First BJD - The Déesse/Deyès Project - a curvaceous goddess!

May 11, 2015

    1. Hello everyone! :) Thank you for coming into my thread!

I have finally decided to post this project, as I have been really unmotivated to work on it lately. Just a small background: I have been modding dolls for a while, like my Mermaid Tail project Here and Octoman Here and Kirin Project Here, and was too scared to tackle a big project like this. I have mostly SD sized dolls and decided to go with SD for my first doll. I soon realized maybe I should have started smaller :sweat

      Anywho, here are the sketches!

This is her face. It's kind of based off my ideal woman's face. Big lips, bright eyes, CHEEKBONES!!

And the body. I actually ended up sculpting even more curvaceous than this, but here she is:

The joints will be single mostly.

Interestingly enough, I started with the lower torso. And the clay kept piling on :D she has a pretty ample backside now!

And an ample bosom to match:

I am in the process of carving the breasts down. The current shape is not natural! I do want it to look good when she has clothes on, so not fully natural but not torpedoes :D

I also started the head in LaDoll Premier, but I am not sure how I like using it. It's a little too soft vs the Apoxie.

I hope to post more in the coming days! I have been reworking the breasts over and over and over.

    2. I like the shape of her belly, and the exaggerated hipbone. Really curious how she'll balance with all that breast and booty, haha, hopefully they cancel each other out

    3. Lovely designs, and I admire a lot the bold proportions! I wish there were more bjds like that! For the breasts, are you thinking of a braless shape? In any case the bigger problem I see is not the size as much as the fall. Even with a push up bra, breasts grow with a gentle fall from the collarbone. Example http://fullerfigurefullerbust.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/36h16anise1.png

Even with a push up bra there's a section below the collarbone that falls down flat before it! Same can be said for the butt, there's always a descending slope outwards with a softer angle. Think of the bones underneath!

      I'm naturally big chested(/booty-ed?) so I have a personal interest in the topic lmao sorry if this was too meddlesome I go on auto u_u;;;;

    4. Thank you very much for your comments!

Dissipation, I am curious about the balance too! It is not my strong point in sculpting, and in real life. I did make some ball joints for the thighs, and tested out to see if she could semi-balance on them and it kind of works. Hopefully the full bust and some big feet will help.

I am pretty big chested and busted too, Varebanos, so I wanted to make someone who looked like me! Too bad I don't have the abs and the waist, haha!
Thank you for the tip about the breasts! I reworked mine because the shape is off, and I also made the neck too wide. Unfortunately the apoxie would take forever to carve down so I gave up and built a new base. Once that dries, I will start over and find a good reference! I keep forgetting, they're like teardrops, not bowling balls!

I did add more to the butt, to look more like Serena Williams' posterior: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/10/05/article-1317788-0B7BCBDE000005DC-121_468x650.jpg (not NSFW but in case no one wants to see here in a bikini :D

I will pose some photos this weekend! Everything is drying and I would hate to drop it before it's cured.

    5. That body is amazing. I am now prepared to stalk this thread.

    6. GLYNDON!!! HIIII!!! I want to see Fusilli!!

I started the legs, and part of the arms, and I made a whole new bust but I loved the old one more, so I will be dremeling the heck out of the old one! At first I was carving the shape down, with AN XACTO ugh (is there a better carving knife? the apoxie is soooo hard) but now it looks like this:

      [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I marked off the places I have to grind down, they are too big. I also have to work more at carving the shape of the individual breasts. I don't even want to post the other bust photos.

Then I added more to the buttocks and pelvic area to balance it out. The butt now is rounder on the bottom, and I made ball joints that sit mostly flush in there. I also made separate upper leg parts that I'll connect to the ball joints once I drill the holes in them (in green).

      The butt:

(sorry that hairbrush is everywhere - it's my doll hairbrush)

ANNNDDD I started the head. Kind of. I made a base that I could build on top of. Kind of like my own Jungatoy base.

That's it for now! I've been beating myself up for not touching her all week, but it's been a tough week.

    7. What is your secret to such round hip joints? I have to rework all of mine and you have magic of some kind.

(Fusilli's creation is actually on here somewhere. I'll start updating again soon.)

    8. It's not magic! I sculpted them on top of round foam balls, then put on a layer of apoxie sculpt, trimmed the excess, doused the apoxie in water and rolled the balls around in my palms as if I were making meatballs until they smoothed out enough. Then I cut the bottom of the foam out so I could lay them on my desk and added more water and did more palm smoothing.

    9. Yup, magic. I will try it, though.

    10. She has a face!! I started working on the head:

And then started carving the shapes in.

