First faceup

Mar 3, 2020

    1. Did my first ever faceup today! I was determined to do it myself as I'm having fun keeping this hobby as low-budget as possible, so I used what I already had (pastels and watercolour pencils) and only bought the MSC. (Was I reminded why I absolutely loathe working with pastels? Yes, yes I was.)

I was aiming for a not-too-heavy, semi natural look fit for a red-head, with matte lipstick/lip chalk.
Overall I'm rather happy with this, especially for a first attempt. My thoughts are that I should have gone a little heavier on the blushing (and general shading), and perhaps cultivate a steadier hand when it comes to the lipstick. Perhaps more shading there as well?

What do you guys think I could improve upon next time?

    2. Great first faceup!
Not much to critique but seeing that you've got talent.
Work on the lower eyelashes and inner eyelids need a bit more depth with more color. You can also put a little more color on the eyelids toward the nose.
      Lips look great <3
      All in all great work.

    3. Very nice :). I can't say much since I have not attempted a face-up but I think you did well.

    4. I think she looks awesome! :D For the lipstick, you could just apply a few more layers to make it a more consistent color.

And it's just preference, but I personally like lower lashes to go across the whole lower lid; for me, the only-halfway style breaks up the natural flow of what your eye expects, so something looks a little off at first glance.

But the blushing and freckles look really nice! :)

    5. I can't give any advice as I've not tried face ups (they scare me lol) but I think it looks amazing, I like the freckles and lip colour, looks very soft :)

    6. Honestly she looks pretty perfect -- especially her lips! If I had to pick one thing that might need some work, it'd be the eyebrows: they appear light and almost smudgy, but that's me really searching for something to criticize.

    7. Great for the first makeup! :thumbup

    8. Wow, that's an impressive first try! I really have nothing but good things to say about it. I think you nailed the natural look, nice job! :3nodding:

    9. Wow! For a first time you did incredibly. I think the blushing looks good. Only thing that I would have done differently is added more smaller background freckles...but then A. I cant do faceups so who am i to talk lol!! B. I love freckles

    10. That's one of the best first tries at a faceup that I've seen! :D If I had to focus on one thing, I'd say that using heavy, long black lashes on one half of the upper eyelid, but leaving her completely bald on the other half, is a little...jarring, maybe, especially if you're trying to achieve a somewhat natural look? I'd probably be more inclined to use tinier lashes that are made for dolls, all of the way across the lid (you can buy long strips of them cheaply at places like DDE). But working with the tools that one already has on hand is a real challenge, and I think you did a great job!
