Fate of original Elfdoll tinies?

Sep 28, 2006

    1. NOTE!!! If this is all true then today, September 30 2006, is the last day to order Elfdoll 14cm tinies, ever.

UPDATE!!! On Oct. 2 Elfdoll answered though they might discontinue them in the future, they are not doing so right now. Yay!

I saw this message on Zone of Zen that the regular 14cm Elfdoll tinies were being discontinued so Rainman can concentrate on Hana.

I have no idea where the poster got the the info from but I posted the question there.

      http://members.boardhost.com/ZoneofZenBJD/msg/1159465787.html

Has anyone heard anything like this???

      Carolyn

    2. I was surprised to see that news today as well - in our own DoA News SubForum.

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1151343

I DO love the wonderful and innovative 8 inch Tinies but the Elfdoll Tinies are so adorable, I will be sad to hear that they are being discontinued.

    3. I'm surprised! The little ones are so popular. I was hoping to get on someday. :(

    4. Oh D: that's so sad, perhaps I should get one whilst I still can then!

    5. On ZoZ, they said that the poster is an ElfDoll dealer and they expect she got the news directly from ElfDoll.

    6. Oh no, I was saving up for one (Adel or Lyn)... I would have really hoped that Rainman would keep on making these original tinies, because they are just so precious. They are still my favorite elfdoll tinies!

I guess I'll have to frantically gather some funds to get her (along with Limhwa ToYou who is only being manufactured until December :() I hope all of us who want one can manage to order one before they are actually discontinued.

Edit: Carolyn, even though it's not likely, I'm hoping the Elfdoll admin will get back to you with a message along the lines of "oh, it's not true we're discontinuing these tinies. They'll be made forever, and ever, and ever" : D

      *sigh*

    7. That's so sad! Weren't the original ElfDoll tinies like the original not-baby tiny dolls? (I used to want Slyph so bad, and then Winky - what the heck ever happened to Winky, by the way?)

I'm really sad. I mean, I never really planned on getting one, but they're just so darling, and it's always nice to know a standard is there to order should you ever want it.

(Also, does anyone have the stock photos of Catsy? I thought I had some saved, but I don't seem to; ditto Slyph in her original dress - if anyone has the stock photos of her, I'd be really thankful.)

    8. It was Kathy of Dolls and Friends. I figure she would know.

I'm very sad about this as well...I adore my Elf tinys, I own eight of them. They are wonderful, and really if I had to choose between them and Hana, they'd win in my book. I love their adult attitudes and figures, and there's nothing similar around.

They produced Winky as a limited two-pack with Wendy, then on her own:

I guess this answers the "when are they coming out with a boy Tiny" question, eh? :(

    9. yeah that makes me sad too i was hoping they'd make a boy to be my little lyn's companion. instead i will have to get her a big brother instead of a same brother. cause the banji boys bodies fit but all the head molds i find to be hideous.

    10. I will treasure my tiny all the more!

    11. I get the impression Kathy's saying all of the 14cm's will be discontinued. Still waiting to see if Elfdoll verifies it.

      Carolyn

    12. oh no! I was hoping to get a whole tribe sometime. I have a ton of doll furniture and items that I've had since childhood and they're just the right size for them. :{ Guess if push comes to shove I'll make my own, but I love rainman's littles~

    13. I'm so sad they're being discontinued. It wasn't very likely, but I had always hoped that Rainman would sculpt a boy to go along with these girls. I think the less mature girl body could possibly modified into a boy body, but none of the girls' heads are very manly.

*points a big finger at Hana* It's YOUR fault these precious tinies are being discontinued!

Kidding! jk jk, Hana is a real sweetie, just I'm not quite as attracted to her as I was with these. Wouldn't it be great if Rainman made interchangable heads for these tinies? We can dream ;)

    14. We received the info, too.

Elfdoll has wanted to discontinue the little dolls for a while, now, so with the new release of Hana they're doing it.

If anyone needs a tiny, let us know. We took them off the site a long time ago when they were never on our order sheet and prep time was taking more than a couple months. This is the last time for orders.

The newest issue of Haute Doll has an article on Rainman/Elfdoll written by Kathleen Rowell. Thanks Kathleen!

    15. Rats
and we never got that boy :(

    16. I sold my Winky, Wendy and Catsy when I was overwhelmed with Tinies but I am SO glad I kept my Monneami sisters. I love the fact that they are tiny but not babyish.

    17. That news is on their Elfdoll Sales Site. They are using a popup for it so if your computer blocks these, you may not be seeing it. Not only are the Tinys going away but you will not be able to place orders through Elfdoll for about half a month due to them moving their office and switching servers.

    18. wishes I could have got Wendy - I always ment to get them

      found out TODAY
Pete , my better half is out of a job in 2 weeks-ish
the factory he works at has gone bump , so I cant even buy the Winky and Wendy set on Ebay ...Sobs or the Cherished doll ....eyes the Wishel

my Luthien and Pippin are 2 of my favorite and have been with me one longest of all of my tinys - 2 PFs and 2 Elf .

