March 19 2007: Prototype heads--Part one of a full MBJD project (or, as it may turn out, two ). The modelling clay I got turned out to be smoother and firmer than I had thought, and I'm quite pleased with the results. Head number one belongs to a catlike alien based on one of my current muses, and head number two is human, though I feel that it needs more work. Both heads are sporting glass marbles for eyes in the pictures below. Head #1: Bonus points is anyone knows what the background text is about. Head #2: (Yes, that IS half a gachapon capsule the head is drying on.) Both heads together: Comments and crit. appreciated!
I am now convinced that all doll makers feed from a similar Hive Mind, of sorts, because I am also working on a cat-like anthro and human doll (though my aliens are bit more humanoid) ! **Great minds think alike-?!** The eyes for head #1 are wicked cool, what are they made of? I like shape of his muzzle, it gives his smile this devious air about it. The human head has a very sweet expression, but the lips are a bit flat. Perhaps they can be extended slightly, in profile, to give them a fuller look? I'm eager to see how they turn out!
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!! Pullman's His Dark Materials!!!! Ahem. Yes, well, I've outed myself as a nerd with that one, haven't I? ^_~ They're looking good, keep at it!
Haha His Dark Materials are awesome books. The heads are looking very nice. Though the human head appears to be a little too round. You might try sanding down the sides a bit.
@Aamir: I'm sure we're not the only ones working on catlike BJDs! Both heads have glass marbles for eyes, and head #1 in particular is sporting cat's eye marbles. And yes, the lips are a bit flat on head #2 (I think the entire head might be too flat, actually. ) It definately needs more work...though for some reason the first head wasn't that hard to shape. I guess I need to work on human features? @Kiyakotari: Yes, His Dark Materials! I've only read the first book so far and already I find it far too fascinating for my own good. @arei: I've reached the same conclusion: a bit too flat and a bit too round. I'm not sure if round is a bad thing but I think I'll try fixing the flatness of the head and see if that helps.
