Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 65

Jul 31, 2020

    1. Happy Holidays everyone! :dance
Hope this year will be more friendly to all of us! Be safe and wish you to get all your grails this year if it's still not the case :kitty2
This is my beautiful Chloe and I love her even without makeup. Hope I will send her to spa soon!

    2. I sometimes envy all of you guys living in the US for having a Fairyland dealer located in your country. I remember when I started the hobby in around 2013 there were tons of European dealers and even a Fairyland dealer in my home country Germany. Over the years they all disappeared and now - correct me if I'm wrong - there is no European Fairyland dealer left.

One question though: Would it still make sense to order through Denver Doll Emporium while living in Europe? For me it wouldn't make any difference, whether I pay customs for a package from South Korea or from the US, right? Or am I missing something here? Any tips there from European Fairyland fans?

    3. Happy New Year!!

    4. If the customs charges are the same regardless of non-EU country it probably doesn't make a difference, and if DDE have the item in stock it's probably as good an idea as any. But if you're buying a new doll and it would have to go from Korea to the US to you, it would be faster to go straight from Fairyland? I live in Ireland and I have always bought straight from Fairyland, because I have found that packages from the US *always* get stopped by customs here, whereas usually packages from Asia don't, so it's like a lottery if I have to pay customs or not! Having said that I think they're being more strict because of Covid, I received two dolls in 2020 and both were charged customs, along with an order of anime figures from Japan.

    5. She is beautiful! And looking at her just reconfirms that I really need to replace the default eyes that came with my Chloe. The irises are much too big in mine. I love the eyes you have chosen. I cant wait to see a picture of her when she comes back from the spa!

    6. @Amadiel, I would go with whomever has cheapest shipping. The two or so weeks difference wouldn't trouble me, I always go cheap, LOL. Dolk is a Japanese company and also an authorized Fairyland dealer, doubt they are cheaper thoughh :(

But I will say one thing. I believe Denver Doll will fight on Fairyland's side if there is a dispute, not your side. This is my gut feeling, no proof from me. but money always wins out, thus I buy from DDE as I'm in the USA.and can save on shipping... though that's gone up a lot too!

      • x 1
    7. I'm not from Europe or in Europe, but as far as I know Denver Doll does not mark down packages for customs purposes but Fairyland does (or used to), so it could be significantly cheaper in regards to customs if you buy direct.
Things may be different now but I used to buy direct from Fairyland and my packages were always drastically marked down and labeled as 'gift'.
The advantage would be if there are any issues Denver Doll will do what they can to fix things - for example with the steampunk themed F60 fullsets - my friend ordered through DDE and they worked with Fairyland when the gun accessory arrived broken - the second one arrived broken as well and they offered a partial refund I believe? I don't remember the final outcome but I do know they did a lot of work to make things right.
The only other advantage would be if the doll is in stock at Denver Doll, then you'd skip the pre-shipping wait.

    8. I've not seen any Fairyland dealers in Europe for a long time since Think Pink ended (?) their business. I'm located in Europe, I've always ordered straight from Fairyland becouse I just figured it out that if I don't need to make a layaway which you can have with Denver Doll, I can order straight from them. For me it would be just more hassle if the doll would first go to US, then they would inform me about it and send it out (Not sure about how it works with them). If there's any problems with the doll/s I can contact Fairyland myself. If I would need a layaway I would go to Denver Dolls, I've read they are very good with that and sometimes have dolls in stock so if there's anything ready without months of waiting time.. snatch it before it's gone. I've looked at their site sometimes in thought that if they have some in stock items... :)

Finnish customs snatch all shipments coming outside EU and they don't care what has been written in the parcel as a value. I prepare paying the custom fees (tax and custom fee all together almost 30% of the price/shipping). I've almost never gotten my parcels without that so I will need to prepare for it in advance.