Sad to see the Elf tinys go , I like the Hana faces - but Im not so keen on the body sculpt

    19. 1. For the person who wanted stock photos of Catsy and the person asking about Winky/Wendy - Elfdoll.com keeps Catsy and Winky/Wendy in the Special/Tiny section rather than in Tiny Dolls section:

      http://elfdoll.com/skin/elfdoll/goods/productList.php?cat_largeno=3&cat_middleno=2&cat_smallno=0

      2. Re popup windows - correct - I use Firefox. I told it to allow popups at elfdoll.com and I can now see the extremely vague notice. This does not say anything about 14cm. On their website the category Tiny Doll contains both 14cm Elfdolls and Hana. Maybe they only think of the 14cm's as "Tiny Dolls" but this message is totally vague. Was there an earlier popup that was more specific?

      Carolyn

    20. So does this mean that we should be stocking up on headcaps and wigs, too?

    21. I don't know any more than anyone else. But to be safe, yeah.

      Carolyn

    22. Bumping because this might be the LAST day 14cm Elfdoll tinies can be ordered, before they are discontinued. Still no response on the Elfdoll site to my request for verification of this.

It's very sad. An Elfdoll tiny was the very first BJD I ever saw on the web, and was the doll that led me to the whole world of BJD's and the people that own and love them. I feel sad for all of the future people who will be captivated and obsessed by these unique mature tinies only to discover that they are no longer made. I thank Rainman for bringing his unique vision to us in the form of tiny resin, but I mourn their demise.

      Carolyn

    23. In the latest Haute Doll I read that "Monnaemi" means UGLY in Korean! This is just amazing, since I think my Min is just beautiful! She is one of my original Dream Dolls.

    24. This is really sad because they were amongst the very first tiny BJDs and there really aren't any other dolls like them at all. I'd always hoped my Min would get a brother someday, or that they would release more skintones or options. The new tinies are utterly adorable, but the Elfdolls are almost the only BJDs that are truely doll-for-a-doll scale. (The only other that comes to mind off the top of my head is Banji, but the Elfdolls have more spirit, IMO.)

    25. :...( Ugh! This really makes me so sad . . . my little sister really wanted an Adel, and I wanted one of the little elf girls, too. I hope we'll be able to find one secondhand someday . . . though I bet this means the secondhand price will be going up . . .

    26. Esme (adel) was my first BJD. I was looking at them at Dolls and Friends, and I asked my two year old daughter (Eva Esme) which one I should buy and she said : "get the pink one with the hat mommy". When she came I asked my husband what I should name her and he said after Eva since she picked her. The first night she was here Eva pulled her foot off trying to change her shoe! My husband fixed her LOL. Right now she is driving a big Star Wars Lego thing. Sigh.

    27. I just got my Winky today. I am soo sad about this. I got her from Janis at Sunrise. I really like her too! I wanted another or at least to be able to buy stuff for her but I guess they won't be doing that anymore either.

    28. Oh man!! :(
I'm glad I have my three little girls. I find them absolutely mesmerizing. Beautiful. Lovely and wonderful.

      *sigh*

    29. woot i jsut ordered catsy yesterday! so glad i have one no0w ::sigh::

    30. Wait... that notice actually reads more like "we're not taking orders for a couple of weeks while we work on the web site." Can we hope?? :) Because I never saw that pair until yesterday (Winky and the other one) and I really want them!! *pant*

    31. Well, I kept putting it off, but I guess this turn of events hastened what I've been wanting for a while. So Bong is on her way :)

      • x 1
    32. I know the notice is extremely vague - I posted the question on Elfdoll.com Q&A and they seem to have answered every question around mine, but not mine.

Thread was started because a dealer of Elfdolls was given the discontinuation info by someone.

      Carolyn

    33. Elf told a couple of the US dealers they wernt going to sell them anymore and were going to concentrate on the larger Hana

    34. Quoting from the popup box that appears when you go to Elfdoll's main page:
      Unfortunately, it's not a rumor. :...(

ETA: OTOH, the tinies are still listed on the website & you can still add them to your cart. No idea what's up with that.

    35. I don't think the Elfdoll people know how to run their website's software, to be honest. They don't know how to flag something "unavailable" or "discontinued", only "sold out", and you often see that releasing a new doll will mess up their entire website.

I highly suspect that if you add a doll to your cart and pay for it, that it will only result in great frustration, as they either a) take a long time to refund you, or b) take a long time to acknowledge your order [as they assume everyone read the popup that says they are not taking orders].

    36. Oka at Elfdoll posted that this is not true. Post from their site as follows:

Thank you so much for your love and support on Tiny Dolls.

What you've mentioned could happen in the future.
However it won't happen now and even if we decided to discountinue Tinies, we promise you to let you know in certain period in advance.

    37. Wait, so no discontinuation of tinies? Yay!

    38. Well, I'm glad to hear that. Seems odd, though, that a vendor would be under the impression they were being discontinued right away....wonder what was said to her to give her that impression.

