Aesthetics First attempt at blushing

Jun 9, 2017

    1. I've just finished a partial face-up (only kept the original eyebrows) and attempted body blushing for the first time. I tried to go for a very stylised look to keep in with the dolls original aesthetic (and to hide my lack of talent and skill!). I also tried to give the nails French tips, you can see how well that worked

I kept the eyebrows because I like the original expression. I promise the eyes are in straight, the sculpt is slightly asymmetrical. Also I'm really sorry, I'm colour blind. Please let me know if the colours are wrong!

    2. Wow so cute!! Also colours look right!!

    3. You've absolutely nailed it! :D She's super cute and those colours look great. Really natural. The only advice I can give is perhaps try using a thinner brush with the very tips of the nails (though that may be difficult given the size of the doll anyhow).

    4. So cute! I love freckles, and this just NAILS the freckle love :) only recommendation I have is more smaller, fainter freckles, if you can, like the big bold ones are great, but there are always smaller ones in the background (idk if I'm just missing them though cause my computer colors are off tbh so I miss some things)

    5. Well for a first time you absolutely nailed it! I think the only real flaw is that the freckles are a liiiiittle too harsh, but really just a little bit. Other than that it's really good!

    6. Sorry, there are some smaller freckles there! I think my camera may have thrown it out a bit, they're more blended in person. Thank you!

    7. don't apologize! I know my computer screen is wonky, don't worry about it :)

    8. Oh, this is so cute!! I love all the freckles.

    9. You did a really great job!!!!!!!

    10. I think you did such a great job! I feel like you really nailed the natural freckle look, especially for such a tiny little one. <3 I really love the freckles on the hands. Super cute~. Great job! ^^

    11. Very nice! The colors you used are perfect, both for the blushing and for the freckles. I do think the freckles aren't random enough, though, especially on the arms and legs. Did you paint them on one by one, or flick paint off a toothbrush? The toothbrush method is really great for true randomness that looks natural, and a bit of a time saver too. But it would be hard to control freckle density on a doll this small so I can understand if you did them all by hand. Anyways, it does look great and is so cute!

    12. I love the natural tones- they really work with the aesthetic of the doll.

    13. I painted them one by one, I tried the paintbrush method but some of the freckles ended up a little too out of scale (and that's saying something with how large I do them!) I think the doll's just a bit too small for it unfortunatly, it's just under 4 inches

    14. I have been wanting to try freckles for a long time now and never had a chance yet to do it. I like how you changed the shading to each one, some darker and others lighter. This is how real life freckles are and gives depth and texture. I also love the pattern from nose to cheeks. That is my favorite way I hope to do freckles on my doll and in real life girls with that style are super cute.

    15. This is so great and I love the freckles you did!! The only thing I would say is maybe apply the bright red color a bit more subtly, but otherwise it is awesome.

    16. Agreed with everyone else here, you really nailed this! The freckles are gorgeously done. I find a lot of the popular ways artists draw/paint freckles tend to look strange on dolls, but this looks effortless and natural, like she's been cultivating those little dots on her skin her whole life! I must say they're impressively random for being hand-painted too, lots of new artists tend to want to clump them uniformly. The only critique I would have is the french tips. What did you use? For such a tiny, tiny doll, I would honestly use an extremely sharp white watercolour pencil, wet it, and then rub off some of the excess water so you're just left with a "damp" pencil that still has a sharp tip. You'll need something with a lot of control for those tiny fingers. :)

    17. Oh they look really nice! I just love freckles on dolls, but I don't really dare to try it yes as I'm afraid I'll screw them up.

    18. Oh my gosh she is sooo cute! I love it! The freckles are perfect!

    19. I love what you have done here! My only comment is that colorwise you seem to have used the freckle colour to blush the small of the back, and it is the only blush spot that is that colour. <3