    9. @xaya : Haha, yes, german customs works like that, too. I guess they know the strategy of marking down packages, so they are generally suspicious, haha.
If they keep your package they usually send a letter and then you have to go to the local customs office, bring the invoice for the packe and get it there. I usually had to open the packages as well since they even want to see what's in there. Had that several times now with different items from South Korea.

@eleniel : Yup, I just recently learned, they often have Minifees in stock as well. Have to keep an eye on their website.
The thing with marking down the packages doesn't really work here, I guess. At least not for me. I once ordered a doll from Iplehouse directly, the package was marked as gift and I still had to go to my local customs office and show them the invoice and had to pay full customs. I think it's kind of a lottery if they decide to keep your package or not.

Thank you everyone for your input. I think I will probably order from Fairyland directly and see how it works out with customs.

    10. He does - his horns are considerably more yellow than he himself!

    11. Thank you! :blush

Thank you! Generally I use 12mm eyes for my dolls even if it's not recommended lol. 14mm is a good choice too but I think it's better when it's not too much dark ^^

    13. Oh my gosh, @Annaku I just realized your girl has a couple of pet chameleons on her! LOL, so CUTE, are they her pets? And happy belated New Year, sorry I missed your photo!

Oh wow, she is gorgeous, @CherryBlossom , I love her teeth!

@eihpos29, is she "that" Yuna? If not, she sure looks like her, minus the long braid, that is. :3nodding:

Happy New Year everyone, and thanks for showing me your gorgeous dolls! I hope to hear from DDE that Hisato's A-line body has shipped some time this month. :eusa_pray

    16. I'm trying to keep myself contained! But I cannot help to see all these beautiful dolls and get really excited to have one too! I just never thought I would have a Minifee myself, and have been admiring them from a distance for a long time! Thanks to all of you for your help! I would have been so lost without you. They are all so beautiful and I'm enjoying getting to know all of you in the thread. Team Minifee on DoA is an awesome group and I regret not wandering into the thread long before now. You all are fantastic!

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 I'm so happy for you too! What configuration did you choose from DDE? I'm a little late to this party and trying to learn about everyone and their dolls. Which head does Hisato have? What all are you doing to prepare for the body arrival?

    17. Happy new year to you too!
If you mean Yuna from the Final Fantasy 10 game, yes you're correct :XD: I based her on the characters look and used the name hehe

    18. I love her face!! The face up is so suitable for her!!! This is a great photo!

    19. Thank you for the love, @mollym! :blush

My MNFs are all older versions. Hisato is a *takes a deep breath* 2009 Fairyland Scarred Breakaway with Lightening Scare arm and hand in normal skin. Whew! :whee: He's been using a 2014 Mirodoll 1/4th body, and I finally can give him the Renew Active line/A-Line body I wanted to give him. IIRC, back when I got him the Mirodoll body, FL didn't sell MNF bodies separately. Here is a pic with most of my MNFs.

L to R: Chiyoko: (2009 FL Scarred Shiwoo with Fire scar arm on a A-line female body with large bust and cutie legs), Ichi: (2007 Luts/CP Elf Shiwoo Happy Hour version on a 2010 Fairyland A-line muscular boy body) and Hisato, soon to have a 2020 Renew A-line muscular boy body).

    20. @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Your collection is really cool! I remember seeing break-away parts before. They don't show themselves very often anymore, which is a pity. I'm glad you shared yours. Those special heads and parts are a lot of fun, and a little different than the cutesy ones that Fairyland is most known for. I love older dolls! I've seen several over the years and think that they are always a fun treat to see.

My son has a Karsh. Here is a photo of him with a mommy-made Face-up. He has a break-away arm that I've not seen before or since. That must have been an event. I'm not quite certain as I always try to buy from other collectors before placing orders for new dolls. I got him some years back second hand from friends.

