Aesthetics First two faceups

Feb 20, 2017

    1. Hey folks! I was wondering if I could get some feedback on my first BJD faceups. While I have some ideas myself how I can improve I was hoping I could get another persons perspective! Below are some photos of my Leekeworld Mia (first faceup) and my Resin Soul Mei (second faceup) so you can see what I've done.

      Thanks in advance! ^^

    3. Thank you kindly!

    4. They are very nice! I would say they show a little hesitation with the reserved blushing and simplistic details- which totally makes sense for your first ones. It looks like you have a steady hand and would be capable of adding more depth with linework around the eyes, on the lips and bolder blushing. Hope that is helpful!

    5. These look great! :D I really love the colors you used for Mei's faceup :)

    6. @Dobry Thank you! I definitely lack confidence with it so I think you're right, I just need to "jump in" on my next faceup and push out of my comfort zone ^^

@Lovely Woods Thank you, too! I wanted to go for an earthy/foresty feel with her :D

    8. Oh, hey, I've seen your Mei's faceup on Instagram! I think it looks absolutely wonderful for a second try! I really enjoy her eyeshadow.

    9. Wow! You did a fantastic job, especially for your firsts two!

I like Mia's lip, cheek and eye colors. Her eyebrows shape is great, but may need a little more depth, definition, or shading? I'm not sure exactly what.

I like the colors on Mei. Her top eyelids are spectacular. The jems and crown are adorable. (Magnetic crown?) I really like the green and yellow.

      Keep up the good work!

    10. @Piko @flannelpaws Thank you both! I'm glad you like them ^^

@The_Modern_Maiden Thank you for the feedback! I think it may be my lack of confidence not putting on enough colour, so working on the eyebrows will definitely be my next goal.

In truth the gems on Mei are because some dark dust got stuck in the sealant while she was drying so I had to hide it hehe, but it worked out well. The crown is a cheap ring (I think 99p on ebay) and good for a small crown on msd or yosd :D

    11. @Asterael Looks very good! The modest blushing adds just the right amount of depth to the face. Perhaps to make the eyes and eyebrows pop a bit more, you could add some lighter colours as highlights or increasing the contrast. The lips on both faceups are stunning, love how you did those!

This next thing may be a matter of personal taste, but I feel the eyes would pop more with some fuller eyelashes.
      Hope this is helpful :whee:

    12. @LeMiss I have some light shimmery pearl powder on the way so I'm hoping to use that as some highlighter :D I love sparkly makeup hence all the gold hehe.

I definitely need to invest in some better lashes! Luckily theyre easy to replace when i get some ^^ thank you for the feedback!

    13. I personally wouldn't have gone so bright yellow on the eyeshadow for Mei, but I really love what you've done otherwise. I noticed you didn't hold back on the glitter with your Leeke girl and its awesome :D What materials did you use?

    14. @mincy that's fair enough, I have some bright clothes in similar colours planned for her so I was hoping I could co-ordinate it ahah. I used faber castell pastels and water colour pencils, some generic water colour paints and gold shimmer powder i bought from Leeke at the same time. The sealant was good ol' MSC

    15. Both face ups look very good, but I have some suggestions. The tear ducts on Mia are filled in with the black eyeliner, and may look more realistic if you made them pink instead (from what I can tell, you did that on Mei). Longer and more full lower lashes, as well as thicker top lashes, might look nice. I love the colors on the lips, but maybe add a darker color in the crease. Like others have said, more blushing (to help fit the dramatic colors you chose for the eyes and lips- if you tone the eyes and lips down, that could also work for a more "natural" face up) and more detailed lining on the eyes and eyebrows would be nice. I also second Mei's eyeshadow being a bit bright, and would add that usually (at least when I do my own makeup) eyeshadow does not match clothes (that can look a bit... strange). Instead, try a color that would compliment the clothes, or go a shade darker.
Of course, those are just my preferences, and they do look great already!

    16. @xxkittymexx Thank you for all the feedback! I recently re-did Mias faceup (it will be attached here somewhere ahah) where I think a few of the issues were addressed, although perhaps the white in the eyes was not the best choice! Her combination of thick resin and narrower eyes makes for some challenges where they can look very shadowed, although a lower dome eye does help here and avoids the gapping issues I had. Perhaps, as you said,a pink would be more suitable than a white here ^^
I am still struggling with the lower lashes but it is something I can certainly practice.

In honesty I neglected the lips and had not considered adding any shadows to creases so that is being added to my list of things to try!

You are probably correct about Meis eyeshadow, I suppose I will find out when I finally dress her ahah! I enjoy doing faceups so I am more than happy to wipe and try again when the weather picks up.

Thank you again, it is good to have a fresh perspective since whenever I do a new faceup I always really love it at first and it probably clouds my judgement haha.

But yes, here is Mias new face (for now!)[IMG]

    17. wow! you really did great considering its your first! congratz!

    18. Very sweet!

I would use the pink cautiously on the lower lid of the doll with half-closed eyes, as it can run the risk of looking like the eyes are inflamed/infected when it's too intense.
