I really like the looks of bonnets, like, come on! All the ruffles, flowers, lace..! What is there not to like? Though one of my dolls wears 'em... But I still want to make them! I messed up with the seam allowance. It became a bit too big for my doll. So I had to pin the back and sides in. Made to fit SD sized heads. See next post for tutorial on how to make your own pattern for a bigger/smaller head. Or just print at a lower percentage. This pattern is very basic, so you can alter it as you like. But feel free to edit the pattern to fit your liking (please credit me though) or sell your finished products. I would love to see what you make, so please share your project or finished product here! You can also find my other free patterns HERE
Small, simple tutorial. (with blurry photos...) (And sorry again for the off-topic model!) To make your own pattern measure like this: Headdress section: Measure over your dolls head, ear to ear. From the (top)back of the head to the front. Spoiler Hood section: Measure from the front of the head and up, as high as you want it. Then use the ear-to-ear measurement, or back piece for the "arch". Spoiler Back section: Measure from the (top)back of the head downwards to (about) the start of the neck. Measure the width at back of the head, and when drawing the pattern, just round it according to the head... I pretty much just wing it. Be wary of seam allowance though. Spoiler Lastly, I like the "ruffles", so I have cut a third strip to use on the hood. Since it will be pleated, it takes a bit of fabric (for me at least, I am not that great at it...). Make the width of the third strip according to the highest part of the hood. And triple the length..? Spoiler If you are pleating it, you will have to trim it to fit the narrower/smaller sections, of course. Hopefully you will have a better method, or skill, than I! But it will look ok in the end at least.
Thank you for this! I was just thinking this morning that I need to find a bonnet pattern for one if my girls.