My incoming girl will have the Flam head. I forgot that Instagram and Flickr tags are a thing, and did find some great examples. Looking at more general MF tags, all the dolls I thought were especially appealing were Flam, so I think I made the right choice since all I have as a resource are internet user photos. I lucked out while searching and found a second Flam head which makes me feel more secure about having an older event head as my favorite. Maybe more are circulating around the world than I can imagine, but if it's a doll that would be difficult to replace, it's nice to have a back-up. Payday is tomorrow, so I plan to get heel feet and the #2 hands for my girl tomorrow! I'm so excited to have her home soon. I hope she is here in whole by the end of the month. The body will be shipped out on the 14th in my own country. The seller and I decided to give the postal system a break in hopes the backlog of packages has a chance to clear.

      • x 5
    21. I believe that's sometimes called the Fire Scar arm. Pretty sure it came in the same event as the Scar Shiwoo head, as seen in @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 's post. :)

      • x 2
    22. Oh, okay, that's really cool. I do think my friends had the scar Shiwoo head at the time too, but I'm trying to remember from many, many years back. I did come across a chart on Flickr with many (most?) of the event heads, but I had no clue about the arm, how it was included, if it came on a doll, etc..... I was still new to the hobby at the time I first met a MiniFee. I've admired them for a long time but was really nervous to try due to the recast issues. I trust my friends and they are good about keeping original receipts and such for all their dolls. Thankfully, DoA exists and good collectors are very firm in their stance on the issues of fraud. However, the small pockets of BJD collectors outside DoA are starting to make firm stances as well, so I count this as a big plus. Forums might be a little hard to navigate for younger people, so there are times I have explored outside the forum. I like it here best, and I'm so thrilled this is such an active thread! You all are so knowledgeable and helpful!

    23. :dohOh, sorry, @mollym, I may have forgotten to mention that I have all the Scarred parts for my twins. :sweat The arms, hands, and even Chiyoko's Fire Scarred Bracer, but she doesn't usually wear it.

I too used to get almost exclusively pre-loved dolls, but that was more because many sellers don't mind layaway. Hisato has the arm and hand, but it was hybrided onto the Mirodoll body for a number of years, it was simply hidden by his kimono. The poor boy is currently a floating head, so the arm and hand are put away until his body comes home. I fell in love with Chiyoko's Scarred Fire face before I even realized that she was a Minifee, and then the seller had all the parts so....

@thakyuki is correct. I think that the Scarred heads with their body parts were event giveaways, either a Juri (IIRC, it means "summer") or a NaNuRi (IIRC, it means "winter".)

Your son's Karsh is a good-looking dude! I love how casually he's sitting on the chair, is he a Scarred head, or just his arm and hand? I fell out of the hobby for a bit due to health issues, so I may have missed that event.

I googled Flam heads, what a cutie! :D:3nodding: I really like the newer heads, but not very many have actively said "bring me home," which is a good thing for my small house and my wallet!

      • x 1
    24. That's awesome you have all the scar parts! Chiyoko is super cool, you have good taste. Did the arms come with heads or were they separate events? I've not followed Fairyland, so I don't really understand how their events work now, or in the past. I like to get dolls from other collectors. There are some really great vendors, and I've purchased some new. If I see something that I can get from another collector, I like that option because it helps them and me. The only downside is if there is damage in shipping. Thankfully, that only has happened once but it's a real fear along with packages being lost.

Karsh isn't a scar head. My son wanted him to look very charred. His best friend is a dragon boy. His Karsh is named Pyro, and has a thing for fire, lol. I've commissioned a new outfit for him. If I can get my son to login to his account and post when it arrives, I will. Otherwise, I'll do a photo myself. Pyro poses really well. My son made a little photo shoot that was really cute, that one was a photo he did and posed Pyro himself. He wasn't old enough yet when he did a big set, so I stored the photos for him. He's old enough to post as he pleases now. I think he's been so busy with school he forgets the forum exists. I also think younger people have trouble understanding forums since all they may be familiar with is changing social media platforms.

