Eyes First Attempt at Resin Eyes!

Jun 17, 2020

    1. I'm having a good time, though I definitely have a lot to learn!! I'm using pre-made silicone molds for the eye base and white two-part resin, for the clear dome I'm using Miraclekoo UV Resin, which cures really fast with a UV lamp, I'm really impressed with it!

I used mod podge to secure down the irises....this was a bad idea... maybe I just didn't wait long enough for it to fully dry. Some of them lifted when the resin cured, and it left a white residue in the first 3 I made (because I put a lot of mod podge in, thinking it would be clear). I'm going to try another glue and more patience!

    3. Thank you so much! ^_^

    4. These are already waaaay better than my first attempts at eyes, they look fantastic! Wonderful work, I can't wait to see what you make in the future!

    5. Aside from very few air bubbles, they look AMAZING! :loveThe colour variety is gorgeous!

    6. Ahh thank you!! ^_^ I love your icon, what an elegant galaxy kitty!

Thank you! :D I had fun with the colors! Hope to do some black sclera next.

    7. Made even more eyes! :D I'm learning things, I kept having trouble with various glue reacting to the resin (the glue I was using to glue down the pupil) so I decided to just use a dab of UV resin to secure the pupil, cure, then add more to complete the dome, this solution has been working great, and is faster than waiting for the glue to dry! (Important for me, a very impatient crafter lol)

    8. THESE ARE EVEN BETTER :love:love:love YOU QUALITY IMPROVED SO MUCH!

    9. <3 <3 Thank you! I'm making pretty good progress! Especially with not messing up the iris lol. My next step is to really work on getting all the air bubbles out, I've been following the advice to try to light a match to draw the bubbles to the top and pop them, but it seems more tiny ones appear out of nowhere when the uv lamp turns on..

    10. Really nice job! I tried to make a dome on top of the iris but I see that you are covering whole eye base with resin. Need to try that! How do you handle them?

    11. Hello! :) I actually am just making the dome on the iris, the white part of the eye is shiny just because the resin came out of the mold that way, it is a very smooth mold. Sometimes it accidentally spills over onto the side of the eye, then I just try to clean it up with a napkin corner a bit. But if you were putting resin on the sides, I would say just keep them in place where you apply the resin and move the lamp over them, until they cured!

    12. You're doing a great job with these! I really like your color choices and the pearls you've used for pupils--that's a great effect. The gold on green in #22 is a lovely color combo, and I'm particularly fond of that pair!

    13. Thank you! :D I like gold and green too-- Loki colors!

    14. Oh wow! I ordered some moulds from aliexpress and they aren't coming out as glass like. Can't wait to see more ❤️

    15. These look great! I really like the ones with pupils; they glow with inner warmth

    16. I ordered mine from amazon, they were cheap and good quality, but they came in only limited sizes, there's just one 14mm and two 16mm, the rest are larger, so not as useful for most BJDs, I would have liked to have an 8mm and 12mm. I found a seller on Etsy in Canada who makes nice-looking eye molds, I may order those soon :)

Thank you! :D I like the shiny/metallic pupils too, they capture light and depth and don't make the iris seem as dark as with the black pupils.

    17. Congratulations on your progress! It's always so exciting to learn something new, isn't it? :D I'm loving the colors you're getting here. How are you coloring them, by the by? I wind up using a lot of nail polish, personally, getting ready to try doming the eyes with UV resin too :shudder which I've never worked with before XD Regardless! Great job and please keep us posted :aheartbea

    18. They look fantastic! Modge Podge probably didn't work because it's water based and uncured resin and water don't get along. I love your photos too! So pretty!

    19. These are really good, and your skills seem to improve very quickly! You can be proud of yourself! Such pretty eyes.

    20. Wow, your first and second results are much better than mine. I’m learning too. I found that my first bases had a few bubbles I missed but I used them anyway to practice. I have been experimenting with when to add glitter and other sparkles between the us resin. I also had some of my domes spill over and I didn’t notice until it was too late to fix. I think I need to work in a brighter atmosphere. I bought the molds off Amazon too and a couple from Etsy. I really liked to see your results. I hope you will post more.

    21. Your colors are so rich and vivid! I love them! And amazing improvement! Is there a video or a place where one can learn how to make these? What does one begin to search?

    22. There are several on YouTube.
