Finally in DoA

Jul 16, 2023

    1. Hello!

A rare male doll collector here. I've been in the hobby for 10+ years now, and just never noticed that you could join doa without the invite. Seriously, is that a new thing or have I been missing out for years?

As a goth I'm mostly into darker looks on dolls, but recently I've been dipping my toes to the pink and frilly side.

For a few years I was more into fashion doll lines than bjd, because money was scarce. Now that I finished my studies I'm back to the land of resin and vinyl. All my bjd are SD size, but after learning to enjoy fashion dolls I feel like I'm ready to try msd (or even smaller) again.

Unfortunately my dear friend passed last year, after which I've had no-one to talk dolls about. So feel free to shoot a message, especially if you're 20-30 y.o. and/or european.

    2. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I hope you are able to enjoy the community here and make new good friends in time
Male doll collectors might be a technical minority but you will see there are plenty of others here!
I don't remember how long ago the invite only system changed to open registration... But I think a few years. Glad you can register now! I hope you have fun.

    3. Thank you so much!
I feel like the amount of male collectors has definitely increased during the last couple of years. Or maybe we've just stopped hiding?

    4. Not sure @vampyyri ;) but it's always good to have a more diverse community. I think once a demographic becomes more visible then others of the same demographic are more likely to feel welcome and perhaps that's part of it.

    5. {waves from London} Plenty of us male doll collectors here.

I'm the opposite of you, however, in that I seldom dip my toes into the darker/goth side of things. I have one goth doll and all the rest are sweet little children. That does mean they (or used to) stand out like a sore thumb at doll meets among all the goth and emo dolls tht predominated when I nfirst started going to meets. The balance seems to have shifted a bit since those days.

I wasn't aware there was an invitate-only setup on DoA. I've been here for seventeen years and, as far as I remember, I just signed up when I happened across the forum...

    6. Hello Teddy!
Haha you're right, goth and emo dolls used to absolutely everywhere!
If I remember correctly DoA started out as free to register and then changed to invite only because of scammers and such. The invite only system was used at least 10-12 years ago when I first got into the hobby. I couldn't get in, but that was fine since Finland used to have an active forum of our own (-: The forum still stands, but is a lot less active nowadays.

    7. That's a shame.

      Teddy