I kind of liked the before more haha - but maybe it's because it was smooth.

    11. I see what you mean. I wonder if her lips didn't get sharpened a bit too much? The slope of the lips into the face looked very natural in the "before" shot (that bottom lip is made of love). The sharpening was spot-on for her cheekbones, though. Her nose is magnificent both pre and post sharpen.

    12. You're right, I did overdo it! I reworked it a bit tonight with more clay. We'll see when it dries but so far I like it more.

Edit to add: Updated the face! And put her with the body to see if she looked in scale. I have to rework the top still and grind down the breasts for a redo but so far so good!

    13. Some updates: I realized as much as I love Apoxie sculpt, maybe I shouldn't have made the legs and ball joints with it. It is ridiculously tough to carve and my poor little dremel only works for 20 minutes at a time before I need to recharge the battery. So, I'll be ordering some more LaDoll Premier to work on the limbs and ball joints. I'm also going to fuse the top of the chest with the bottom torso and make a junk cast of it (maybe slush casting to make it thin enough), then carve the chest joint a little lower than I've made it.

I did some more carving and sanding around the head too:

      Also - ears started!

    14. She is amazing.

    15. She looks gorgeous!

    16. Thank you both!! I've been trying to look up other ways to make a junk cast, because resin and silicone is so pricey and it'll be a big piece. I might just try one more time to sculpt a new upper torso, even though I adore the one I already sculpted.

I could also just make her as a one piece torso :D

    17. Update: primed her in brown to see what she would look like, and to see what needs fixing. So far I have pinpointed a few places, so sanding, reshaping it is!

    18. Are you going to hollow out her mouth and give her removable teeth????

    19. Close! Not removable, but I wanted to give options to either paint or not paint teeth in. I have to carve her bottom lip in a bit more, but something like a Dia's teeth.

    20. Holy moly. If this is your first BJD, how are you so AMAZING? And it looks like you're sculpting her so effortlessly. I just love what you did with the face - and the butt of course. Those cheekbones and upper lip are just gorgeous. I am looking forward to seeing more of your process! ♥

    21. Hi Sicktress!!!!
Back on here after a very long time of being away, and Im glad to see you! She is looking wonderful, you know Im a huge fan :)

I cant believe the progress you have made, she is really coming along!

    22. Hello tekkonkinkreet! Thank you so much! I have done a few things and hope to post more photos soon, I started the hands and feet but they look utterly ridiculous to me since they're mostly blobs. More is coming :D

Liz, it's great to hear from you! You are a *huge* inspiration and I'm so glad that you like her! You should come here more often!

    23. Restarted the legs, an arm and a foot, respectively:

Anndddd started sanding and fixing the head. Sanding sucks!

    24. First pass of grey primer:

I have to sand some more and make her more even, and sand the hairline. And work on the neckhole T_T and the ears, and the headcap...

    25. Her thighs! I feel love.

    26. Keep going she's looking beautiful! Make sure you smooth the connection of the ears into the face, they look a bit stuck on right now. :3

    27. I really like her face, she looks kind
Good luck, sanding and correcting everything is long, but it's worth it :)

    28. I sanded her all nicely yesterday, and then put on too much primer T_T so I had to remove it and go back to square one. Hopefully I can re-prime her tonight.

    29. The more I see her the more I want to paint one.

    30. @sicktress Yeah I do that all the time, its so easy to do. I find with really small (jewelry grit) sand paper that you can remove just the excess

    31. So I am still working on her but she's getting closer! I need to fix her eyes, and her ear connection bits, and other stuff:

And I tried a wig on her because I realized I didn't even check what size her head was! Luckily a 9-10 fit:

    32. And guess who has a junk cast for me to work on?

      This girl!

Update: started refining the inside of the head, and the S-hook holder part thingy.

Once that's dry, I'll sand it smoother and the face (whoops, I got a little sloppy!)

More updates: got the resin samples from Haru Casting! So far I'm liking the dark tan the most, but sadly it doesn't match Impldoll's dark tan, which is what I wanted to go with color-wise. But, Haru does resin matching too! The plot thickens...

Headcap is Impldoll, resin samples are Haru's:

I might just go with Haru's dark tan, and make some sort of sample that people can send to the company of their choice. I have a specially made BJD-sized coconut that I can use for this. Why a coconut, you ask? It has something to do with the sculpt name... more on that later!

    33. She is just absolutely fantastic! I love the way you've handled her curves. Beautiful work :D

    34. Thank you very much! I'm still plugging away on her insides but she should be done soon!