    39. I talked to Elfdoll production team few days ago, and I don't think they are discontinuing their Tinies.

It is Korean Thanksgiving and the longest holiday; I think some people can take the maximum of 9 days for vacation due to consecutive holidays. Elfdoll seems to be upgrading their server during these holidays.

In fact, they told me that they are in process of producing tiny doll bodies in abundance during the holidays, so that customers won't have to wait too long to receive their orders.

The vendor may have been mis-informed due to miscommunication probably, especially when their native language is not English.

I'm so glad that the Tinies will be available, since I am so ready to get Jin-dal-lae.

    40. Thanks Clochette - I had not checked for an answer yet today! I'm really glad they are not discontinuing them. They are the only mature-body dollhouse size BJD.

      Carolyn

    41. I'm glad too, but the OP isn't a newbie with Elfdoll or the language barrier. It would have had to be one heck of a miscommunication for her to have gotten it that wrong, since she had info in her first post that wasn't on the popup. Not that it matters now, just makes me curious.

Carolyn, I think it's Elfdoll2006 who is the target of your thanks, not me. :)

    42. Maybe when they said that this would be the last order that they would be able to place, they meant that from now on, they would only sell the tinies from the elfdoll site?

I am really glad, though, that they aren't being discontinued! Someday, I'll get an Min Del Re and mod her into a boyfriend for my Adel :)

    43. theyre NOT being discontinued? ... ::shuffles feet:: darn, as much as i love catsy, i wasnt planning on making her my first bjd (too niche-y, wanted a more common style to play with)... there goes my lydia fund... lol

    44. Elfdoll_Oka just finally answered today that they are not being discontinued at this time. Sounds like some kind of translation mixup between Elfdoll and their US dealers.

      Carolyn

    45. Yay ...and I mean that from the bottom of my PayPal account
I do sell a lot of wigs for these girls and custom outfits
I get more orders for her than Banji
so far still more popular than Banji ...and my favorite
she was the first tiny I ordered

Ok so when are they gonna release Wendy LOL
I love her ! but not keen on the Christmas set
and I dont want Winky , Ive never seen a Wendy come up for sale either ;(

    46. Yes of course - thanks elfdoll2006 for your solid info! And I was thanking clochette for check my question in Elfdoll Q&A to see if it got an answer.

Chuuie - I'm pretty sure you could sell an unmodified Catsy in the Marketplace for what you payed.

Clochette - I can see easily how the wrong information could have been passed to a dealer. Just switch the words around or stick an 's' on sale and it's "sales of Elfdoll tinies end September 31". And there may have been a News release that got pulled - you can see it was deleted right before I posted my question. For all we know, they may have planned to stop selling them or may have done a news release that was badly translated.

I do not fault Kathy for announcing it to the forum. I have dealt with Kathy of dollsandfriends.com many times in the past and I have always found her to be a very good dealer, truthful and helpful.

      Carolyn

    47. It's true that I have had a horrible time communicating with the Elfdoll folks, for even simple things. We need a Babel fish or a universall translator!

Good news, anyway, that our girls are sticking around---and we can keep hoping for a boy! Has anyone seen the newest Haute Doll? On the last page of the Rainman article there is a tiny with the cutest little face and wild hair---we need HER!

    48. No, it wasn't Dodo, though it is the same wig. This tiny has her little eyes all squinty, and bright red lips! She is the BOMB!

    49. Yay! Yay!!

      Psyched = Me.

Now if I can just get my Sylph's faceup to stop looking like a thundercloud (the one she came with came to me with rubbed off somehow and I can't get her eyebrows fine enough).

Yay!!! *flips* I just so love these little girls. Me want more!!

    50. Well, I have to confess....

I bought a Rainman tiny because of this rumour.

She was on my list, but not so near the top that I would have purchased her right now.

This is she Monnaeme Min Del Re:

      http://dollsandfriends.com/l/elfmi.jpg

      I have no regrets! :)

    51. [IMG]

    52. Delicateangel - Min is one of my favorites too!

Chuuie - you still have a "WTB: Catsy" thread in the Marketplace

      Carolyn

    53. Aren't her eyes just pleading for you to take her home?
Try not to make eye contact!

    54. You will be SO happy with your Min! You'll want to carry her everywhere---and you CAN! :)

    55. You will love your Min...I adore my Cranky Winona, she's such a character.

    56. So good to hear! I had gotten an answer as well:

      Hello,

Thank you for your interst on Elfdoll.
We stopped sales for Tinies for past few weeks and
we started to sale tinies again.
      That was what we meant.

      Sorry for the confusion.

      Elfdoll_Oka

    57. It's so strange to read this, I just ordered 3 of these dolls like 5 minutes ago!! So I hope they will still make them for me... They look so adorable!

While we are on the subject, does anyone know where to get clothes for these dolls? I ordered Lyn, Sylph and Adel...
