*edited again* finished-finished View attachment 473 View attachment 474 *edit finished sculpt pictures in later post* Well first doll I might actually finish ^^; I'm working on her as my final for my ceramics class (I'm glad my teacher approved of it since it's not exactly what he was asking for as far as a final goes ^^; ) my teacher says with shrinkage she'll end up maybe close to the size of my Luts junior delf ) These are just the roughed out shapes and I need to work a lot more on them before there any where near done ^^; advice is appreciated... also when she's done I'd love to get her cast into resin though I know I couldn't do it myself... but I've heard that there are places you can send your sculptures to and get them cast into resin... I think... if anybody knows of a good one i'd love to hear about it ^w^
I think there's a thread in General Discussion about casting services? It looks like you're working in water clay? So, when is this final project due? What state does the final project have to be in to get a grade? Fired? Fired, China Painted? Fired, China Painted, Strung? How are you going to string her? Elastic or springs? Fired, China Painted, Strung, Wigged? Fired, China Painted, Strung, Wigged, Clothed? Will she have shoes? Socks? How tall is she going to be? Is your teacher open to 'anatomically correct'? Curious minds want to know!
I think we could get a better idea of your progress if you took pictures of the parts lined up as a whole. BTW, are you using any kind of armature, or are you planning to hollow out at the leatherhard stage?
Wow, that's a lot to answer ^^; I think it's water clay... I'm not quite sure... it's whatever the standard is for college ceramics, turns pink when it's bisque ware for a grade she has to be finished in the green ware state in about 2 weeks I'm hoping to get her strung together with at least string if I can't get a hold of elastic strong and long enough (without damaging the ceramic) I'm not sure if she'd be stronger after a glaze firing but I do know that that'd leave certain parts of her rough as it needs a surface left without glaze to not stick to what they set it on... so since that's the only farther thing my class offers she'll probably just stay at the bisque stage... I do plan to give her a bit of a face up, and I have some spare wigs that'll probably fit her, and some clothes that I've had lying around that'll probably work as well, I also have some eyes currently being used by my floating heads I'll probably swipe until I can order her something proper. She's going to be (by my teachers estimations) as tall as my Luts Junior and he's a head shorter then a standard SD boy I hope he doesn't have too much problem with her being anatomically correct... I mean it's a college class, I'm sure we can all be adult about it. I'm not using any armature, just hollowing out partially in the moist stage and mostly in the leather hard stage. Also I plan to have a 3 part body, 4 part legs (2 thigh, knee, and calf), and 3 part arms for mobility... Come this Saturday I'm probably going to box her up and bring her home so that I can week pretty much work none stop on her this Sunday, then by my Monday class I'm hoping to have her ready to show off to my teacher for final approval before I set her in to finish dying before she's bisque'd. Also if I can get her done within that time frame, I'm hoping my teacher will let me make different heads for the body ^w^\ (but that's on more of a maybe then a definite ^^; )
Here are some more pictures of my doll in progress... I figured out the head was going to be all to huge so I've taken down the size by about half or more ^^; The inside of the pelvic area is the right side... now I just need to cut down the outside to the right shape and size ^.^\ Her current size makes her look huge compared to my largest boy, hopefully my teacher is right and she'll shrink down to his size when being baked... it said it was like 16% shrinkage on the material
Okay, so the Luts site said a Luts Junior is 57cm tall. A standard SD boy is 65cm? 16% shrinkage. To get a 57cm doll after 16% shrinkage, your greenware doll needs to be.... ~68cm tall. 68cm X 16% shrinkage = 10.88cm 68cm - 10.88cm = 57.12cm I guess she does look huge beside your standard SD boy.
I fail at math :pout my girl lost at least a few pounds in the carving stage, I can actually pick her up without killing my arms OoO\ currently I have her pretty much full sculpted but as my computer is currently crashed I won't be able to upload the images until Monday T^T so providing I don't have a brain crash over the weekend look forward to seeing some image then :p (hands and feet are currently made of suckyness and fail)
Massive load of pictures of my almost completely dry doll (not fired yet) the last to pictures show her current (un-shrunk) size compared to my Luts Junior boy (Height : 56 cm, head included) *first picture is her still wet *almost dry because I remade her feet 'cause the first ones were too small and the new ones have yet to dry all the way*
I intend to fix her eye later on after the class, so that when I cast her she'd not so odd looking (eye wise, then I'll fix the cast even more and re-cast it into it's complete form, though all that won't be for quite awhile... in order to get her to shrink down to the right size I had to glaze her as well so I'll post some pictures of her fully glazed and totally shrunk some time next week.
