Knitting Fine Knit Sweater for 4.4" Pukipuki

This is a short-length sweater knit from the top down with 1 ply of embroidery floss.

This sweater fits a CP/Fairyland PukiPuki but it might fit other tiny BJDs (ball jointed dolls), too. Pukipukis have a 2.25” chest circumference and a 1.25” shoulder-to-wrist length. This pattern is easy to alter: just add or subtract rows to the yoke and sleeves for a bigger or smaller sweater. The sweater is worked from the neck down in one piece. Stitches are divided at the armholes for the sleeves. Sleeves are knitted flat or can be knit in the round, if you prefer. The sleeve seams are the only seams in this sweater. After the sleeves are done, the sweater body is worked in one piece to the hem. The original sweater length is short but you can make the sweater any length. The front and neck borders are added last. Working the neckband last helps pull in the cast-on stitches that stretched during knitting.

Tiny knitting is slower than “regular” knitting, so take your time. A hands-free magnifier and good lighting are highly recommended for knitting at this scale.



Starting at the neck, cast on 27 stitches.

Row 3: K2, (incr in next 2 sts, k5) 3 times, incr in next 2 sts, k2. (35 sts)
Row 5: K3, (incr in next 2 sts, k7) 3 times, incr in next 2 sts, k3. (43 sts)
Row 7: K4, (incr in next 2 sts, k9) 3 times, incr in next 2 sts, k4. (51 sts)
Row 9: K5, (incr in next 2 sts, k11) 3 times, incr in next 2 sts, k5. (59 sts)
Row 11: K6, (incr in next 2 sts, k13) 3 times, incr in next 2 sts, k6. (67 sts)
Row 13: K7, (incr in next 2 sts, k15) 3 times, incr in next 2 sts, k7. (75 sts)

Separate knitting to work sleeves:
K 29 sts (front side and one sleeve) CO 5 sts, TURN. P 25 sts. CO 5 sts, TURN. (30 sleeve sts)
Place the 9 front side sts on a safety pin or stitch holder.
Working in st. st. on sleeve sts only, decr. 1 st each edge at 1/4th inch and ½ inch from armhole cast-on sts. (26 sts) Work until sleeve measures ¾ inch from armhole cast-on sts, ending with a right-side row.
K 4 rows. BO in k st. Sew sleeve seam.

With right side facing, attach 1 ply of floss to back section. K across back and second sleeve, with 9 sts remaining for front side. Place front side sts on safety pin or stitch holder.
CO 5 sts, TURN. P 25 sts, CO 5 sts, TURN. (30 sleeve sts) Place back sts on safety pin or stitch holder. Work second sleeve as first sleeve.

With right side facing, k across front side, picking up 6 sts across armhole, k across back, pick up 6 sts across armhole, k across front side. (51 sts) (P 1 row. K 1 row) 2 times. K 4 rows. Bind off in k st.

With right side facing, pick up about 14 sts along front edge. K 4 rows. BO in k st. Repeat for second front edge.

Collar: With right side facing, pick up about 24 sts along neck edge. K 2 rows. BO in k st.
Weave in ends. Block sweater. Add buttons, if desired.
