First Time Resin Owner

Jan 16, 2023

    1. Hi all,

I just acquired my first resin doll so I thought I'd join DoA. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions about her...

My first doll is Super Dollfie Mytyl (photo below). I first set eyes on her a year ago. I entered the lottery to "win" her, but was unsuccessful. Fortunately I had second chance when she popped up for sale recently. I've even acquired her cape and bird cage set.

I'm not new to doll collecting... I have [lost count] number of vinyl dolls, mostly Dollfie Dream and Azones. I started with vinyl dolls because I wanted a travel companion for when I worked overseas.

Mytyl's been OK so far. She's sat on a shelf in the windowless hallway looking serene. Her wig slips off so I'll need to get her some sort of wig cap for that. Of course it helps she has a bonnet. It's not a problem I've encountered with vinyl dolls.

I really like her joints and the way she poses. She can be difficult to handle though hence she'll be sitting on the shelf for most of the time. I've resisted the urge to dress her up as Miku, although my senior vinyl Dollfie now insists on wearing Super Dollfie outfits (and she looks fabulous in them).

Does anybody else have Mytyl? I don't know if I'll get any more Super Dollfies. There aren't too many that catch my eye, although I have a soft spot for Mai and there is somebody else on my grail list.

    2. Thank you for sharing your lovely girl. I once had a chance to meet friend's Mytyl, and I'd said that I like her Sdgr body the most among volks SD size dolls.

I only own Volks's Gretel from the same story-line [Journey to the Dream Night]. I tend to have soft spot for doll that have character base on fairytale :XD:

I hope you have a wonderful experience with your girl.

    3. Thanks - yes I really like the SDGr body. It feels reassurringly heavy. I also like how her joints click into place, which is a lot different to vinyl Dollfies.

I keep forgetting her midriff is articulated and that's almost caught me out a couple of times.

I just remembered I also entered the lottery to win SD boy Michelle from the Boys' Dormitory series (but again I didn't win). I just like entering lotteries and buying mystery boxes.

Once Mytyl's birdcage arrives then I will scour the ends of the earth for a 1:3 scale bluebird to put inside it.

    4. She is very pretty! I like that storyline but I've had no success getting any of the dolls - so I will just enjoy looking at them!

    5. Congratulations on your Mytyl!
I find Volks body unstable for posing purpose. Never had SDGr so I’m not sure on it. For my non-Volks doll, sueding is just an option but for Volks I feel that’s necessary. Maybe they are strung looser than other dolls I have? And I totally agree with the clicking sound and the weight:love also to me the smell of new resin doll and the squeaking sound is a kind of satisfaction that I can’t explain with my poor vocabulary!

    6. Congratulations she looks gorgeous! I've had to hold myself back from purchasing Mytyl when I've seen her on sale secondhand, I love her sculpt so much. I hear the SDGR body is the most poseable since it has double jointed knees as well so that's a tempting feature for me also:whee: I have my girl on a SD13 body and I wish it clicked into place as you mentioned.

    7. Congrats, what a beautiful girl! All the SDGr girl are absolutely stunning :D

About the wig issue- for some reason resins just love to have minute size differences between their heads, even from the same company sometimes. *shrugs* I have a handful of resins and three DDs and for whatever reason 8”-9” wigs fit the DDs perfectly every time, while some of my resin dolls are almost incapable of wearing wigs that supposedly match the size of their head >:/

My trick that I’ve been using for 10+ years on my resin dolls is to just stretch a rubberband or two around the wig line/hair line and it works just about as well as a wig cap! I’ve even used the blue rubber bands that are used to bundle vegetables together at the grocery store and I’ve never had any staining or other issues. Hope this helps and I hope you continue enjoying your beautiful new girl!

    8. She’s gorgeous! I also just crossed over from Dollfie Dream into SD. I got Volks Anna about a month ago and just ordered Lieselotte. It was so strange switching from vinyl to resin, but I absolutely adore some of the Volks SD so I doubt I’m done with just my 2!
      Here’s my Anna:)

    9. Anna is such an adorable sculpt. I love this photo, the outfit and everything else!

    10. Mytyl is a beautiful sculpt, congrats on getting her! :aheartbea

I recently got my first resin Volks doll, a coordinate model Byakuren. I feel like I can never go back. I just adore Volk sculpts and I'd love to add more to my collection.

I own both vinyl and resin dolls and honestly I would have to say resin is my favorite. I do love them both, but vinyl does give me a bit of anxiety with the staining.

I'm really interested to see the Disney Ariel Volks release. If she's adorable, which is highly likely, I would love to get her. :aangel:
