Are there any artists here who work with this clay? I haven't been able to find much material on the web about it's charachteristics in sculpting, though many artists seemed to recommend it?
Hey, welcome to the forum. For info on polymer clay, you might want to hit some OOAK fantasy sculpture places. They use a wider variety than we do. And I think they may be the community that some companies designed certain polymer clays for. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en...urce=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=YbeFT7W1BOmTiQKby9T1BA
Thanks. I got the same thing when I looked. Hard to find specifics though. Will this work for making ball jointed dolls?
I am not sure if you can expect heavy playing, but these clays are fine for sculpting and for stringing up to see how the joint move (but test for tension with spare clay before doing that to your sculpt). They're fine for prototype sculpting, though.
Well, the ooak people, they have all those clays just so they can sculpt, bake, and voila, no casting needed. The clays are designed to be final products, as long as no debris or discoloration gets into the clay. But yeah, just to get started requires quite a bit of work, and expect some fumbling around before you settle into a good process. Good luck!
i personally like fimo puppen a lot for making bjd's, especially in the msd size range and smaller. it's more flexible than most polymer clays which makes it almost unbreakable if baked properly. the cons are that the color changes after each time you bake it and moonies appear faster than in regular sculpey or living doll (though this might just be because it's from the fimo brand :3 ) i like it A LOT
Me too - I'd recommend it. I used Fimo Puppen for both my dolls and it's very resilient - you can add and take away as much as you please. But I could never use it as a final product, because of my inability to keep it speck-free >_<
I've use this and many other polymer clays, and this is by far the strongest and most resilient to shattering. It could withstand the stringing (albeit loose) of my MSD sized doll. My only complaint it that it's just a shit getting it where I am, and if you order it online you have to be careful not to order it in summer months or else is can partially cure (the case with most polys I guess lol).
