Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 65

Jul 31, 2020

    1. @Kirahfaye, @Dollquest, your dolls are gorgeous! Noble looks like such a badass, and Tanner and Sircca look so sweet. :D

Ugh, the wait for Hisato's body and other items continues. Thank you to those that have posted pics of their dolls.:XD:

    2. @Natalie.Jua There are usually people selling their dolls after they come in, so I'm sure you'll still be able to get her.

    3. An e-buddy of mine in the dolly community just made my decade. She's a big collector of all kinds of dolls of all kinds including BJD's. She was the one who told me about DOA actually years ago. She's um, pretty affluent? She has no kids either so if she likes a doll usually she collects multiples of it. They're basically her resin kids. She has hundreds of dolls including a very sizable resin BJD collection. I've always enjoyed looking at pics of her dolls. She doesn't share them on here. She's a pretty quiet soul on DOA but she has posted pics on other multi doll forums and sent snaps to me when she got a new doll.

She read about my losing my last two BJD's on the way up to NYC via theft. She was very upset that I had kept that news to myself for so long. After getting very ticked on my behalf she decided that she could spare a girl or two. Or maybe she ordered them for me. I don't really know and I'm not rude enough to ask. The pics she sent, the dolls look brand new to me but I think it takes a while to order these dolls so likely they were boxed for future use or something. She does that so I would not be surprised if they are basically new. She says she is having faceups done for me so it will be a month or so before I actually see them arrive but she's sending me an MSD Minifee Mirwen and an an Iplehouse JID doll, Soa that looks a lot like my favorite non resin BJD.

I looked her up when she first told me because I did not know this doll, Soa or why she'd send me that particular doll. I am not too familiar with JID MSD dolls. I looked but could not even find her on the Iplehouse site so likely she had her already. To me with the right face up she does rather resemble one type of Narae and the other OT doll a lot. Actually more the OT doll actually, now that I've really studied her which delights me because I really have a thing for that doll and this doll will be like having a resin version only much more alive looking in terms of the faceup. Likely that's why she chose her to send. She knows how obsessed I've been with OT doll and how much I missed my hybrid Narae head. I never did get Narae quite right on a body. Color matching was just awful with that particular head but I lost that head with my other two and to say that I was mad was an understatement because that was the closest to having an actual Narae doll that I've ever been and I still had plans to dye it or something so it would finally match a body...

I've long coveted a small Mirwen and the Soa is just gorgeous from the pics I've seen. They're both incredible dolls faced up and if her own dolls that I've seen are any indication they are gonna be GORGEOUS. Whoever does her faceups does a marvelous job from what I've seen. I'm very eager to see what she is doing with them. I still want a mini boy someday but these are definitely my new girls. No arguing I'm THRILLED to have them, so happy and grateful for her generosity. She asked me not to post her name here so I won't but she'll read this later and smile, I hope.

They're going to be in my storage locker safe and sound until I get a place. I will visit them and eventually dress them and talk to them a couple of times a month but obviously they're much safer in the locker than than here in a shelter hotel until I am housed. I want them where there are multiple cameras, security guards and locks! I'm not risking these beauties! That will likely be some time early this Summer so not too long until they will have a proper place to live. I bet you though that I am the first homeless person in a NYC shelter to ever own a Minifee and an Iplehouse!

I still miss my boys dreadfully. I will never get over having my Ringdoll Edward hybrid stolen or having to sell my big hybrid Saint. I worked SO hard to find the parts and to hybrid those guys for a reasonable price. The plan is to get the mini Saint used at some point down the road once I am in housing to go with these girls. Until recently I did know there was an MSD Saint. Now I do and that solves the issue of "which" boy I am going to have because he's my #1 MSD pick now. But that's it because I can't afford to buy a whole crew of BJD's anymore...

Somewhere in my locker I still have a bag full of wigs that the nasty man who took my dolls didn't get. I also have a lone box of various shoes that should fit them. So all I have to do is hit Etsy and this one store I like that has inexpensive basic doll clothes and they will be properly togged out and looking fine. I just have to wait to see them faced up to know what to buy, what will look good and fit their personalities. I have to see them to name them. I just can't do that till they get here.

I think I'm going to cry. It's just a bit overwhelming. Not only am I going to have proper BJD's again but I've got a new Mirwen doll that I have long coveted and one that looks like my favorite non resin BJD. I mean what more could I ask for? Nothing. I feel like running around my shelter hotel room screaming "YES!" at the top of my lungs but I won't because that kind of disruptive behavior will only end up with me taking a trip to a hospital for a psych eval and I definitely don't want that! :P

Oh she asked me what I'd like to see my Mirwen look like? I told her like Hermione Granger/Emma Watson, of course since that to me is who the Mirwen sculpt resembles. So I expect she will end up being rather witchy, my Mirwen, rather like a teen Hermione. Don't know about Soa. We will have to see how her faceup looks and go from there....

I'm just so ✨ though. You guys have NO idea of what these dolls mean to me. It's been YEARS since I've had a resin BJD and I missed mine so very much.

I hesitated at first to post this. I already posted elsewhere the other day and I ended up withdrawing the post. I've already had multiple people DM me and say "Well don't you think maybe you should just sell them and keep the money for housing?" I get it, people think I have better things to spend what little money I have on but they don't get it. These dolls are total doll therapy and to me worth their weight in gold. That she would do this? I would NEVER diss her gracious gift by putting a price tag on these girls or attempt to sell them no matter what my situation is. Never. These are going to be the most well taken care of and appreciated girls in the history of BJD dolls!

Anyone who doesn't think I am worthy of having them, well, TOO BAD. Okay, I don't mean to come off that snarky, sorry, but the first person on the other forum that did DM me did make me cry and not tears of joy either. It's hard enough being homeless. People can treat me like crap sometimes and make judgement calls based on my situation that frankly are not very nice. If you're thinking the same, your choice, you are entitled to think whatever you want but please don't DM me and tell me I'm not worthy of owning a BJD because I am poor right now. That just hurts my feelings deeply. Just let me enjoy them, love them and be happy. You have NO idea of what the past few years have been like for me and I just don't need any more negativity in my life. TY! <3

    4. After over 6 months of waiting, my Minifee Sylvia finally came home. I’ve already given her a faceup and a name; this is Desirae :aheartbea

    5. @magkelly - Wow, I'm glad you shared your story! What a lovely gift from your friend! You have every right to enjoy these dolls and be grateful for them! Life is about more than mere survival - I firmly believe we need beauty and goodness to be truly alive, and it sounds like these dolls will bring you a lot of joy in themselves, aside from the fact that you will be reminded that your friend cares about your happiness whenever you see them.

I'm so sorry to hear that some people responded to your good news with negative comments. How little compassion they are showing for your situation! Whether they meant to upset you or not, it was incredibly thoughtless of them to taint your joy by trying to make you feel guilty or unworthy. Of course you are worthy!

I hope you will receive your new girls very soon and will share photos (if you want to)! Mirwen is a great sculpt, one of my favorite MNF faces - I think a "Hermione Granger" faceup will look so nice on her! And Iplehouse Soa is so pretty (I can see how she resembles the Narae sculpts).

      • x 3
    6. TY for your kind words. That was sweet and very much appreciated, particularly after the comments I got when I posted elsewhere. I was SO upset. I just pulled the post and totally withdrew for a couple of days. I do think Soa does resemble the Narae doll a bit and my OT dolls a lot more. I posted about it and several people thought not but most of the faceups I've seen online for her she really does to me so this is very like having a Narae doll for me. I still love Narae but this is close enough, I think that I will not hunt her down used someday.

Eh, you never know. Life is not static. One of these days I'm going to be a published author and known photographer, you watch. When I have a book on the bestseller list and photos of mine in SOHO galleries and I'm far better off I have promised myself I can have all the dollies I want and a nice big NYC loft to put them all in! That's my dream anyway to write/ photo myself out of poverty into the sweet life. Poverty is highly overrated. After all this crap I've decided I want to be RICH. People who say money can't buy happiness have never spent several years being homeless after losing almost everything. Happiness is never having to worry about money, healthcare or having a roof over your head ever again. The rest is just icing on the cake.

I'm not going to be selfish about it either. I am going to pay it forward and help other people like people have helped me. I will never forget what it was like being homeless. It's a part of me now, mentally. It affects you for life no matter how well you do later. Comments like those it makes me very motivated to get to a position where I can help other people who are in the same boat.

    8. Oh my goodness! I am so sorry you've had to go through so much, but glad an internet friend was willing to give you a few dolls to get through it.

I have never considered BJDs as therapy! That may explain why I won't sell most of my dolls even when I consider leaving the hobby. I don't do much with my dolls, but seeing them and all their prettiness does bring a little joy to my life.

      • x 1
    9. @magkelly You have every right to have and enjoy a BJD or two, and anyone who says otherwise is being a jerk. What wonderful gifts, and a good friend to give you such delightful things. I am sorry someone was hurtful and made you cry.

I've been poor most my life, I've never been homeless, but I've lived on welfare as a kid. I'm not rich now, but better off then I was as a kid. I'm lucky to have what I have. My fun money gets saved and goes to dolls and other toys. They make me happy help me fight my depression, and my anxiety. I love my resin army, and I am super thankful for it. I think haters will hate, and folks that have never gone without will judge without knowing. I am grateful for every doll and toy I have, cuz I know how lucky I am to own each one.

I 100% believe "play" is needed for a happy life. Play to me comes in many forms it might not be with toys. You might write, paint, craft, cook, sew, make models, restore old cars, so forth and so on to endless options for creative outlets. People need hobbies, activities and items that make them happy and spark the mind. Dolls can be therapy, they give an outlet for the inner child, they let us have "play" and imagination.

      • x 5
    10. @magkelly Wow, congratulations on getting wonderful and thoughtful gifts from your friend! That was very kind of her, and I'm so glad dolls have been so helpful to you in getting through this difficult time.

I'm so sorry that people had put a damper on such happy occasion. I'm appalled that people had the audacity to say such cruel words to you. I don't know why these people thought it was in their place to give advice you never asked for, especially when you weren't hurting anyone else and it was never their business in the first place!

You deserve to enjoy life as much as anyone else, regardless of your economic situation. It's happy things in life (like dolls :D) helps us get through difficult times :)

Your dolly plans sound amazing! "Hermione Granger" faceup style will be so cute! If you don't mind, I hope you keep us updated on your dolls. Sharing love of dolls is why we're here after all lol

Also, good luck on your book and photography!

    11. @magkelly, dolls can be therapy, so you have no reason whatsoever to listen to those jerks that were so cruel to you! :vein

Mine make me happy, and when I get upset, I grab Ryuichi (my favorite doll, but he's an SD so off topic for this thread) and hug him until I feel better. Even when I was having health problems and couldn't play with them, just seeing my Crew made me smile whenever I was down or worried. I too have been down on my luck, and I scrimped and saved for my Crew and their things, so I really appreciate each and every one of them.

Whatever makes you happy when you are down/depressed/worried/sick/etc, is worth its weight in gold. How dare those people give you negativity when you are simply trying to get some happiness in your life! :vein:x:evil:

You do whatever makes you happy, and enjoy Life any way you want. Good luck with your dolls, and be sure to link us to your boxopenings, okay? Your future dolls sounds wonderful, and your stored dolls too! Good luck with your career, and when you get rich and famous, come here and tell us all about it, okay?

I can't wait to see your Hermione! Gryffindor for the WIN! :kitty1:thumbup

      Ryu

    12. Congratulations @magkelly , what a kind friend you have! Like others have already said, life is about more than survival, you're allowed to have nice things, no matter what your circumstances, and the thought of selling such a heartfelt gift from a friend is just awful >__< Treasure them!

Speaking of Mirwen, mine's (and my Ria's) faceup is done and he should be coming home soon, I'm so excited!

The artist did such a fantastic job! I basically just told her I wanted him to look tired and a bit scarred up, like we all feel after the hell year that has been 2020 X'D I think she did amazing!

    13. OMG!!! This face up is amazing!! I love the style and all the details! Thank you for sharing with us!

    14. @magkelly Congrats on your incoming girls! Dolly gifts are awesome, and I'm glad that after having yours stolen, the universe, through your friend, is giving you some new little buddies for your life! That's a really nice story! MSD dolls are a great size to be portable. When I hold a Minifee, it reminds me of how a Barbie felt to my chubby little kid hands many years ago. Aren't they a delight! I'm so happy you have this to look forward to! It really lifts the spirits, huh?

@dxgirly Awe, she's so pretty! I love colorful wigs on dollies! Desirae looks really nice with those colors against her tan skin. I'm sure now those 6 months of planning and being excited were worth it!

@Hakari-chan Oh, wow! That looks amazing! She's done a great job, and I feel that sentiment! I think that sums things up well, and I can see that inspiration coming through very well on your little guy! I can't wait for him to come home to you either!

    15. Thanks so much! Here's my Ria, while I'm at it. Going to need to get her a nice new wig to go with her fantastic face-up, the one I have just isn't good enough haha!

