First Faceup - Tips and critiques, please!

Jun 10, 2013

    1. Hi everyone! So today I finally got to go to the local Home Depot and pick up a face mask, so I spent the evening working on my first face up. I was pretty happy with it until I started on the eyes >>; Let's just say I'll wait until I get my eyelashes in the mail next time, instead of painting them on haphazardly. Anyhow, I'm still quite satisfied with it, and consider it a pretty good first attempt. :3 All constructive critcism is welcome and strongly encouraged! Thanks in advance for your knowledge and time :)

Sorry for the really bad gaps, I only had 14mm eyes on hand and I need 16mm >> It's a Luts Wintery 2011 head; the character is called Sidney and I'm not sure whether I want this doll to be male or female yet :P

    2. Nice for a first face up! My first was a total disaster. I can't give you any critique because I still suck at face ups!

    3. Thank you! :D Practice makes perfect, I guess haha ~ Good luck in your own endeavours :)

    4. My tips would be

      1) layer the lips a little thiner between coatings to avoid clumping

      2) try lighter, thinner strokes for the bottom eyes lashes. If you look at most faceups they don't have painted upper eye lashes at all.

I would recommend watching a faceup video on youtube (there are many) just to see the steps and motions they take.

      good luck!

    5. I keep finding myself drawn to magnificent eyebrows, and your face-up definitely makes that list! They look really good. It's all personal preference of course, but have you considered eyelashes in a lighter color? To match the brows a bit closer. But I thinkthe dark lashes make Sidney look soft and bold at the same time, if that is your style - keep it up!

    6. Thanks a lot! :D
NoNoNanoon, thanks for both tips, they're very useful! I'll be sure to go check out some videos, I hadn't even realised people did that! :D
Sunkist, thank you so much <3 That's a good idea, actually; they do clash a lot with the eyebrows, it would probably look better if they were at least a bit closer.
