Aesthetics First ever faceup: DollChateau Christina

May 23, 2018

    1. this is my first ever attempt at a doll faceup. I used:
      • MSC
      • staedtler watercolour pencils
      • panpastels "pastel" and "painter" sets
      • tamiya gloss in x-22
      • Pearl Ex interference in lavender
      • volks eyelashes
      • elmers white glue
I'm not really happy with the eyebrows, but the colours I had felt too dark and heavy for a pale doll. I'm thinking I might pick up a very very fine paintbrush (just a few hairs) and fill them in with gentle strokes of white and grey acrylic paint.Would love some advice specifically related to that.

My favourite parts are her little pink nose, and the faint glitter in her lip gloss.

Interested in any constructive feedback you have for me! I'm a traditional media painter so some of my skills transfer over alright, but it's a new canvas and toolset so I have a lot to learn. Appreciated!

    2. Your FIRST?!
      Holy cow, it's amazing!
I just started doing face-ups myself so I don't think I can really give you any good advice. ^_^'
However, I will say that using sharp water color pencils works well for drawing eyebrow hairs.
I use a couple different colors or shades to add dimension. :)
I look forward to seeing how you improve from here! <3

    3. Using black and dark colors may be hard. The trick is to paint gradually transparent layers to build up the color. More layers give you more rich and deeper face-up than just using black. Adding a little bit of warm, skin tone blush to black/gray/dark eyebrows is going to give them more realistic look.
With that pink nose she looks indeed very cute. :)Keep up your great work! :thumbup

    4. That's very good advice! I will give that a try in the next revision. :)

    5. I think some of your skill definitely carried over!! She looks stunning!

I think your idea with the eyebrows will definitely help. I really like how you did the blushing on her face. Yeah, I'd just say the eyebrows would need work but you already know lol, can't wait to see the revision!

    6. Beautiful job! The eyes go really well with your faceup!

    7. I think she looks great. I especially love the way you did her eyesbrows and the curve.

    8. Honestly, wow. This to me is like almost artist level. i love the eyeliner and blushing and the lighter lashes gives her a unique look. The one thing(only thing) I thnk you could think about is maybe adding some more individual hairs in the eyebrows.

I braved up and tried filling in her brows. I like them a lot better now, but can still see some places where I can improve.

I've got an IOS Keiji I'm going to try this weekend, so I'll try to apply what I've learned. Thanks for all your feedback, guys!

    10. They look perfect!!! They really suit her face, and I like that you can see the individual strands of hair, but they also look nice and full.

    11. I think she looks really good! Her lips, eyelashes, and eyeliner have to be my favorite parts, I think they look wonderfully dark and bold next to her pale skin.

    12. :love Love it!

    13. This is a great first faceup!! I seriously wouldn't have guessed it was your first. And I'll 2nd what others have said already, that if you're going for dark but not-too-dark, using some warmer tones to help with that can make it not as strong (dark browns, a little red undertone, etc, instead of strictly grey/black).
