Full armor

Jul 8, 2017

    1. Hello everybody. I´ve been working on my full leather armor set for battlemage MSD. It should consist helmet - nothing fancy, just to cover the head, and ears. Armor plate, leg protectors (I don´t know the english word for it. It´s this piece of armor below the waist, sort of like a skirt :D), shoulders, wristbands and high leather boots, more in viking style.

My point is, I can´t find patterns anywhere. Most of the patterns I´ve seen was just a lot of talking and a few quick sketches. So please, I would be very glad if you share some of your own/or just patterns you´ve seen, in medieval-fantasy style. I´m struggling with that and leather (and fake leather) is not cheap to make experiments. (I´ve tried to make cotton pattern, but cotton and leather don´t work exactly the same for me).

      Thank you!

    2. I couldn't find any patterns and I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for but a faceup artist I strongly admire (she works with off topic dolls) made a video about doll armor. It's mostly about the armor plating and less about the leathers. She has another video about making doll patterns through taking things apart and she then talks about how to make up patterns, I'm not sure it'll help but that one's here.
I haven't checked her but I bet there's something similar to what you're looking for in the sewing and project threads, if I see anything I'll link it.
Sorry I couldn't be more help, I really hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck!

    3. Thank you guys! I´ll take look! :-*

@skyealloway You are right, I should buy one. I´m just afraid I might not modify it so well, but as you said, my doll is not so popular and she does have modified breasts. :D

      @KlanceKlanceRevolutn Thank you! You´ve helped a lot!

    4. @MamaQuak The late Valkyrie made a set of leather armor for a Dollzone MSD for a contest for me. I have copied and shared the pattern in my Google Drive since the dolls-n-daggers page is gone and no one else seems to have made their copies public.

    5. Awesome Armor!

    6. With armor there's about a thousand styles available so a lot depends on how you want it to be: lots of metal, mail, very little metal, lots of leather, full body head to toe coverage or light armor coverage, and so on.
      Here's two examples:
Very light armor. Just a studded leather vest called a brigandine, and some heavy weight trousers.

      Cont. next post.

    7. Or, a much more complete set of a chain/mail shirt with a coat of plates over it, a kidney belt (waist protector) over That, and bracers (arm guards). She is much more protected and covered.

It can help if you have a favorite historical culture and time period with armor you like the look of.
You mentioned Vikings but they wore a chain/mail shirt over a padded jacket and a simple helmet- very little other armor is documented for Vikings, AFAIK. That armor, therefore, might be very easy to make depending on how exact you want to be at making a chain shirt. The one I've made in that picture is just a fabric with the right look and a metallic finish to it.

    8. if you want chain mail, you could probaby find tiny jump rings at Michaels or the other place and (painstakingly) link them together. the link patterns are specific to various places and times, but here are samples....
