Aesthetics First ever face up!

Jul 14, 2017

    1. So I rescued this little, badly treated boy. He had horns, strands of hair and eyes glued on. It was a lot of work to clean out all the glue, especially in the eye sockets..
Then I did a face up for the first time, gave him the attention he needed to turn into the boy he is now; my Ruuki.

Ruuki and Mikan~ Ruuki currently has different, brighter eyes so you can actually see them instead of just being a dark blob.

Please let me know what you think! I already know some things I need to work on, but I'd like to hear your opinions.

    2. I think you did your best to save him and you did it very well. I wish my first face up will be at least half of your work. <3

    3. He's so cute! It's a shame how he was treated before and I'm glad there was no permanent damage from it.

    4. Yeah, me too! There's still a little bit of glue left in his eye socket, but that's not really in the way when putting in eyes so I don't really mind.

Thank you! <3.. I did my best, though I know I can still improve. I bet your first will be just fine as well <3

    5. @Achetarin Thank you! I hope so, but it it´s different to draw on paper and on 3D object... I´m worried I´ll screw it up :D

    6. Well that's certainly an improvement. I love his little eartips.

Did you have specific questions or areas that you wanted critiqued? Were you going for stylized or natural? It's difficult to give feedback without knowing what direction you wish to head in.

    7. I love the fade you've done on his ears! If you're looking for specific areas to improve upon, I would say...hmm, maybe try to sharpen your pencils? I'm not sure how much of his lower eyelashes are a deliberate more clumped "anime look" and how much is the pencils not being sharp enough, but if you're interested in nice, crisp eyelashes (whether they're clumped in groups or not!), sharpen your watercolour pencil and apply in thin, flicking little strokes. (Practice on paper first to get the hang of it!) This also helps for thinner hairs in the eyebrows too. To get the thick look like you have you can apply more hairs, but thinner. Also make sure to vary the angles of the hairs at the inner corners of the eyebrows for a more realistic eyebrow look! (Take note of the eyebrow hairs in the inner corner of this photo:

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.co...2d45f34d54c9c2--bold-eyebrows-thick-brows.jpg Notice how they sort of "criss cross", and they're a little angled and sparse at the very edges? Doing this on the doll gives it a very realistic, feathery look.)

    8. What sculpt is he! He turned out so beautiful and the face up you gave him is amazing. I really like him very much

    9. He's cute, I'm glad you were able to get all that off of him without permanently damaging him. He would be even cuter with some freckles, but I think he's already adorable uvu
