I've been searching on-and-off for a year and a bit for a doll head that meets a very specific set of criteria to shell one of my characters: 1/3 scale, round-faced, wide and flat nose, either an angry glare or a confident smirk expression, and small enough to not look weird next to my Doll Chateau Ingemar and his tiny little head. While a few heads looked okay, nothing on the market looked right enough for me to want to buy it. But hey, I'm a professional 2D artist. Why not just teach myself sculpting and do it myself? How hard could it be? Hahahahaha... famous last words. So quite a bit of work later, this is about where I am. Sculpting is hella hard, but I feel like I'm really learning a lot in the process! This is my second serious attempt at this head, and she's been a work in progress for probably half a year but I'm finally starting to like how she looks. She's perching here on a Mirodoll bust piece, since I'm making her to be compatible with a Mirodoll 1/3 girl body. Blurry Side View Looking Up - Blurry Side View Looking Down Since these pics I've added some paperclay to her inside and out, so I can sand it down more easily for a smooth finish (my sandpaper and my sculpey just don't get along.) While she's a personal project, so I'm mostly trying to please myself, I'd love constructive critique about anything that seems off Thanks for taking a look!
that's a good first try! i have seen much worse lol i would say take a look at her jaw line? i mean the space between the ear and the side of the chin/cheekbones, there should be a dip or some sort of definition! a lot of professional doll sculptors seem to miss this one too ps i am from Toronto too xD if you attended local meets or AN we probably have meet