    16. @Hakari-chan Oh, wow! I love how your artist takes photos too! She looks really nice! That red of her lips looks really great with her tan complexion. I'm so excited for you!

    18. I am so happy to hear that~! I was always super frustrated to have to look every single head up in the past, so I decided to make the chart out of my own need and thought it would be great to help others out by sharing as I can't be the only one struggling :XD:
I have made for all other Fairyland sizes as well, which I am in the progress of making threads for atm

    20. @Nii-san_Obsessed Thank you! You really did a great job. This company just have "Too many" sculpts that one could not remember all. It's took me 4 months to select my first minifee back then... all that overwhelming data:sweat

Also, do you have plan to made a chart of non-event minifee sculpts too? Many of them had been discontinued and their data are starting to hard to collect now.

    21. @Nii-san_Obsessed Thank you so much for making the chart! I found it extremely helpful! I didn't ever think I would own a Minifee that really clicked with me. Your chart really helped me to make sure I found the right one for me! A million thanks!

    22. Right? I feel the same way! :XD:

I agree! It was my sole reason to make the minifee chart in the past! It was too confusing! I totally get how it could take that long for you to choose! It was super overwhelming to collect all the info and pictures to make this chart, it took me a week of intense research

I haven't thought about it until now, but I could perhaps make one much like the a la carte lineup with only number and names as I was quick to save them all just before they discontinued a lot of them. And then I don't know if I should make minifee/anifee anime heads lineup as well? As they made quite a few by now, even though it's close to impossible to find any but Ani (old special head with no specific anime character) blank. However I could make "headshots" much like I did with the event heads of other sizes I couldn't find blank? :)

Aww it makes me so happy to hear that, you are so very welcome! It really shows that my hard work is paying off and I am super happy that you found the right one! <3

    23. Are the Shiwoo Elf and Shiwoo Vampire Elf the "Happy Hour" versions? If so, then I have both, and they both still have original company faceups too.

I always suspected that they were really early MNFs, but I never realized that my Ichi and Trilllian were some of the very first ones! :o:love:XD:

    24. Yup, it's the Happy Hour ones <3
I got them as well, I am 100% sure one of my vampire elf (sp) ones had the original faceup, but after receiving that one I doubt that my elf (OE) one is also the original company faceup, even though I thought it was :sweat
It's super rare to see them with the original faceups now, so it's amazing that you kept yours! :D

Indeed they are! It is so funny to see! I think some of the most rare ones are the my choice #7 and Miyu winking as I have only ever seen very few owners. I try to collect one of all event heads, but I really doubt I'll ever find any of those 2. I am so close to having one of each now, so maybe some day.. :o

Poor Ichi and Trilllian had five previous caregivers before they came home to live with me. I'm glad they did, as Shiwoo is my absolute favorite sculpt! :aheartbea

But after looking at my personal notes, my two are Luts MNFs, not Fairyland MNFs. I take it that you are more focusing on the fact that they are Cerberus Project Minifees, and not just Fairyland? I'm just pointing that out, meaning no disrespect. :sweat

Trilllian will be the next one to get a body. I'm currently waiting on a body for Hisato, my Scarred Breakaway.

    26. They are both so precious! :D
Aww poor things! Good thing you got them then~ :XD:

Well since it was CP that designed the minifees and sculpts like the regular Shiwoo and Shushu moved over to FL I personally see them as just as much minifee event heads as all the others, even though they were offered while CP was still a part of LUTS. But since CP kept the name Minifee, the neck connector system and the sculpts when they founded Fairyland I really don't see much of a difference and focus on the fact that they are minifee event heads made byy CP :3nodding:

Sounds so exciting! I love Breakaway and am currently keeping an eye out for the sleeping Breakaway scar head 2nd hand to match with my regular Breakaway scar head, as he is one of the few I am still looking for in my journey to have one of each event head ❤

    27. That's what I thought you were doing, counting CP heads! :3nodding:I don't see much of a difference either, the CP team are my favorite sculpting team. :love Thank you for the love, and I hope you find the SP Scarred Breakaway. Hisato is a OE Scarred Breakaway, and I'm eagerly waiting for his body to ship home to us. :eusa_pray

@Nii-san_Obsessed, I have a question about a SD CP event head I have, mind going over to the Fairyland Feeple60 thread?

    29. @Nii-san_Obsessed , that chart should totally be in a database somewhere. I've always wondered about event heads--this was crazy useful.