I'm not sure when I'll have my Flam together. There are 3 packages on their way to me from overseas. South Korea, Russia and Spain all seem to be moving much faster than packages in the US. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but the only thing I can do is be patient. I hope that the body being held until the 14th works out for the best. The body seller is in the US too, but we thought we could give USPS a break and hope they catch up with the backlog from the holiday.

    25. There were a total of five "scar" event items - three scar heads (Shiwoo, Breakaway, and Sleeping Breakaway), two scar arms- the lightning arm and the fire arm and the scar chest piece. The Lightning arm was released with the Scar Breakaway head - there is one of the old release photos here.

My friend and I took a while to collect two sets of each of the arms and chest piece so that we could outfit our twin Scar MNFs - hers is the Shiwoo and mine is the Breakaway.

Here is a shot of my Breakaway, with both arms and the chest piece -
      [IMG]

the MNF Scar Breakaway was then recreated as an F65 Scar Ital, often referred to as the "eye" Scar Ital, to differentiate between it and faceplate with a scar across the nose. You can see kind of comparison here

    26. Ok the topic at hand is making me want to take some pix of my boys with the scar arms. Devlin my Vamp WooSoo who has both scar arms painted to be kind of open wounds/fresh scars as he is meant to be a 13 your old demon and mix cute and creepy.

Then there is Victor my modded scar Breakaway who is other MNF with a scar arm. He is the lone odd man out of my MNFs, kind of literally. I normally style my male MNF to be younger teens between 13 and 15. However Victor is styled to be an adult as he is meant to be the reanimated corpse of Mr. Victor Frankenstein post his death in the book. Fun fact of the day kids, no where in the book Frankenstein is Victor called doctor he is mostly reffed a M. Frankenstein or mister, but not doctor.

As is Devlin just got a new wig so maybe now is a good time to try and get new pix, and show my scarred boys some love.

    27. A friends minifee has shipped out from DDE and I think I made my order for my Mirwens around the same time, so I am hoping that'll be a good sign for my girls being almost done! I bought two blank mirwens with some extra hands and the event head awhile back, and I am on month five of my wait, so it'll be six months at the end of January. It'll also be my birthday at the end of the month, so I am hoping they'll make it here in time for it or beforehand! :celebrate Anyone have a preferred eye size for Mirwen? I am thinking 12mm will be a solid bet?

      • x 2
    28. I'd say 12mm works best if you want a more realistic look, 14mm if you want a more "doll" like look. Mirwens eyes arent that big either, so personally I'd def go for 12mm :)

Regarding the new Dina, does anyone know how long it roughly takes for fairyland to upload a blank photo of her? I'm always curious to see them blank vs face up :)

    29. If anyone is looking to pair a baby with the Minifee's..............Dream Valley Ding works pretty darn well. I put him with Celine just to see what I thought and they are darn near perfect scale together.

    30. You're such an encyclopedia, but in a fantastic way. I love being reminded of what happened in the past, especially with such authority, LOL :D Back in those days, I mostly only had puki puki dolls and other tinies, and never thought I'd end up going bigger, which ... yah, I obviously have, LOL :D

    31. Not about everything though!

    32. @TeaPartyRevolution That is awesome to learn about the scar parts. I never had an idea about the chest pieces! That's so awesome you and your friend were both able to customize your dolls with all the parts!

@Tippetarius I would love to see your dolls!

@Epona Congrats to your friend. I'm sure yours will be right along. Everyone has been so good to have extra patience this past year. It's been a tough one for sure. I'm really excited for you to have your doll.

@JinCIncy I've looked at that baby a few times. He's super cute! Your girl is beautiful. I love her eye and wig combo. I've wondered how the baby would pair with other dolls, and now I know!

      • x 2
    33. @mollym, when I bought each of my twins, their scar parts came with them. Since many people used to sell various event parts separately, I now know how lucky I was!

