Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 65

Jul 31, 2020

    1. @xxxsaturnxxx Thank you so much for sharing the Ringdoll outfit. I really wanted to get the Miu full set for one of my girls, but the owners photos of it were disappointing.

    2. @PaeoniaDrop Oh! I'm still didn't see any Miu owner's photo. Is that girl start shipping already?:aeyepop:

Also, does anyone have a tip about restringing an active line boy body? I'm still a newbie in fairyland's bjd world. :sweat Klaus is my first doll of this company. I'm now studying his poseability. Do their legs normally kicking? Or should I try to adjust the string again? *_*

    3. I have two activeline boys they are wiggly/fiddly even when strung right, legs kick, torso parts slip alignment etc. That said a teeny
tiny bit of hot glue fixes the random movements a lot. I found the motion and fairyline bodies are a lot less wiggly, but I still give those touch of hot glue sueding too.

      • x 1
    4. @Tippetarius is correct. A little bit of hot glue sueding helps with the kickyness. I have both a classic A-Line boy and girl, and that's what I needed to do to prevent their kickiness. I'm also guessing that I might have to do that for Hisato's incoming Renewal A-line body. *shrug*

    5. Thanks @Tippetarius and @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 , 'cause I'm going to be getting my first A-line boy body though all my mnf girls are closing in on 10 years old!. I'll have my glue gun at the ready! :D

    6. I am poking my head out of lurker-dom to say hello. :frownyblush: I could not resist and put the full package Dina on layaway. She's going to be my first fullset doll ever in 11 years of being in the hobby. I can't wait to see her. I think I have been bitten by the MNF bug.

      • x 1
    7. I have been bitten by the bug too! :XD: It's a sneaky little thing! Dina is going to be my first fullset too!:chibi

Do you have other minifees on your wishlist?

    8. After 11 years, you have been strong in resisting, yet as you see, it was futile. Welcome to the borg... I mean mnf cult. Fairyland got ya in the end, Muha ha ha ha ha :mwahaha

Dina is adorable though. So ya'all have been brought down by a special doll, can't wait to see pictures!!!

    9. I changed several of my gals into their jewel tone dresses - last years Christmas gift
from a dear friend - and wanted to share their lovely faces and dresses for this holiday.

    10. @Tippetarius @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Thank you for the tip. I will research more about hot glue sued! (Still afraid that it will be hard to remove and replace once done:abambi:) I'm more used to the kip system of other dolls I own, but for minifee it just... Idk.

@LiselT @lully.lullers. Congratulation Dina is really cute sculpt. I'll wait to see her pic.

@IngieBee Mnf cult is the real things. They just have too many sculpt that even you can resist one, you might fall for the other.

    11. @lully.lullers It really is! But there’s just something about Dina and her fullset that just put out the siren call xD

I actually have one minifee that I got last year (and she was the doll to break my 10 year standing rule) that I hope in spring to send to get blushed. She’s a tan Celine (named Violet) who is kind of my mini-me/mascot for my eventual branding on my artwork. <3 I also have a NS Chloe I’m waiting on as well. The bug definitely bit hard!

@IngieBee Ahaha. All it took was one to break my rule and I was done xD; It doesn’t help they are so... reasonably priced in comparison to the fact that I usually collect SDs only until this past year. I have gone down the rabbit hole, oh dear! At least it’s a fun slide!

I am excited for my Dina. She’s already told me her name is Aylin and she will be a long distance twin to a friend who is also getting one. I can’t wait to eventually take pics of the girls together (...if pandemic ever permits Dx).

@Robyn_in_WA Your girls are lovely. I especially like the blue dress!

    12. It peels right out! Great for redoing until you get it right!
I need to suede Gil (El muscle). He's so dramatic, flopping everywhere...

    13. Just make sure you use a low-temp hot glue gun! The high temperature may be too hot for the doll resin. My oldest boy has been hot glue sueded, and it helps him pose so much better. One day I will suede everyone else. I haven't done it in years, so I don't remember who's been sueded.

    14. IIRC, a high temp hot glue gun will actually melt resin! :o So make sure you only use a low temp glue gun. :3nodding:

      Ryu

    15. Well, I don't know if a craft glue gun can be high temperature, but resin is super durable. I had an extra pair of Iplehouse hands in their unstable real skin back in 2010 or so, I decided to boil it to move fingers etc... so I boiled it, and then I compared to the body, no color change at all. I then boiled an arm of my elfdoll which had a hole in it due to my cat biting her, and the hole almost completely disappeared! *was on an arm, no faceup/body blushing* And I've used hotglue for wigs, no damage. But I can't remember what temperature I used it at. But, all the above, in my opinion, are safe things to do do with resin, so don't be too scared. You probably need cooler temp hot glue anyway because you want to smear it if you can, and that usually means fingers and low temp is still painfully hot, LOL (use sticks if you can, but lets face it, fingers are great to spread the stuff thin :o LOL

    16. I finally faceupped my minifee Sylvia! His name is still pending, and I can't figure out how I want his hair to be like. He's a witchy/druidic type any suggestions?

He's hybrided on a Myou type 2 body. Very tall looking.

    17. @helenb92 She's a cutie! I love seeing fullset dolls in a different skin color than the stock pictures.

