I made a wig. The base (for white skin) is a white stocking stretched over a plastic foil on the head, use a rubber band and stretch, crease, draw a hairline, use the universal glue (I used UHU) using some kind of art spatula (the brush is usually eaten away by the glue), scissors and white feathers. Apply glue to the basic cap and let it dry, then trim off anything outside the hairline. Do not start with the feathers until the next day. Always use only the soft part of the feathers. Cut off the hard tips. Sort it out the feathers into pieces with pointed and straight ends separately. Use straight parts for the bangs, pointed parts for the part in front of the ears. Start at the bottom line, work around and from front to back (at the bangs). The hardest part was the ending. It is necessary to layer and overlap and finally insert a few fine short feathers into the epicentre of hair growth to cover the glued parts of the previous layers. Feathers can be trimmed, but it is better not to. Natural soft ends always look better than cut feathers... The foil over the head is a great idea! I used cling wrap & it was not enough protection against the glue etc when I made something similar. Also the stocking is a great idea. On mine I had used slightly firmer material for the cap which made a very exact fit which didn't adjust from one head to another. I probably made too fitted a cap. Among the feathers I used were tiny down feathers that worked well with just a bit of glue for the top layer covering the crown of the head.
@cthulhu I'd love to see your creation for inspiration. This was just my first prototype. I'm not very handy, but thank you for the kind words.
I'm finally back online & it turns out my feather wig adventure was a while ago!?!? How time flies when playing with dolls! ;} Here's one of the two wigs I made And links to other photos of both wigs: https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/f56/LionHeartHats/Feathered_wig_(2).JPG https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/f56/LionHeartHats/Juri_(15).JPG https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/f56/LionHeartHats/Juri_(3).JPG With the round CPDelf Juri heads, the fit was very finicky when putting it on & taking it off. I think my friend had trouble working the one I sent them. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/f56/LionHeartHats/Juri_(13).JPG I don't remember what I used for the cap, but I do remember thinking it was too heavy, like felt or thin leather I think...your stocking idea looks like a better plan. The tiny feathers work best for the top layer to hide the rest of the ends. Hope the links work & are useful.
How cute!!! I also recently made a fetaher wig. They are just so unique and stunning, glad to see more people do it
Thank you! Please show me your creation. Side view: (with owner BelleJingly) Wedding II - Rei, look in the lens, too! by Arengil Tajedinápravá, on Flickr
I dont know the exacttype of feathers though, Its more brown/copper but the feathers shine in all bright colors in the light hehe hes also a bit of a bird character. I loooveeee the profile of your wig. Its SO pretty!!!!!! Did you use real or synthetic feathers?
These wigs are so pretty, and the wedding looks gorgeous!! I was inspired by Legendofdoll's recent Lumina doll to try and find other feather wigs. I especially like the ring-neck pheasant wig! I'd like to do some kind of woodland fairy inspire style.
