I'm really fond of my nendoroid dolls... They're cute little dudes. If a bit too prone to losing an arm or a leg if you're not careful how you pose them.
The 1/6 asian fashions doll... -Pureneemo Azone -Kikipop -Momoko -Pullip -JDoll Tonner doll Tyler & friends...
I have 3 Pureneemo dolls and I love them so much. I also have a Pullip but I don't like her as much as I thought I would.
I'm a huge Obitsu fan, so I'd love to get an Azone sometime to compare. 1/6 vinyl dolls are so convenient and affordable. Monster High got me into dolls and bjd in the first place, so I'm curious to see how this latest reboot goes...
Some odd years ago, I would've had a list of choices I could put on here. After I got invested in bjds, however—most other dolls went to the wayside. So...what's my favorite then? Pretty much he Pullip line. Pullip, Taeyang, Dal...mainly hybrided onto either Obitsu or 1/6 Volks bodies. I'm not really active with collecting them, but I do plan to eventually redo some faceups and characters amongst the bunch that I still have. I don't really keep the stock ones—they're pretty much customized to represent some character or other. Mostly favorites from various media I'm into, with one (a Taeyang) being a version of my boy Tahmos before I did my bjd version. I'd love to find more hybrid body options for some of them. Especially a pale grayish tone, or darker skin tone (tan/brown?). I haven't really checked the market in ages, so I have no clue what's out there for options. I've got a couple just waiting around for me to customize them, once I find the right ones. So...yeah—Pullip & friends are pretty much the only non-bjd doll I'm into, so by default they're my favorite.
The 1/6 scale off topic Volks and Obitsu spoiled me. But for all around usefulness it'll have to be a Made 2 Move style Barbie. They got me hunting for specific skin tones and body types again. I know there's a super pale petite out there somewhere, if I can manifest a merman I can manifest her. I was into the first round of Monster High, don't like the new face sculpts.
I really love my ever after high dolls. I was so sad when they stopped making them. They all have different face shapes and skin tones which was so rare for kids dolls. Also i really liked my liv girls! They had changeable wigs too! Another one that wasn't in production very long..
I’m in LOVE with most dolls to be honest, lol. Going from my ancient creepy crackled baby dolls(oh if dolls could talk the stories these dolls could tell!), to Monster High and Barbie. I really have a love for Pullips and Obitsus for the more posable fashion type of doll.
I just discovered that my small bust Obitsu 24s can share clothes with Rainbow High and some LOL OMG, guess I have an excuse to pick up a couple more of those! I wish MGA would offer more by way of clothes, the way Mattel does. Now I have two naked dolls sitting in a box because I just wanted their outfits... I will say, if LOL OMG ever goes for fully articulated knees instead of that oldschool bend and snap nonsense, they'd be interesting for hybrids. The body sculpt itself is really cute! Their heads still wig me out a little (I think it's the eyes, they need more sparkle or something). Anyone else have the bad luck of discovering a neat doll line, only to find out it's already discontinued? Cave Cuties and Creatable World have already broken my heart this year.
I love my MH, EAH, and TH dolls, but when it comes to favorite non bjds my first choices would be the Blythe and Pullip lines both stock and customized.
There's a few different lines I gravitate toward. I like the Jun Planning/Groove dolls, particularly Dal, Byul and Pullip despite the fact that I haven't bought any in years. They were my first foray into collecting as an adult. I have 5 Petworks dolls from their Usaggie/Jossie lines in both regular and obitsu mini size and I adore them! I'd absolutely love to have more but for now I can't order any due to DHL shipping only - but at least my wallet is safe and happy! I found a Cherry Merry Muffin doll secondhand and I'm definitely keeping my eye out for more of those (a discontinued 80s line) I really like Rainbow High from series 3 onward. Loved the fashion of series 1&2 but there are none of those dolls that I like enough to own (so shiny, so sparkly, which are not my thing) - but Series 3 Daphne Minton and Georgia Bloom? Sorely tempting! I'm just waiting on purchasing them because there are other upcoming MGA dolls that I want more. Mainly Series 4, which looks to be amazing if the leaks are correct! I also really like the Rainbow Junior High doll I own, and that's a line I'm probably going to pay attention to for the next little bit because they have less glitter and their faces are more matte. My latest love is Shadow High. I am literally obsessed as it almost feels to be made for me (greyscale!!!) and I know I'll be adding at least one of those to my overall collection when they finally arrive in Canada and I can take stock of them in person (oh that rainbow high quality control ) Other lines that I like but have yet to commit too are the Xiaomi Monst dolls, Holala dolls, Petworks Ruroko and Momoko, various smaller Azone dolls, various Integrity fashion dolls and a few of the Silkstone and reproduction Barbies.
I love the Monster High and Ever After High lines, and have also recently gotten into the Rainbow High. I might have a slight addiction for colorful, articulated dolls.
custom MegaHouse 2007 ToHeart 2 "Konomi Yuzuhara" in 1/6; ((MegaHouse/ALTER doll head, OBITSU 26 body (M bust, W skin) highly modified/ custom made clothes))
Liv was a great idea, THB they should have got the Miraculous Ladybug license because the look is there. I managed to get one Creatable World too so I know the pain of the discontinued. I have quite a few good looking but long gone dolls in the hoard. But I'll still encourage any up and coming doll designers and tell them to take note of everything we say- individual faces, articulation, colorful, and separate clothing packs. I'll add make the packaging reusable as a sort of display, or go a step further and add a strap and turn something like the soft Barbie zipper bags into a tote. I love the Blythe tote bag I have and if I had a doll purse thing as a child I would have worn it everywhere.
Absolute first was polly pockets fashion line if anyone remembers those. I loved monster high dolls but I only had 2 and one e.a.h.. Love the capsule chix especially the hologlow line. Love my figmas archetype she version 1 basically only one left of my doll family to survive unharmed. Was surprised how much I loved lol surprise dolls since those are not my usual style. And have to mention the doll with the best articulation I've ever seen at such a small scale it was a 1/20th scale 3d printed bjd that you string yourself.even had tiny toe joints! Ooh I forgot about Bratz and Bratz babiez but I liked my scene just a tad better!
The first dolls I truly loved as a kid were American Girl although I did have some barbies too. Today I like Rainbow High (but not enough to have more than one) and my kid likes LOL surprise! I can’t wait until she’s old enough for me to give her my old American Girl doll though I’ve saved everything packed away safely. She’s only 4 I got my Samantha when I was 9 or 10 so I still have a few years to wait.
I love all dolls so much, over the years I have collected: Barbie, Ever After High, Monster High, Rainbow High, American Girl, Pullip, Blythe, Licca-Chan, Integrity Toys, and a few unbranded clown dolls. Owning a BJD is the pinnacle of my collection but I can’t help myself when I see any doll I have an urge to make it my own
Bratz were my childhood fav and I kept a few. I also love Monster High. (Excited about the reproductions!) Plus American Girl has a special place in my heart as well.
I love Rainbow High fashion, Barbie's made to move body and the new Mermaze Mermaidz heads. Fortunately hybrids are an option. I think I have an issue with keeping dolls without modifying them Edited to add photo of my Mermaze Harmonique on a Barbie made to move body
Rainbow High and Pullips are my favorite, though I don’t currently own any Pullips. I also REALLY loved Ever After High back in the day.
Oh, I have too many "favorites". I have one or two of many different doll lines. But ones that I have more than 10 of are: Pullip Ellowyne Wilde Monster High Ever After High Rainbow High & Shadow High Lalaloopsy Minis LOL Surprise
Like many others here, Monster High is what got me into doll collecting I think my love of Doll Chateau's weirdos is directly a result of the obsession with spindly goth dollies that MH started. However, the OG weird goth dolls that I first fell in love with as a kid were Living Dead Dolls - I only recently starting collecting them myself after wanting one since I was a tween(but was too much of a coward to actually buy a doll for myself at that age, even a cool goth one). I also really want another Pullip family doll at some point, since I have a Namu Serpent who could use some friends.
I’m probably going to be the odd one here and aging myself but I collect dolls from my childhood to make up for what I missed out on. The ot dolls fill the majority of the doll room, bjd are only in one cabinet for now. I have Cabbage Patch Kids from the 80s, Mattel My Child, and Galoob Baby Face. The only ones I found as an adult are Kish Riley (I have 4) and bjd.
Azone International Dolls. They are absolutely adorable. I would absolutely want to collect some in the future. However, my favourite early-teen year dolls are monster high
Monster High as well-- I'm a big fan of monsters in general, so I'm not surprised they got me. I love Evangeline Ghastly, though I never got my hands on her when she was in production. And my little Hujoo cats. Aside from MH and my Hujoos, most of my collection tends to the 'figure' rather than the 'doll' side. I was never a Blythe fan previously, but lately I've seen more custom work on them that's won me over and I find them pretty cute.
I still have the Tiny Betsy McCall from when I was a kid (1950s). She is so cute and has such a sweet face, but mine is falling apart. I need to get her repaired.
@ParlourGoddess , I sold my original Betsy along with my original Barbies, Ken, and all their clothes, many years ago. Then used the money to get American Girls for my daughters. It was some time later that I discovered the Tonner Betsys and started collecting them for myself. And it was that new interest in dolls that eventually led to my interest in BJDs. It's great that you still have the original. Mine were already worth too much to let my daughters play with them and now their American Girls are worth too much to let my granddaughters play with them. But they are still pretty young, maybe when they're older.
My favorite non bjd dolls are Robert Tonner Wonder Woman, the last version with a likeness to Gal Gadot, and the first one with the more edgy face. Third in line is Saloa, a porcelain fairy made by Gabriele Müller.
Antique dolls! And I mean the really old ones, like pre-1920s; primarily ones that represent grown ladies rather than children. I will say, on the negative side side, that "I collect antique dolls" is about the only thing you can say online that gets worse reactions than just "I collect dolls." The number of times I've had to explain that, no, they are not haunted or waiting to murder the first unsuspecting person they can pounce on...
I recently got my first playline doll in years, mostly cause I was curious and wanted to see if I liked him and he was cheap nude secondhand on Mercari. He's an LOL OMG Rocker Boi, and when I took him out of his shipping box, I was in LOVE! I'm terrible at picturing scale in my head, so I couldn't visualize what he'd look like in person, and he's much better proportioned than I expected! I'm still gonna repaint him (he was their first boy and they didn't do him any favors, imo) and give him more of a Visual Kei aesthetic. My love of him has also got me to buy a new Moonlight BB, since I love everything about her but the sunglasses and weird hat they gave her that doesn't go with the style of her outfit. I'm very excited to have found a playline doll I actually like, I'm not vibing with the new MH Gen 3 dolls, so this was a pleasant surprise!
I have lots of non-bjd dolls (ball-jointed doll dolls?) that I like! Most notably is probably Waldorf dolls in that they are probably on the other end of the doll spectrum, as they are deliberately simple and apparently easy for even kids to make, but they are so gosh darn cute! Handmade German Style Waldorf Dolls by Heidi Hilscher and Nanchen at The Wooden Wagon
I really love Pullip and Rainbow/Shadow High dolls, they’re beautiful. They resemble bjds so much, and even though sometimes the material of their hair might seem cheap, I feel like they are worth buying. Now I have a full collection of both of those dolls.
The new g3 Monster Highs (specifically Clawdeen) and Rainbow/Shadow Highs are what got me interested in dolls again as an adult. I just think their designs/accessories are really nice and they have really cute faces.
I like Monster High, Shadow/Rainbow High, Bleeding Edge Goths, Novi Stars, Nendoroids, Living Dead Dolls Fashion Victims, Pullip, specific Bratz, specific customized Blythes, specific Ever After High, and vintage clown/jester dolls.
I love the older monster high dolls, they have such beautiful face sculpts and I love how versatile they are for artists & repaints - I haven't seen any of the gen 3 ones in person yet but they look really cute too!
I love Monster High & Barbies (esp vintage ones & the newer ones with the body variations), and I have a soft spot for Barbie alternatives - some of those "fakie" fashion dolls have the sweetest faces, even if they have eh bodies. I love some Blythe, though it's more a case by case basis with those? I have one custom in my collection & love her to bits, but don't know if I'd put Blythes as a group in my faves list. A big love for me is ooak customs/artist dolls. I have a hybrid obitsu w/ a old school craft store witch doll head that shouldn't work, but the artist did it & I couldn't love her more. As well as my 2 felt dolls from one of my fave artists in EU - I would love to have a whole shelf of her dolls, they are fantastic. & Don't own any (yet) but the Rainbow/Shadow High dolls are top of my list rn bc ughhhhhhhh all those colors I. love. them. Antique dolls bring me a lot of joy too. I love holding something so 'frivilous' in my hands that's outlived everyone from its own time. And my childhood baby dolls are some of my most precious in my collection. .....basically I just love dolls, period.
I am a doll lover in general! My collection is comprised of all types of dolls. Cabbage Patch Kids, Monster High, DAM/Norfin/Russ trolls, and Barbie are my long-time favorites though.
I love Living Dead Dolls, the old Bleeding Edge Goth dolls and Evangeline Ghastly. I have some Monster High dolls, I always regret not getting one when they were first released. I also own quite a few Bratz although I no longer actively collect them
Not sure exactly where the line is for dolls and action figures, but I have half a dozen Nendoroids (so cute!) some Play Arts Kai (Mostly various Clouds from FFVII), and 2 Hot Toys 1/6 guys. My absolute favorite doll that I have that isn't a BJD is a 3D printed baby skeleton by Walloya Morring that is sort of a BJD, but an off topic one that is not made of resin and is only partially strung.
I love my Rainbow/Shadow High Dolls, and customizing them. I have three I've redone and one in progress, and one waiting in the wings with plans for a couple more. I like giving them Goth/punk looks. I actually made my bjd's wig from hair I cut off a shadow high doll because it's so nice/pretty. I don't know if they count as dolls so much as figurines, but I also love a good Funko Pop and have a small collection. Mostly of characters that inspire me/make my heart happy.
If it counts, I do have Reborn Dolls which is the most recent dolls I got last. I tend to make my own characters into them and I kind of want to do that with my FFXIV character which I want to also shell into a BJD eventually when the head I want becomes available first of course. Though at the moment I actually got a 3D printed head on the way instead ^ ^')
Rainbow High Dolls are driving me nuts and one of these days I will take one home. I always find myself checking them at the store but get too analysis paralysis to pick one. Pleasant surprise every time by the variety of designs and options though. For ones I actually have, Nendoroid Doll and Kotobukiya's Cu-Poche are really fun to play with. Monster High will always have a spot in my heart because my friend adores them and made me a custom.
I recently got some Mamachapps and they're my favorite non-bj-doll I've owned by far The big heads are so cute and obitsu body is fun to pose and stands easily. I call them my desk daughters and change their posing every day
I think my favorite non-BJD doll that I *own* is my custom Valentine, a character from Neil Gaiman's MirrorMask. Valentine is a face I sculpted myself onto the head of a Volks NeoGo boy, which is an Obitsu-like sort of 1/6 doll. I don't know if Volks even sells them anymore, I made him in 2009 I think.
