Hi the Joints! After a few months out of time to sculpt, I made my bjd styrofoam bases..so yesterday i began to sculpt my first bjd head in paperclay. Approximately two years ago I tried to sculpt a Bjd body, and was so hard that I never finished, so hopefully this time I can finish the doll! This head will be for a 65 cm doll ^^ First I tried to cover the paperclay skeleton with brown polymerclay, and when i started, i hated to sculpt in polymer a huge head, so i and ended up with a dirty base =T. Few hours after adding the clay and drying the parts with a heat gun, I had some progess .. after trying to fix some symmetry problems.. And, finally, after 8 hours of work, i have a decent head.. now I only have to do some detailling, his ears and some details on lips! Unfortunately I do not have time to sculpt, so I hope to finish the head in the end of next week, first i need to buy some primer xD.. I hope you enjoy, and sorry for so many pics and awful english ^^ Hugs Icaro
Hey, that's one of the best first attempts I've ever seen. XD He's very handsome. Symmetry could use some work though. Make your life easier and don't prime until everything is done... Paper clay doesn't stick to primer, it just slides off so it's best to keep it to last.
hey Jphobia... thanks for words n the primer tip xD Yesterday I lost some more time working on the head which turned into a vampire, his name is Jeremiah. Unfortunately the finished head is very small, and now I have two options: 1. try to make a resin reproduction and buy a small body (any suggestions?- his head haveless than 3 inches high), or 2. keep the head without a body as a โsculpt aidโ (better name for a floating head) , since sculpt a body for him is not an option... For now I will improve his eyes n ears and maybe finish the back of the head .. At least I have learned how to use clay to sculpt an how symmetry is HARD!! Next week Iโll start to sculpt another head, a bit larger this time ^ ^ Thank you and until next update!
Wow, he's beautiful. I vote on making him his own body, he's incredible for your first try! Mega impressed
Oh wow, he's so much more beautiful now. It's a shame he doesn't fit on a pre-existing doll body. Take it in whichever direction you want; I'd love to see you sculpt a body with your style and skill but I'd also love to see it on an SD.
I'm impressed. He looks really good. Is he going to get a teeth part, since his mouth is open? If you really love this head, I'd say have it cast in resin and look for a body. There are more "in between size" dolls produced these days.
hi guys thanks *-* As im relative new into Bjd world i'm not sure what body will fit this head, so i decided to sculpt a display torso and cast in resin.. for now i just need to sculpt the torso... I think more 1 week n i will have him in resin xD Arabidopsis yes, he have a teeth part fixed n the back of his head.. i just need to sand a lil more and then i'll upload some pics, now with teeth ^^ hugs
Hello guys! I decided to leave to sculpt the torso of a display for the near future... Yesterday I started to sculpt a new head, a lil bit bigger than the previous one, but the same character .. I did not take photos of the previous steps because they are the same as before XD I hope finish it soon ^ ^ all critique is welcome.. thanks
That first head is amazing for a first head! A trick I learned on here is to put the face up to a mirror- it helps your eyes notice any thing that isn't symmetrical ^^ I agree, when your ready a body with your skills would be awesome to see I also really love your second head, that profile!!
hi guys, new updates.. Almost in the end, i'm not loving this head because his is totally assymetrical and im not in the mood to fix him, sooo one more floating unfinished head in my bedroom xD and yesterday i started a cute big head blythe like just to improve my skills, and now im kinda loving her ^^ now im going to start another head haha see u soon
this child fairy head is adorable! you sure are a very creative person ) but you shouldn't give up on your guys, first of all they are handsom boys, second of all I found out with my first doll that you learn a lot when you actually finish the doll to the point when it is done and assembled.
Such great sculpting skills. *u* I would like to see the progress on how you will be fixing him in the future--if that's ok with you. Do you saw the face up and stick the parts back together?
hello Joankagami! to fix a little bit his nose n mouth asymmetry, I just cut them with a x-acto knife.. next using paperclay and water i put the nose more in the center xD This time I also shortened the nose a bit.. After dry, with clay water and sandpaper i hope to end up with the marks. . I think the pictures explain better.. next ill fix his eyes and jaw line ^^
A small update xD I think he's almost good now.. i'm happy with headshape and his nose, now i just need to work on his eyes and mouth/teeth, and then his headback and ears.. yeah, a lot of work ^^ omg, i think if someday i decide to sculpt a body i will need at least 3 years to finish something =X
Oh yeah! Batchix was talking about something that... expands larger than your original cast... Maybe that could help with your size problem http://www.denofangels.com/joints/showthread.php?2753-Batchix-WIPs-D-New-post&highlight=batchix