Quick question, does anyone have a female Klaus? I have a pretty good idea of what I want my girl to look like when she comes in, but I'd love to see how other people have styled male molds as female.

    30. Glad to hear! I actually put all the different sizes event head charts I made under reference -> Photo reference. I don't know how to link to them in the wiki or where on the database they should be put if not just there? :)
I actually just made one for all their 1/4 anime sculpts as well as an "a la carte chart" with all the a la carte minifee sculpts on as they were, since Fairyland deleted all the discontinued ones from the a la carte section on their website and only show the available ones now. :sweat

    31. @Nii-san_Obsessed I hope that in part 66 of the thread, your charts can be linked in the OP. I have no idea how that is done exactly, since I've only maintained a thread for Popodolls.

In other news, FLAM made it on the same day as her body! I'm very happy with her and managed by complete accident, to get an outfit for her to wear while I'm waiting on her custom outfits to arrive from Russia with her spare head. Her heeled feet and #2 hands arrived yesterday. I hope to get some decent lighting this weekend so I can share some photos.

    40. Oh, wow, they are awesome, @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 ! I love the color schemes you picked for them. They look like they are best buddies!

    41. Thank you, @mollym!

Their backstory is that when they were three years old, they were both in a magical laboratory, hiding under a table when a explosion happened, causing the scarring.

    43. Does anyone have a picture of a minifee with a barbie? I'm wondering just how small minifees are..

    44. They are bigger than a standard Barbie. My Sia is still a WIP, but here she is pictured next to some of my Disney Designer dolls. Belle is the same size as a Barbie and Tiana is the LE 17" size doll which is really close to Fairyland Minifee size. In fact, some of the clothes for those dolls fit minifees. Hope this pic helps. I have other 1/6 scale dolls in a tote if you need close up comparison photos of the two next to each other.

    46. I'll take a shot for you @SacredMonsoon later tomorrow if you like, but I only have active line bodies which are slightly larger/taller than the moe line. They are closer in size to an Ellowyne Wilde Doll or Tyler Wentworth both by Toner, though the more fitted clothes will probably not fit.

    47. No prob! How is this one?

EDIT: This is the active line body, though. I don't have any Moe bodies to compare.

    48. Actually, the twins are supposed to have glitter in their scarring to represent the magical energy that was blasted into them. One day, I hope to have someone that actually knows what they're doing when it comes up to faceups and body blushing to do just that. These poor kids only have my lame attempts at faceups and body blushing. :doh:sweat

    49. You could always add glitter in there. Plenty of user-friendly options. Glitter glues in the kids crafts, or even glue saturated acrylic paints. The FolkArt line has an Extreme Glitter series that would work perfect:
      Shop Plaid FolkArt ® Extreme Glitter™ - Lime Twinkle, 2 oz. - 99251 - 99251 | Plaid Online
      Shop Plaid FolkArt ® Extreme Glitter™ - Robin's Egg Blue, 2 oz. - 2882 - 2882 | Plaid Online
It can usually be found in most craft sections of big retail stores, and definitely in any craft store.

    50. Thank you so much guys! I can really see the difference! The active line is what I'm interested in, so thank you guys! :3nodding::D

    51. Haven't shared my elf eared boys in a while, so here are cousins Elliot and Ethan. Also, these pics comparing Barbies and Minifee are pretty cool!

    52. You could always get just the two colors you need online of Jacquard pearl ex powder, mix it with gloss and apply it within the scarred areas. The smallest size .10oz would be more than enough for those spots. :3nodding: I would be careful with some basic glitters, though. I had some red glitter stain some white resin a few years ago. Maybe some glitter is dyed? I dunno. Maybe it would be okay if a clear gloss was applied first. I have never had problems with Pearl Ex staining, though.

I know that Fairyland is behind, but man I can't wait for my Luha!!! I just adore her dark, elegant face.:D I never used to be able to bond with Minifees because I disliked the larger than realistic head proportions. That sure changed! LOL From the look of the waiting room, it will still be a while. :sigh

    53. I have an old photo comparing Barbie to Minifee! I took this years ago because someone asked if MNF (they were planning on getting one) could fit into Barbie clothes, and the picture definitely helps the brain to see how much of a size difference there is.

    54. There's also Jaquard's Lumiere paint. It's acrylic with mica powder, there's metallic colors and pearlescent available from a line of 33 colors available.

Everyone's dolls look so awesome! I love how they are all from the same line, but look so different!

    55. Now, if you want, I can also take a photo next to my Lishe elf. heheh
