66cm+ Dolls First attempts at Blender doll

May 26, 2022

    1. So I've made dolls in clay, before, but I felt like I needed to really try using Blender for my future doll projects, simply because of the cost of materials and time and the space needed to sculpt by hand. This is the head I started, with my first time every working in the program, just to get the hang of the program. I still don't know wtf I'm doing a lot of the time (Why do spikey balls of death keep appearing in my geometry??? I've spent HOURS deleting extra vertices, and they KEEP. APPEARING when I try to do certain things! It's INFURIATING!) but I've gotten far more done in the short amount of time that I've been working on this than I ever did when I was sculpting with clay in the same amount of time!

Not shown here: When the head spent a brief period of time in the very VERY early stages, looking sort of like Mads Mikkelsen. The first screenshot I DID save reminds me a bit of Robin Williams, though.

Then, it transitioned a little into looking like Garrett Hedlund.

And now, after many more hours of working on it, and a brief heartbreaking moment when I thought Blender crashed without me saving all the work I'd done, only to discover that there was an in-built autosave features, it looks like this. (I...can't figure out how to rotate it so that it's sitting upright when viewed from the side. :sigh Again, I still don't know AT ALL what I'm really doing. Oh well.)

I do plan on working on a body for them, which was the entire reason for doing this in the first place. I want to make a plus-sized mature male body, to be the Aziraphale to my Crowley from Good Omens, who's my SSDF Abadon. The head, though, is just me doodling around to teach myself how to do the thing. At this point, it looks like I'll need to invest in a 3D printer. :sweat As if this hobby wasn't expensive enough as it is!

I still have to put ears on them, and do the neck socket, headcap, and hollow out the head, but after the terror of thinking I'd lost all the work between images two and three this morning, I'm fracking DONE for the day! :XD:
