Wearables First dreadlock wig

Feb 4, 2016

    1. The past few days I've been working on a dreadlock wig for the latest doll I got. It's the first time I try something like that. Eventhough it's not perfect I still learned a bunch of things while making it. I'm probably gonna make a new one anyway. So here are some pictures of the result.

    2. Oh wow! This is lovely! Really intricate i imagine to make. I would love to see more of this stuff

    3. Did you start from scratch or from another premade wig?
What materiel is the wig? If homemade, did you make the dreads first and then glue them on?

Very neat- thanks for sharing! I might need to try this someday. (:

    4. Just what i was thinking, i want to do a voodoo/tribal custom and this kind of thing would look amazing

    5. Very nice!

    6. This wig is really stunning, and the way you styled it looks great! Good work & I hope to see more of these~ You really pulled it off quite nicely.

    7. @KuroIbara Thanks!! :whee: yeeeah it wasn't really easy xD sometimes I was close to giving up. But I'm happy I finished it, even though it's not perfect.
Sounds interesting! My doll is going to be themed tribal like. But I still got to sew clothes.
btw thanks for the follow >///w///<

Thanks for asking @Maritime I should have thought of including the materials I used in this thread.
I made this wig from scratch. I had to make a wig cap which was a bit of an improvisation, since at first I had wanted to glue the dreads on a hard wig cap (those you can make out of glue) but I decided otherwise. I basically just took the tip of an old sock folded the border up a bit and sewed it up with an elastic in it.
The dreadlocks were made also by myself. I used Kanekalon hair (synthetic, heat-resistant fiber). I used this videos help to make them. Though, it might be a bit dangerous so be careful whenever you try that out.
Then I sewed the dreadlocks onto the wig cap, which was quite randomly done to be honest. Whatever made the dreads hold onto the wig cap XD I still need to figure out a proper way how to do that, but for now it worked.
When I figured out a more "professional" way how to do this wig, I might make a tutorial ^^

      @Zenna Thank you! :XD:

    8. @3LittleClouds
Easy to follow instructions, thanks for the link! Great work.
I don't have any experience in wig making myself so I don't trust myself to critique your work, but it's wonderful. (:

    9. Nice job! I wish there were more options out there for dreadlock wigs. Yours looks really good xD

    10. Awesome job! I love dreadlocks and would definitely be interested in a 'locked wig in the future. How well does this one you made hold other styles like a higher pony tail or hanging unbound and such?

    11. @Maritime You're welcome and Thanks again :whee:

@mirrorcle_world Thanks~!! :danceI saw a few people who made custom dreadlock wigs but I'm not even sure if they still make them. As for bjd companies, I believe I've never seen dreadlock wigs being sold. It's kind of a pity :(

@CollectiveEntity Thank you!! Actually the dreads were sewn onto the wig cap to stay styled like this, so I'm not able to style this wig differently, like for example a ponytail. Though it could be interesting to work on a dreadlock wig that has a ponytail.

    12. Ohh I see I see, very interesting. It still looks wonderful though!
If you decide to give it a go i would love to see it!

    13. I really like the style of this! It captures the idea of dreadlocks and looks very neat. Great job.

One thing that takes away from the illusion IMO is the doubled up lock in the back center of the wig. Maybe cover it up with another single strand? Or add a few new strands at various places to make it a little less neat and uniform?

    14. @fourmist Thanks!!
Yeah, I know it's a bit distracting. I can't really add any more dreads to it since the wig cap is already densely packed with them ^^' but I'll try to make a new wig with dreads that are less thick.

    15. The wig looks really good! What I also really like is your doll. I haven't seen any dolls with smaller eyes like that. I've new to BJD. Could you please tell me where the doll is from?

    16. I love this hairstyle and I'm so glad to see it done here!

    17. Looks great for first time doing dreds. The next one should be fantastic.
