Negative Feedback For Turynn

Jan 27, 2015

    1. I bought an item from Turynn on November 25, 2014. It was coming from Japan to me in the USA, and with the Christmas rush, I knew it would be delayed. But when it reached early January, I messaged to find out what had happened. She said she never realized I sent her the payment (though she withdrew it out of her PP account) and claimed it arrived with a bunch of other stuff. She also said her phone and email are not linked to her Paypal. I was patient, so it was to be mailed on January 5th.

This last week of January, I wrote Turynn on DOA, and no response. Yet, I saw she had time to bump her FS posts. I finally just gave up and filed a Paypal dispute. The seller claims that she doesn't have her Paypal linked to her phone or email, but she responded really quickly when I did the dispute, so she was notified somehow.

She wrote me DOA explaining how she is in favor of Paypal refunding me, but they won't let her. So I guess I have to wait a few days. What just really irks me is that was that she NEVER sent it on January 5th. She brushed it off and waited until I filed a dispute.

Anyhow, I'm going to get my money sooner or later, but as of now, I do not have it. And I've been waiting 2 months for an item and I am just frustrated with the whole situation.

    2. Paypal has now refunded my money. I'm glad that it is all over now.

    3. Suryo please link to this thread in Turynn's feedback thread.

    4. So, it feels really awkward to be replying to this nearly 2 years later (I apologize for not getting to it sooner - I don't recall if I realized this was here in the first place:sweat).
Since it surprised me by popping up as the #1 result for my name on SEO tools, despite the fact that, at the time of this writing, it's got ~22k less views than my 19 page DoA feedback thread and is ~10 years younger than my oldest account registered with this name, I thought it might be best to add my express my thoughts if it's the first thing people (including non-DoA people or DoA members who don't know where to find my other feedback thread) are going to see when Googling me ;). I think the other party is allowed to reply in a transaction thread (forgive me if I'm wrong).

      -----------------------------------

First of all, although I'm sure I have already done so via PM, I'd like to again apologize to suryo for the inconvenience and ultimate disappointment caused by this transaction.

Second, I'd like to offer an explanation.
In summary: I rely heavily on direct communication from the buyer to let me know their plans/actions/requests.

After PMing the total with shipping and my PayPal address, I got no response from suryo. Occasionally, when someone hears the shipping price and then decides not to purchase the item they'll be kind enough to PM me back to let me know, but for the most part, when I get no response they've just disappeared. I've been selling online for 15 years now and it happens a lot. People are busy; I get it. I don't sweat it.

Because I received no response, I mistakenly assumed she was not interested in the item after hearing the shipping price. I am truly sorry that my experiences were not compatible with suryo's or with her unspoken expectations.

Up until this point (or indeed not again since this transaction) I haven't had an instance where someone has decided to purchase the item, paid, and not messaged me to confirm. I personally believe it's best to write to confirm since I have had buyers accidentally make a typo, put in the wrong @domain, or for some other reason had the payment not come through.

However, I do understand suryo's likely expectation that the PayPal e-mail notification should have served as adequate communication. Unfortunately that's just now how I PayPal and has never caused me a problem on DoA or anywhere else (more detail in the e-mail section).

Yes, it was completely 100% my mistake not noticing suryo's payment and I do apologize for that. I would just like to make the circumstances clear though. I did not start with a $0.00 balance in my account which then one day had her single transaction sitting there under the "recent" list loud and clear and choose to ignore it.

At the time I had unknowingly made the sale to suryo, I was also selling items on about 3~4 other sites so I had many, many transactions during this period. I might get up to 5 separate payments a day. Over a period of weeks where I was not aware that I should be looking for suryo's payment, this amounted to a flood of lines on two PayPal accounts with unfamiliar names that hardly ever match website screen names. When I've got a lot of sales I usually use Ctrl + F to find a transaction quickly, so there's a good chance that if I'm not looking... I'm not going to see it. My balance was constantly changing with sales and purchases, and as I recall, suryo's purchase was for a fairly inexpensive item which meant it was easily overlooked as it didn't make a huge difference in my balance of random numbers.

As for "withdrew it out of PP account"-
I'm not quite sure what this means as I don't know of any way to tell what someone has done with your payment after they've received it, but I'll go for it anyway.
I'm sure most people know this, but for clarity's sake, when you make a withdrawal or directly spend your balance, you don't do it transaction-by-transaction (at least on US/JP PayPal). The withdrawal comes from the total balance. So if you have 10 payments that together total $100, you don't have to withdraw them one-by-one. You just withdraw $100 and that's it.

Suryo's payment was one small part of my total balance. So if she got some notification that I withdrew her payment, it was most likely because it became a part of my total balance and was transferred together in a lump transfer with all the other ones I received.
I at no time opened her individual transaction and said, "Oh, look, Suryo paid me. I'm going to take her money and do nothing."

Almost correct. I apologize if my explanation over PM was unclear.

Obviously my PayPal account has an e-mail address, but this is not an e-mail I use for normal communication, for forums, or any other accounts. For security reasons, my most sensitive accounts (PayPal/bank/CC) are not connected to anything else and the associated e-mail accounts are only accessed by a single machine at any given time so it would be easy for me to monitor if my accounts have been accessed from another machine/location. This should have been true at the time of the transaction too.

Yes... it's a bit inconvenient since, if I have a layaway with DDE or something, I don't always see the e-mail notifications right way XD so I have to sent a reminder on my calendar to log in to PayPal to pay my bill. But I've had a family member make the mistake of using her bank e-mail for literally everything and when it got hacked... it was a real nightmare. I do everything to minimize my risk.

Since, as mentioned above, there has never been a problem with people notifying me of their payments, I do not check these e-mails for the purpose of seeing if someone has paid me. They're only checked for financial matters a few times a month, by which time I generally have a flood of PayPal e-mails for all the transactions/transfers that have happened during that time. Since I've already taken care of the PayPal matters directly through whatever platform I've sold/bought on, there's really no reason to open each e-mail. I've already dealt with them through PM, and unless it's a layaway situation, it's almost definitely already shipped to the buyer, so the thought to open the e-mails for stuff already taken care of just doesn't occur to me.

Of course my PayPal has an associated phone number, but PayPal doesn't send texts or notifications to this number. It's just for identity verification. I think that's the default. It is how my account is configured anyway.

Furthermore, at the time this transaction took place I did not use the PayPal app on my phone.
(I do now, for maybe the past year, but you can only be logged on to one account at a time. So if I someone sends me a payment to my US PayPal while I'm logged on my JP one, I'm not going to get a notification about it. Associated e-mail accounts are still not connected to my phone though (phones can be lost, stolen, connect to friends' unsecured wifi networks...). So, just FYI for any future transactions - it's still important to let me know if you're interested in/going to pay for an item :).

I logged in to my PayPal account (probably to do a transfer or check for someone's payment after they notified me :)) and there was a large notice right on the page. Impossible to miss & no e-mail checking necessary.

At this point, I can only guess at I was doing on January 5, 2015. Whatever it was, I do sincerely apologize that I allowed it to get in the way of contacting you to let you know. That was clearly my miss. :(
