Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Kadaj DIM Minimee (9 imgs)

Jul 28, 2025

    1. Very repetitive photos of my recently repainted Kadaj Minimee. He doesn't have a body of his own and is not proportionately accurate on this body. However, the reason I took such repetitive photos of him, is because I suck! Lol! I also need to replace my Mano's elastic, as that is the body this HS is borrowing in these. I kind of don't want to but I'll need to get some eventually.

I feel there is something off, besides his wig, but I can't really tell what. I haven't compared him well enough with the few terrible screen-shots there are on the internet of Kadaj's. I had a folder of his on my drive, with scans from the film's artbook and from my blu-ray of the film. However, my pc crashed a few times, so I lost a lot of data. T__T;; I don't know where in my hoarder's closet my book stashed in. I recall there was a decent, but tiny photo of Kadaj that we used to submit to DIM as main reference, if I am not mistaken. I haven't found that online, as of yet. I want to have a more accurate Kadaj, but not if it means I don't have a clearer, full-frontal face reference. DX

Bald shots: I need to fix his lashes (story of my life!). I like this style of lash, they are super fluffy and full but so freaking long! I need to shove them more than halfway up his eyeholes. Lol! his irises look massive because I dind't do a good job placing the lashes in. They are kind of massive for what Kadaj's irises are supposed to be, but not as much as they appear, due to the lashes getting in the way. The artist that made this eyes for me is no longer making custom eyes (if she's around anymore), the irises were painted in PS by my bff and I still have the file saved, so I could make more, if only I didn't hate resin eyes...these are a poly-resin, not sure how they are different form PU resin, but the sclera is still as white as ever. The irises or gloss are okay, but one or both seem to be peeling? I don't know if that's how they were when I got those. Can't recall anymore.

    2. I think it’s the eyes @Enzyme. They’re too open, the lower part is too rounded. Kadaj had a very sneaky, sneering expression a lot of the time. The eyes themselves are also too dark a green. Also maybe extend the eyebrows a touch.
Have a look on Pinterest if you have it, there’s a few screenshots on there…..I typed in FF Advent Children Kadaj and it brought some up.
I did have quite a few images on my old computer of Kadaj but that PC is defunct or I’d have tried to dig them out for you.

He’s still looking pretty good though :)

    3. I feel like the eyes were the part I "hand-traced-in-photoshop" from the photo in the AC art book. I recall we did have those modified at least once, so they are probably the right shape. Although, I do know that Kadaj makes a lot of crazy faces in the film, mostly angry or insane-looking facial expressions, he's a heavy melodramatic character. Making his eyes appear sharper most of the time, but from the few side, profile or just extreme frontal captures I was able to find, I believe his eyes are the right shape. Maybe not the right size (perhaps a smidge too big. but it could just be the upper-eye-lid, or just the eyeballs). The eyeballs themselves are huge, but the irises are too large for the eye-opening to be accurate. The colors were picked from one of the extreme close ups of his eye in the film, so the colors are accurate, but these photos were taken with my "older" cellphone that takes "fancier" colored photos. My BFF calls them dramatic shots, because they are always exaggerated in shadows and colors. Nothing like IRL, although the eyes are saturated, not quite as emerald green, and they do have some cyan in there, since the colors were taken from the screen shots of the film itself (which I might have saved to a hardcopy, but now I have zero ideas which CD, flash-drive or external drive those are in).

I feel like a huge part of it is that the nose was squished together, because we also had that made narrower. Which I kind of regret now, because I didn't know the leader of the group was going to submit their own line-references to DIM, instead of asking everyone else in the group if we wanted that. I kind of wish we would have kept the chunkier nose, as that would have given me a larger area to work with. I did mod it a bit since then, and just recently once again, but it's too thin/narrow to really do much about it now. I was thinking about adding some Apoxie Sculpt to the nostrils, as those are the ones that look the most squished to me, but I decided not to. Who knows, I might do that eventually, fix his nose tip to be a bit more "bulbousy" or just super round, because that's how it was supposed to be. Oh, well....

Thank you so much for your input and for taking the time to leave a comment! I'm always happy to read and be enlightened, since I am lacking in the looking at faces and knowing exactly what needs changing. I always need to compare in Photoshop and work that way, to get more "accurate" guides to mod my own dolls. Sadly, there are not that many clear full-frontal facial shots of Kadaj, to compare, but I might have to stop being lazy and search through my backed-up data. Thanks again, Blodeuwedd, (:

Edit: I don't want to double post on my own gallery thread.... DX I loathe to do it on other places, more so on my own threads (I don't want to double "bump" it, although there really isn't any bumping because right this moment it is at the top, but still...oldpersonramblingsexcusemylameness!).

I should have probably shared some of these as well, which were taken with my newer, cheaper cellphone that takes crappier photos, but more color accurate less glamourous-looking photos. Lol! I was lazy to resize them, and they look way too huge on PC, but mostly I don't like what imgur does to them. So, I resize all these, and I'm a lazy bum. (:

These are the "beter" options I found of his face, facing forward. He's always making extreme facial expressions, so it's hard to find one where he's not mega-angry, or with his mouth gaping. He does have short brows though! I had forgotten how short they were, I had to redo a bit of both, before sealing the work on this repaint. Lol!

With a messy quick mock-irises, to be smaller and less dark, plus angrier visible eyebrow, I also forgot just how slanted his eyebrows are supposed to be. I thought it would be easier to paint giant heads, but I was wrong! I forgot after getting comforable with 1:6 true-tos-cale ones:

    4. Aah I see what you mean about the eyes! It’s been that long since I watched Advent Children (although I play FFXIV on an almost daily basis and am very familiar with Squenix’s style and animation) that my mental image of Kadaj is that sneering, snarky, smug face he usually pulls.
Seeing the phone photos makes a difference as the eye colour seems lighter and closer to his.

At the end of the day @Enzyme we all see things differently and for old farts like us not always as clearly as we’d like so although yes, it’s helpful to have a fresh pair of eyes look at something and hopefully spot what’s bugging you but those fresh eyes aren’t going to have the same over all mental picture or ideas that you do as only you know what that looks like.
I still love what you’ve achieved, love your techniques and your ability to mod things (something that terrifies me) but most of all I love that you’ve brought good old Kadaj back to life!

    5. I haven't watched AC in a long time as well, since my last working Sony Blu-ray player died. Probably more than five years ago. I did watch it obsessively when it first came out, as an obsessive Sephiroth fangirl, I thought the more I watched it, the fastest Square Enix would release more accurate Sephiroth figures... Lol!

      Thank you so much for always replying and taking the time to leave a comment! It is sincerely something I dearly appreciate, as I am guessing most of us do, in a digital age. It is always good to hear/read other people's opinions for sure. It can certainly be useful when you stare at something for so long and can no longer see the inaccuracies and only focus on the flaws. I am scared of piercing my dolls ears, adding holes of any sort, but I am not scared to add half-a-pound of sculpting clay to their faces! I guess that really says something about the type of weirdo I am. I'm not sure what, but definitely says something. (;
