Aesthetics First YoSD Face-Up!

Dec 14, 2015

    1. I just nearly completed the face-up for my third doll, a DBDoll Ninan. This is probably my fifth-ish time doing a face-up as I have done at least 2 different ones on each of my other two dollies (MSD sized).
I would love any tips you guys have! Personally I'm proud of the eyebrows most of all, and I think the things I feel weakest about are lashes and blushing.

    2. I really love the eyebrows and the cute little dimples!
The eyebrows show a lot of control and they look really natural, and the dimples are the perfect, sweet colour~
      Its really lovely!
The only thing I can pick up on really is maybe a little more colour around the nose/forehead?
Redder noses are more of a preference I think than anything else, but maybe the same colour you used for the cheeks dusted onto the forehead will bring out those lovely eyebrows even more~
      I hope that helps :)

    3. @Felinefero thank you~! That is helpful. I think I will try to deepen the blushing some and add some color to the nose. :whee:

    4. You did the lips really nicely! I feel like there is blushing missing on one of the cheeks (Mabe it is the picture though)

    5. @Shyld Thank you <3 and you might be right, I'm struggling with the blushing for some reason >.< I'll keep working on it a bit

    6. It's a bit hard to tell from the lighting in the photo, but I think you might have used quite a bit of brownish/beige toned pastel for the blushing on the cheeks? I think your blushing for the cheeks in 1 looks good for a first layer, and to make the blushing look more natural, you can add a layer of reddish pink over the sides of the cheek. I think the last photo show that you might have done a tad too much blushing on the cheeks overall, which is why no particular area really stands out? (Like, the blush colour itself is quite dark, but because it seems quite evenly applied on the whole cheek, all the way to the nose, it has the effect of just making the doll look a bit tan.)

If you know how some girls like to apply their concealer (on the triangle area under the eyes to brighten that area), I would suggest leaving the blushing in that area a bit lighter, and concentrate more blush on the apples of the cheek/cheekbone (depends on the effect you are after). Also, I personally like a bit of blush on the tip of the nose, centre of the forehead, and the chin area, which you might consider blushing in addition to the cheeks to bring out the 3-dimensionality of the face. Hope that helps!

    7. A bit more shadow in the philtrum, maybe? The detail on the lips is very nicely done and I think this is the first doll I've seen with dimples. How cute.

The eyebrows are really very good, and the only thing I'd change about the lower lashes would be to darken/thicken them so they stand out more? They're nicely painted, you have a steady hand!

    8. This is really good!!
Mine was sooo much worse than this. C: very good job!

    9. I love the feathery quality to your line work, it reminds me of a Renoir painting. Even if that wasn't your intention, I appreciate faceups with artistic unity, especially if they create a sort of effect like your's does.

The one nitpick I have is the lashes in the corners of the eyes, they look a little funny to me. A little too smudgy. That may be due to the lighting of this photograph though.
