Hi all, With my Alien project in the later stages i thought it was time to start a new project (in the early stage) next to it. Mainly as something to do in my digital sculpting time. As a big fan of cats i plan to do two felines. With two different faces and bodies. Also the more muscular version can be male, female or somewhere in between. Not sure about the size yet. Its still pretty early in the project but this should make it a more interesting journal right? Also better to get feedback early ofc The two different faces. Think i'll do five fingers and four toes. Body types. The lines/cuts show where i plan to do the joints for now. Everything is still pretty low detail so big changes are easy to do. When everything is a little more clear i merge the left and right side and start adding in detail
Oh this is so cool. Overall they look very good but oh my, I just love their faces. Can't wait to see more!
Neat! The faces aren't really my type of aesthetic but it sure looks unique :3 I'm digging the muscular female body you drafted.
Been a while since last update. Really was struggling with some of the balljoints. But atleast i got most of them roughly done now. All the sculpting still isnt done yet either. I do a final pass with more detail when all the joints are in. So plenty to do still but atleast i don't have complete digitigrade legs here like i did with my Alien. Fingers crossed the legs will be a little easier this time A few new pics:
What a cool project! Loving the muscular female body, especially the arms and legs. There really isn't enough truly muscular female BJD bodies on the market currently. Are you going to make the upper and lower bodies exchangeable? Will the tails be flexible in some way, or maybe detachable so a furry tail can be added with a magnet, but that would mean a magnet at the base of the spine so that could be done. Will they be able to stand on their own? With the details that you seem to be planning, I hope they're in the larger side. Ryu
Thanks! I made two bodies sofar. One with the chest joint high up, right under the breasts and one a little lower with the joint at the diaphragm (the one in the last few pics). For the body with the chest joint at the diaphragm everything is interchangeable. I'm a good bit further ahead already. Most parts are done (except for tweaking and testing) The tail is stringed and made of many segments so its very posable. You could ofc remove it and attach a different fluffy tail or pull something over the segmented tail? For the face and hands i plan to get magnets in them so its easy to switch between different expressions/poses. Oh and yes they must be able to stand! Ill keep tweaking the legs and feet till they can Actually plan to start 3d printing the first parts today and start tweaking from there. The one i start printing will be pretty large, using 14mm eyes. Think 60-65 cm.
Yay! After about a week of printing the first parts are out of my computer and into real life! Haven't done any cleanup, sanding or anything, these parts are just for testing. See how everything looks, fits and works out. Will have to make lots tweaks so its exciting and frustrating at the same time! If only my 3d printer would go 3x as fast
After more printing and tweaking i finally have a complete figure! Sorry for the B&W photo's. My phone is struggling with the black material and takes out all the detail in the regular color mode. Anyway, the new parts worked out pretty good. At first i had some trouble with the legs but with the last version things improved alot. Didn't expect she could already stand on her own! Still plenty to do tho. Already thinking of some tweaks and i'm going to try lots of different poses to find more weakspots that can be improved. Also printing out her tail, can't wait to see how that works out. Then i'm moving on to the male parts!
Looking great! And honestly I didn't realize they were B&W photos until I read your post . Excited to see how the tail turns out.
Whoa what a gorgeous creature!!!! I love them and their unique face and body. Absolutely stellar job!
Thx! Made some more improvements and she can stand pretty well now. Improved the hands but they still need magnets glued in so pics below are with the old ones. Also didn't like the faceplate so i changed the heads to use a little backplate instead. Happy with the cleaner look Did some test posing and comparing her with my Alien, i'm pretty happy with the body and joints sofar! Almost time to take everything apart and start sanding! Cant wait to post a pic with a sanded and primer painted body because this material makes taking pictures almost impossible!
Another update after some more tweaking and sanding. I got magnets in the wrists so i'm going to make a few more hand poses. Fun to switch those around. Think i'm pretty close with the bodies and joints so now its time for alot of posing and see if everything works and holds up. Standing on one leg! Actually was pretty easy to do, surprisingly. Might give my original thinner feet another try (although i do prefer easy standing myself).
The outfits arrived so i had to do a little update. Very happy with how they look and how things are coming along Wig still needs some work Really happy with how the outfits are pretty close in matching the old source material The dolls are only in primer with a few rounds of quick smoothing done sofar (sanding, primer, etc). They don't yet do justice to these outfits but they will soon hopefully. Think its coming together nicely tho! Atm i'm working on more extra parts like the crowns, ankh's, scepters and extra hands. Also first time modifying a wig, have to see how thats going to work out...
Just when I think they can't get any more beautiful, you post another picture! I am loving how they're being styled! You're such an artist!
Thanks so much! Yeah it's pretty exciting how it's turning out with projects that take so long from start to finish.
Thanks so much! Tried some outside pics today but unfortunatly my phone's camera went crazy for some reason. From the patterns in the linnen cloth probably Now that the clothes fit (pfew) its time to finalise things and see if i can get all the detail out of the 3d model.
Sanding my firgertips off atm but i'm getting there. Needed a little break so might as well post an update and maybe it also helps someone The right one is an example that is only cleaned up after printing with a single coat of primer. Left one is after a good bit of sanding and the one below is where i am now. Time to clean some lines up a bit and then a last round of sanding, almost done.. Most of the stuff i use: normal sandpaper: quick run with 40/80 grit (mostly on the supported areas) normal sandpaper: most i use is around 180 grit wet sandpaper : mostly use around 300 grit, do a detailed round with 500/600 (but don't spend that much time there) putty: filler for the real bad spots liquid surface primer: great to fill up small bits or a bad lower layer line. vallejo water texture: great to fill larger (bad) area's or if you want to work quickly. Let it sit long enough, can be peeled or cut off so only some careful wetsanding worked for me. Best to give it a coat of primer before you continue or use just it for its waterlike appearance ofc
Assembled again! Although i'm not a 100% finished i think i'm close enough for now and also kinda wanted to start on Bastet and print and paint a few more accesories.
Thx! I did some resin casting tests earlier that came out good but had too many (small) issues. During my winter break i'm getting a little (low noise) compressor + pressure pot and have another go!
