After a very, very, very long time out of the hobby, I picked up my two doll's from my mom's house a few weeks ago and have been working on updating their faceups. While I still definitely have a lot to learn, I'm so happy with how they turned out. His old look: Aaand her old face: I think the most dramatic difference is in my newfound willingness to actually blush cheeks. They look so much more lifelike with a little bit of warmth! Eyelash hairs remain the bane of my existence, though, even with the world's thinnest brush and a lot of paint thinner. It was difficult to find a balance between the paint flowing easily enough to leave a line and being too subtle to see, especially with Cedric's lower lashes. I also discovered the joys of adding freckles by flicking on watered-down paint, and though they don't show up too well on camera, I really love the organic look they gave to Cedric's face. Feel free to comment with any constructive criticism, even if I hopefully won't be using it for a while while I chill with these faceups!
I think you did a great job on these. They look so calm and refreshed! Fine lines is always tricky. I don't think there is much to do about it other than practicing and it will come eventually. With that said, I think both your dolls look beautiful. And you can always add to Cedric's eyelashes later, should you want to.
