I finally tried making some eye bases out of some UV resin, but I didn't do a good job with my smaller molds so there are voids where air bubbles got trapped near the iris. I know I can use a tool to help eliminate this in the future, but is there anyway to save the ones I made already to not waste materials? The gaps don't show up well on camera, but the eyes are 10mm, so they're quite tiny. And does anyone have advice on cleaning molds/ keeping molds clean? I washed the ones i have before I tried casting the bases and there were still little specks of things in the bases that are visible in the bigger bases I made. I'm also wondering if you can use the same molds with clay and resin, or if the clay might leave residue that would negatively impact any resin bases cast later. I have some air dry clay I was thinking of trying out for bases, but if it might impact casting of resin, then I'll just try to use it to make iris details.
Sometimes if you're really careful you can drop some UV resin into the holes with the right color. It depends on the size and angle though. As for cleaning I dunk all mine in hot soapy water and "pop" the molds gently to make sure I clean around the iris part. Then I let them dry upside down after rinsing with water. I find wiping them dry with a cloth causes lint to get in the molds. I've personally messed up a mold by using clay in it but I think if you're really good with cleaning it might be ok but I would test it on a mold you're not gonna use much first. Always good to test materials.
Hmm I didn't use cloth to dry my molds, but i didn't flip them out either so maybe dust got stuck. I'll try that next time! How often do you suggest cleaning eye molds? And that's a good idea to test clay out on a mold I'm not going to use much. The set i bought come with sizes I'm non going to use, so I can test it in that. Thanks!