I wasn't sure if your Karsh was an event head or not. I haven't been following FL as much as I used to, I'm afraid I'll see a doll I want, and since I usually prefer SDs and larger, that is a problem when you live in a small house. Tell your son that Pyro is really cool-looking! I can't wait to see the pics of him when he gets his outfit!

Be sure to post pics of your Flam when she gets home, I love seeing progression pics when someone gets and then styles a new arrival. :3nodding:

@TeaPartyRevolution, thank you! I didn't know that there was a third body part, but I knew about the Sleeping Breakaway. Hmmm...maybe I should put up a WTB thread for that head and chest piece, they're pretty cool!:love

      @JinCIncy, what a nice pic.:D

    34. Certainly on Fairyland though :D

      • x 1
    35. @mollym The chest piece was released a lot later than the heads and the arms, so its not surprising that a lot of people didn't realise it existed.

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Like I said, it was a strange release all on its own.

@IngieBee not the new stuff, I've kind of stopped paying attention because I'm not a fan of what they're producing!

    36. I'm so sad that the Iru head has been discontinued. :...(:...( I want him so much!

    37. Hey everyone! I hang out in the fairlyland waiting room but I just wanted to talk more here too! Lol.

I ordered Luha in October and I've been getting so antsy because I fell in love with her sculpt and i just want to see more pictures of her! I saved the official pictures on my phone and I look at them often  I can't wait to see what everyone does with their girls when they arrive.

For myself I don't have a particular plan in mind, but I've ordered some eyes and wigs to see which suits her best. I'm kinda obsessed with buying different wig types haha

      • x 4
    38. I do the same thing with Dina haha I just look at her and zoom in on her face to see the makeup details. Luha is so pretty too! Are you getting her special lip biting head too?

      • x 4
    39. @lully.lullers yes! I got her as my first fullset ever and decided to go all in and get the sleeping head plus the event head! I'm a fan of Dina as well! They look like they could make good sisters, I would love to order one one day.. :)

      • x 1
    40. @sweetpotato Awe! I'm sure that Iru will come into your life! There is probably one that will need a home and like to be with you. I hope you can find them!

@paintmeblue Nothing wrong with having spare wigs and eyes! Even if they don't seem right for a particular doll, they can work for the short-term and give you a better idea of what you would want to do differently. I bet yours will be home very soon!

    41. Haha you're right Luha looks like the younger sister and Dina the older. To me at least. Dina is my first fullset! And the first doll that I bought with the company faceup.

    43. I did the same thing for my 1/3 dolls. I have about 7 extra 1/3 wigs and sometimes even use them to see what color/style would look best on my minifees - even though they don't fit.

Here is a picture of Tanner (Chloe) with my new Sircca who isn't named yet, who came today. Because she was an instock DDE impulse buy, she is wearing a wig meant for the NS Mirwen I ordered in November.

    44. I agree with @mollym @sweetpotato that these dolls do show up, sometimes when you least expect it, and it's very likely you'll be able to get one in the future. :D

Your Kyle is super cute and very boyish there, LOL Lots of attitiude! @Kirahfaye

Oh, they look great together, are they both tan dolls, @Dollquest ? It might be the lighting, but they seem darker?? So beautiful, both of them!

      • x 1
    45. @Kirahfaye Your boy is delightful! It seems to me the Minifee guys can't help but to be super cool and casual. They do pose like a dream for sure. I'd expect the same from the girls, but can't recall ever handling one to see for myself, but the photos here from owners make me believe they pose just as easily and well.

@sweetpotato My best advice is to keep an eye open in the market place, Instagram and reputable Facebook groups. You may consider some overseas auction sites if you are comfortable using a proxy. On rare occasions, collectors do sell second hand on eBay, but it's important to check to see if the seller is an individual person or a professional scammer selling recasts. Being careful can protect you from fraud and it's always the best idea to pay with PayPal goods and services in case someone may attempt to fraud you. I'm sure you can find your dream doll, but it does take some patience, luck and keeping funds available when it happens.

