U.S. #00 000 needles/U.K. size 20/metric 1mm 1 ply DMC embroidery floss 22 sts/inch 30 rows/inch Abbreviations: BO – bind off CO – cast on decr – decrease incr – increase k – knit p - purl st/s – stitch/es st st – stockinette stitch Starting at bottom edge of left leg: CO 24 sts. K 4 rows. P 1 row. Work st st for ½”, ending with a p row. Next row: Incr 1 st each side. (26 sts) Work st st until 3/4” from CO sts, ending with a p row. Next row: Incr 1 st each side. (28 sts) Work st st until 1” from CO sts, ending with a p row. Next row: Incr 1 st each side. (30 sts) Work st st until 1 1/8” from CO sts, ending with a p row (about 5 rows after last incr). Crotch shaping: BO 4 sts, k across. (26 sts) BO 2 sts, p across. (24 sts) Work st st until 1/2” from first crotch shaping row, ending with a p row. Short rows for back of pants: K 10, sl 1, turn. Note: For hobbit-like pants, cast on 30 sts. K 4 rows and work even in st st for 5/8”. Work crotch shaping and finish pants as written.
