bit to squeeze them on, especially if he's wearing socks (all of my boys do, to prevent stains). Mimiwoo on Ebay gives measurements, as does Releaserain and they both carry shoes that fit DoTs. Dollmore Model shoes also fit.

Also you didn't ask but a helpful note on wigs-
Leeke 8-9 wigs fit kinda loose. Regular SD wigs will eat his head. Kondoll's DoT sized wigs fit very well but are so-so quality. Dream of Doll's wigs have no elastic and sometimes like to pop off, but are very good quality. For My Doll's L (8.5) sized wigs fit perfectly and are decent quality.

      Hope this helps. :)

    51. i know~ I hope I can find something to fit uri... =/
and my friend thinks the lady mentioned that she's thinking about getting BJD items to sell.. =DDD

    52. hey does anyone else have problems with their DOT bending at the hips when trying to stand?

its better now but when I try to pose my Zoey she likes to bend at the hips and take a head dive....

    53. kpatillo: I have those problems, too, more so with Rosencrantz than with Guildenstern. I'm pretty sure it's a stringing issue. *joy*

Also, re: Clothes; Dollmore Model M pants are basically the same as Hound pants; decent for length but holy crap the waist. Because the pants I have come up really high, though, I haven't had a problem (but holy crap it's fun trying to pick them up without them slipping o.O) with them falling down.

I've found that Dollheart's SD13 clothes fit very, VERY nicely, though. I don't think that there's a highwater effect on my pants, but then again I'll need to go back to the Dollheart site and make sure.

I think Luts clothes will fit nicely, too, judging from their own dolls' measurements.

    54. My guy does that too, when I first got him he bent over and faceplanted on the edge of his box and got a small blue mark on his chin. You can try tightening his elastic but that never quite did the trick for me, Beren still acted like his hip joints had grease in them. I've found sueding works really well to fix it.

I've never tried Dollheart pants. Its kinda hit or miss whether pants that are supposed to be sized for SD-13 long leg will work for a DoT, so I was leery of buying an expensive outfit that might not fit. I have lots of pants Beren couldn't wear that got passed on to my other boys... but since Dollheart fits your boy I might try em out. :) Its mainly Volks made pants that are super short, and not just on DoT's. I've got a pair of SD-13 Volks pants that are still slightly highwater on my El's Fdoll body.

Do you mean Luts Senior Delf pants?

    55. uri like to flop over too... like when I was trying to get him to lean against out coffee table... our glass coffee table. He flopped over and face planted into it.. -___- he was alright..

    56. @Reshana: Yes, I'm referring to Senior Delf stuff.

I went and looked at the pics on Dollheart's site, and the pants are just a *titch* too short. It's nowhere near the highwater effect that I've seen on some DoTs, though (I WILL POST PICTURES SHORTLY).

And now I'm having eye placement problems. *_* How do you guys manage those half-round acrylics? Holy crap.

    57. For anyone with DOT girls-

I find that I have the hardest time finding clothes from other doll companies because her hips are just so darn big! Even my Fiancee commented that she had a bit of "junk in the trunk" purportionally to her size, and just the other day I notice that a skirt I have for her is being ruined from all the stretching I have to do to make it go over her bum.

Any other stories to tell? Anyone know of doll companies that make pants that fit comfortably on DOT girls?

    58. Ahhh good to know. I might end up getting an outfit from Dollheart anyway for one of my other boys, and try it on Beren to see how it looks. I like the Senior Delf stuff too so I'm glad to hear it should fit.

For half round eyes, I usually put a solid layer of putty behind the eye and press it into the eyewell, then kinda poke around on the putty to adjust it. But also keep in mind that DoTs have uneven eyewells that make it difficult to position hard eyes and you end up having to place them dead center (the reason that a lot of them look kinda O_O on occasion). I used to use only soft silicones on Beren because of that until I finally got the courage to bevel him.