@Dollquest Your girls are beautiful! I really like their wigs.

    46. @Dollquest Your girls are so beautiful. Sircca was one of the competitive sculpts I had looked while choosing my minifee too, and even I end up with Klaus, I still admire Sircca a lot. :3nodding:

Short question : Any suggestion brand or place to buy good quality minifee high heel boots for boy?

I want to boost his hight about 1-2cm. So, I'm in need of a pair of boyish (but with high heel) boots. :evilplot:

    47. @xxxsaturnxxx how about these , or I see other possibilities under shoes/boots at acbjd.com , especially the boots ?

    48. Haha! Yes, Noble has more than enough attitude! His back story is that of a former court assassin turned bounty hunter. @Ban Sidhe did an incredible job modding his sleeping eyes open, particularly the one with the scar.

    49. I agree, his eyes give him that awesome attitude :D @Kirahfaye

    50. I've been meaning to ask - What are some great places to buy Minifee girl shoes - I want flats, heels, heeled boots, and hightop athletic shoes. I've gotten some MSD size but one pair (Dollmore) was too large and I had to give it to my sm. Doll. The (Dollmore) heels I got are too big. Even stuffed, they show too much toe and just don't look right. There are 2 styles at DDE meant for Minifees. I bought one of those, but that's all I've found that really work. Ive even looked at making my own shoes. My poor girls are barefooted most of the time! I find it odd that I can find nice inexpensive shoes for my 1/3 sized dolls but not my Minifees.

    51. @IngieBee Yes, they are both tan - in stock at DDE. My wallet requests that I no longer check the in stock dolls there:lol: I have a NS doll (Mirwen) on order from November.

@xxxsaturnxxx Thanks! It's funny, I didn't think much of Sircca until I saw DDE's photograph of the actual doll. I had Celine and Maya on my wish list. I am so glad I got Sircca though. She is even better looking in person. I will have to take more photos of her with my "big girl" camera. The cellphone doesn't do her justice!

thanks @mollym! I belive they were both purchased on Etsy from DollandCraft. It was their Long Wavy wig and comes in a lot of colors. I will probably eventually get alpaca wigs for them but these wigs are very nice for the price and they fit well.

    52. @Dollquest I would also like to know about shoes. My best guess would be Etsy. I have some shoes that came on an off-topic doll that I don't like, so I was planning on stealing those for the MNF. I'm getting another pair with a dress from the person selling me their MNF body, so I know those will fit. There are a few pair in the market place.

When I've looked for shoes for my Angel Philia, it seemed like every pair I liked were MNF sized! Sometimes, it feels like when you try to get something specific, you find everything except what you are after. Girl dolls are just so hard to find shoes to fit. I'm thinking up ways to simply start making some myself in the future.

    53. @IngieBee Thank you. The first one look work. I'll consider it, still not sure it will fit minifee or not since they have very small feet:huh?:.

    54. Well, at Alice's they at least give the interior dimensions of the shoes, which should help?? But like I said, my dolls aren't the moe line dolls, and I don't know if or how different their feet are ??

    55. Moe line feet are so so small, I got my Moe boy active line feet so he could find shoes. XD

    56. Yah, that's what I'm worried about @Tippetarius , LOL, but then the boy I just ordered last month is active line, so no worries :)

    57. I just don’t know what to do. I really regret not getting Luha and now I’m unsure about Dina....I’m not the fullest type I guess but I’d like the fantasy head parts....

There’s an Etsy shop Helensdollclothes and she makes beautiful crocheted shoes that fit Minifee perfectly. I’ve got Ballerina flats and boots from her and they look super cute and are very affordable. I think they’re great for getting a shoe collection.

    58. @mollym Thank you mollym for your detailed suggestions!!! I will keep looking for him from different platforms! Yeah, you are right about the frauds on eBay and I know there are lots of recasts of Fairyland dolls. I will keep cautious about this. And also I will be patient! :3nodding::3nodding:
