Aesthetics First Face-up on a resin doll

Mar 16, 2021

    1. So I did my very first face-up on my resinsoul Yao. I had to restart once due to trying to do more then I could handle. But I finally have something similar to my inital concept for her. Feedback would be great.

    2. those eyes are awesome.

She looks lovely, especially the blushing. Those colours compliment her skintone nicely.

    3. I think your first resin faceup looks great! And I can’t wait to see more from you <3 I would like to offer some critique (that’s how we all improve!) and since I don’t have the original concept for reference, I’ll just base it off of what I can see right now.

first of all I think your color choices do compliment her very much. I’m quite the sucker for monochromatic color schemes, and I know yours isn’t, but having multiple blues and then adding some pizazz with the purple satisfies that for me!

The thing that sticks out to me the most for area of improvement is how you only used two colors to blush the face and the areas that are blushed. Like I said, I don’t know the original concept for your character but if you were aiming for the blue to be similar to skin, then I would look into layering your colors. Because of our blood vessels and layers of skin, there are lots of colors trapped in there :3 start by identifying that undertone color and building off of that. Artists like Komorebi on Instagram do a great job of that! I recommend checking her page. And the other thing is just the areas on the face you decided to blush. Reference images where blushing appears on the face for a more natural placement!

other than that, like I said I think you did a great job! And you are only gonna get better! Keep practicing and I hope you post more faceups you do in the future <3

    4. Your color choices are really beautiful and I like the shape and placement of all the elements and shading, are you experienced at doing customs on vinyl?

Since the look is very bold and stylized and her eyes are so dramatic, I might go in with a fine brush and some thinned acrylic to smooth out the pencil texture in the lines of the eyelid crease and waterline of the eye.

Do you have any interest in doing applied lashes? Denver Doll sells "Onyx" eyelashes in white if you're looking for a pair to match the wig. I do like how inhuman she looks without.

    5. I have been thinking about white lashes yeah. Thanks for the recomendation.
As for smoothing out the eye, I actually have some guache paints that i could probably use instead. They would wash off easier if i messed up.

Edit: And yes, I have only worked on vinyl before. Resin is a lot easier tbh.

    6. Thank you for the feed back. The oridinal concept used only red and deep blue when doing the faceup. I will work on using more blues for her face next time. I will also keep in mind to look at refference for where the flush on the cheeks go next time. Thank you again. =D

    7. Oh she's lovely! The shading colors work especially well together. That pink/purple shade really adds a feeling of life to the blue base, and that darker blue adds really nice depth.
The lip color looks a bit like she's eaten something and it's staining the corners of her mouth. It works!

    10. Colours are very nice! The only thing I can point out differently is the eyebrows, they blend in with the skin colour a bit. If it's as light as it can go with paint, maybe slightly darkening the area around it? Or maybe a bit of lavender on the bottom since I think I the wigs got a tint of it. It all works together anyway, and you've achieved a pretty alien look for her.

    11. Looks fantastic for your first resin one. I think the constructive technique advice has been properly fulfilled and I now am off to apply @So.Spice advice to my study plans :XD:

Your blushing placement and colors are gorgeous and I am obsessed with the lips,. You've got me curious about her concept art and character as a whole. Just a personal preference of wanting to see the horns lightly blushed too to emphasize the sculpting (or downplay) and make it feel as organic as face

    12. She's such a cutie! Color choices are very good. The above advise is really good. Depth by varying your colors will make quite a change. And as she is otherworldly, you can play with colors and placement more than a human.
White brows are hard. You can try doing them in pastel which will give them an opaque look. Then do a few white hairs in a sharp watercolor pencil to give a little definition. You could give it depth with a few lavender, blue or even gray.
Take your time and have fun with it. Would love to see what you do next.
