It can be ethics, habits, hobbies, beliefs….. anything that is purely you and not required in order to play the games you play. I’ll start by example. I rotate any crops I grow. Whether the game is Animal Crossing or Final Fantasy XIV, I always rotate the crops and never grow the same thing on the same spot two times in a row. Obviously if your playing a farming sim then that’s required for soil health but in games where it doesn’t matter I still do it. I grew up on a farm and with a keen gardener grandmother so it’s a habit that has stuck. In any game where I’m required to kill things for food or items I’m very careful about what and how many in any given area. If it’s a herding creature I tend to only hunt the males and avoid killing females and young. I will also only take down a few before moving to another spot. In most games I play the creatures respawn quite quickly so technically it doesn’t matter but in my mind I have to be responsible. Item storage is another thing, I tend to try and sort things out and categorise them. Even my money….I’ll have it stashed in several places. Furnishings have to be placed responsibly too so I won’t place paper, books or rugs too close to a fireplace for example. If decorating the homes of npcs (non playable characters) such as Animal Crossing villagers I have to make sure they have the basics such as food prep areas and toilets even if they never use them. Added: I hold my breath if my game character dives under water! Added: If gear and armour can be glamoured I won’t use anything too shiny or glitzy during the early levels as I tend to be of the belief that gear should look a bit thrown together and scruffy until I’ve earned it. Also I use clothing that looks appropriate for the climate of the area my character is in such as furred, heavy gear in snowy places or lightweight earthy toned armour in desert climates. I know there’s other things I do that some folk find odd but I’ve forgotten for now. What gameplay quirks do you have?
Such a fun theme and question !!! For me is ha ha none I mostly play puzzle games but in league of legends I just play to win , and as a champion I rotate through all my favorites like a chameleon , same with most of the games rise of kingdoms and age of empires I have several player accounts and rotate the civilizations I play with basicaly now that I think about it the only thing I bring with me is my need for variety and many options!!!
In Animal Crossing, I always have a special "orchard" with the different fruit trees in neat rows. Now that there are veggies in ACNH, I put them in neat little rows as well.
When playing Sims, there MUST be toilet paper in the toilet! They don't use it, it's only decorative, but still.
Irl I am a bit of a hoarder and when I play video games I kind of forget how many items I am carrying especially when I play the later Fallout games, I have tried to STOP this as I've gotten older because I always get the "over encumbered" warning and then I realize I've randomly picked up random garden gnomes and teddy bears in there which I try not to do although some of the weapons are super heavy too??? So I try to store certain ones if that is the case... As for other games like Sims for example: in the PSP version of Sims 2 which I'm playing currently only has a few slots for items and it won't let you add too many objects to your house There's certain furnishing items which I love in the PC Sims games (1,2) and I always decorate my houses with them but I try not to overload my houses also :')
I'm an unrepentent packrat in Bethesda games. I might not need those 50 clipboards now but what if I do 10 hours of gameplay from now????
For all hoarders I wholeheartedly recommend playing Death Stranding where managing your cargo is a whole thing. I will never pack my bag the same again after that
@Agnes-Agatha actually now that you mention it I do something similar in games I’ve played in the past. I too like to have options and rarely ever have only one character! @cleverLC yes, yes……I have my orchard in neat rows and no two fruit colours the same near each other. I also have orange trees in the villager area beside the beach only as for some reason my brain equates the beach with sunshine. I also only have the pine trees in the north end of my island as by the same weird logic that means it’s colder! @cobaltconduct yes, the toilet paper. I do the same and I always put a hand towel by the sink and bath or shower. @Jareth @SaltedPretzel oh boy do I know this well! I’m very much a ‘keep it just in case’ person in real life and yup that follows me into the gaming world. I’m especially doomed if I play any games where you can craft items. Even though as I said I tend to sort out items I’m dreadful for hoarding.
I love archery IRL, so I tend to (always) play an archer. My main games are Legend of Zelda titles (which makes archery easy) and Final Fantasy XIV (started as an archer, then graduated to bard, still with bow). It's insanely difficult for me to play a non-ranged character since I'm so used to archers. I'm gonna try, though! At some point... I also love fashion and my characters are always dressed....strangely and usually with bright colours if I can. As for ethics, I'm a pretty decent lawful good and my characters usually play out that way, too.
@Aiko-chan Archer/Bard was my first love on FFXIV too until they changed it and I tend to play ranged in most games. BRD on FFXI was just insane to try and play but BRD on XIV was much better, it still wasn’t easy from the point of view that you got a lot of grief from other players who said it was a useless job and liked to blame BRDs for everything that went wrong. I’ve lately started playing it again on an alt character and recent changes have made it much nicer to play it seems so I may pick it up again on my main. Try Dancer (if you have the expansion pack required for it), like BRD it’s a ranged job, uses Chakram like weapons and is fairly fast paced. Haha I always end up being good and lawful even when I try not to.
@Blodeuwedd omg I know about the other players' complaints and whining. Ugh. But I stopped caring (and also have friends I team up with that don't whine at me lol) so that's gotten better. The dancer does seem like an interesting role so I may try it out! Thanks for the info!
I'm definitely in the "But I might need this later!" overburdened inventory group xD IRL i've been trying to be better lately about not going "but I could use this for something later" with things that I really ought to trash or give away.
Ages ago when I played Mass Effect I didn't have the heart to get a single Renegade run. I couldn't even punch the reporter which was definitely a compelling choice.
I was thinking earlier about how even when I have played a game multiple times and know how to complete a mission the quickest way I still like to go through all the steps even if it is a bit tedious and takes a lot longer :’) I appreciate in the DS version of the Sims 2 that it runs on real time so you have to wait to complete certain goals as they can only be done at night time etc
Another thing I do is dailies in a particular order, for example if I’m doing the daily hunt bills in FFXIV I always start in the highest lvl area for any given set and work my way down to the lower lvl. With Quests in general I always work form the furthest away distance wise to the closest. It’s something I do in RL as well if I’m shopping or going particular places. I start at the furthest away and work to the closest. I also have particular spots that I will do any crafting in and don’t like it when someone else is there. I’m very Sheldon about that.
