fixing a bad background? help?

I really like this picture I took of memphis and jenna... something about the way they are standing, their body language... I just like it.

but clearly as I was rushing, I didn't really carefully position them, so you can see the ugly junk on the left, and for that matter, the background isn't all that right (geez I have to get new posterboard)...

what can I do to fix this, anything? I don't want to crop it and cut off Memphis' arm - it looks cute in her jeans pocket like that -