I made a mistake of checking DDE's in stock Minifees. They have a tan Kai that I've fallen for after looking at others on Instagram. I don't have money to pick him up right now! :...(

      • x 2
    18. @helenb92 - She's beautiful! I love those purple tones with her pale skin.

Is the white skin pure "porcelain" white or does it have any pink in it? It looks so pure white in your photos!

      • x 1
    19. @thakyuki - thank you, of only we could buy all the fullset dolls in all the skin tones- that would be amazing right?! it's always nice to see how the faceups vary on skin tone too, it can completely change the feel of the doll I think? Best of luck with your Kai! I hope you can snag him, sadly I think he was part of the discontinued sculpts?:(

@StellaMarigold - thank you! The white I would describe as a marble white, I think as it ages it will be more ivory in colour? Here is a photo by a friend of mine showing a good comparison between TS, NS and WS. :3nodding:

    20. I'm getting so impatient for my Sylvia now that I've paid off my DDE layaway! Seeing them arriving to others is getting me excited all over again that I took the plunge on buyer her.

      • x 1
    21. @helenb92 - Oh, what a nice photo comparison! Thank you! I really love the tan skin, too, but I would want all the hand options and it's so hard to find them (and to preorder them) in tan. I was thinking of ordering white skin and possibly dying (if I didn't fall in love with the white haha).

    22. What a cool faceup, @Thymeseer
Wow!! Wow Wow Wow! She is ... Wow! Gorgeous isn't enough :)

    23. Thank you for the photo. I like your Sylvia. Previously, I only bought dolls with natural skin and tan skin, as I was afraid of yellowing in the end, but now I will also look at dolls with white skin.

    24. @helenb92 Thank you for sharing your beautiful Sylvia! I was wondering how WS looked for the full set dolls, and she looks fantastic!

    25. @helenb92 I think the doll and pictures are just gorgeous. Love so many WS dolls but still scarred to take the plunge.

@thakyuki I had never seen a tan Kai before. You made me go and take a look. Don't want to make it worse for you sorry but OMG he's just amazing:love

    26. I really like Fairyland WS. It ages well in my opinion (I have a WS girl from 2009 and a WS girl from 2017) and ends up just getting a bit more creamy white. It doesn't end up very yellow in my opinion.

Here is my WS girl from 2017. Tallis is a Halloween 17 (a very underrated sculpt in my opinion!)

    27. Thank you so much!!

    28. @malvinas - That's nice to know about Fairyland WS! I guess they've improved their resin from the "beauty green" days. Your girl is absolutely, lovely, by the way! So much texture in that faceup.

    29. Yes I definitely think they have. I have a WS Delf Chiwoo head from waaaay back and he's a very different shade than even my 2009 WS Minifee Lishe.

    30. Ooh I love her so much! it's true, though, you definitely don't see many of them around, which is too bad D8

    31. @helenb92 : Your Sylvia looks beautiful. Congrats on getting her.
@malvinas : Thank for the info about the aging of the WS. I've been wanting to order a Minifee in WS for years, but never got around to do it because a) I always wondered how and if WS yellowed and b) I can't decide for a sculpt for the life of me! They are all so pretty. I've decided I want a sculpt with white eyelashes, but now they released Dina and she looks cute, too..

Does anyone know if Fairyland is open for custom faceups? For example if I order Dina and ask them to put Lucywen's face up on her? I think Iplehouse does that, but I'm not quite sure. Does anyone have experience with that?

      • x 1
    32. Fairyland does not, and never has done custom face-ups. You get the one pictured or none at all XD
I do remember back in the day that Luts used to do that, when they were still partnered with CP, but even they stopped doing that pretty early on. Like... 07 or 08 or something.

    33. @Hakari-chan : I was expecting something like that... What a bummer, that would open a whole new path of possibilities.
Too bad, I wouldn't even have a problem to pay more for that service.
I can understand if they don't do that during events, since they have so many orders. But maybe offer that option for a la carte dolls.

    34. They're not a big team, but they are an extremely popular company, so it really just wouldn't be feasible for them to do custom face-ups. That's so much more involved with back and forth with clients, not to mention they also don't have a full time translator anymore. There's a reason the vast majority of doll companies don't do custom face-ups, lol. It's not worth the marginal increase in income to have to put up with everything that comes with it while also making the dolls.

    35. Good point, never thougth about that. Thanks for your input.
Maybe I'll consider to entrust a stand-alone face-up artist with that, might be the better option, anyway.

    36. There's a lot of extremely talented people around the site, I definitely recommend you browse around and find someone you like! You might find someone whose style you like even more than Fairyland's ^__^

    39. I just realized with all the orders I did this year, I've practically doubled my MNF collection. :aeyepop:
I ordered Erda and Carol at the beginning of the year, their event heads are currently waiting for bodies that are on order. Then there's the tan Luka that was ordered at the end of July, and the four that I put on a long layaway because they're being discontinued.

      • x 3
    40. @thakyuki I started the year with two, and I'll end up with seven, thanks to discontinuations and Dina. I'd been planning on slowly shelling members of my idol band over time, but since four out of the five sculpts I wanted (Tika, Erda, Mika, and Mio) were being discontinued, it moved me up a bit. They're on long layaway too though, except Dina.

    41. Fairyland WS (and CP for that matter) is a lovely WS... it goes a delightful creamy colour. Here's the photo that I drag out when people ask about WS - these are my WS dolls. The oldest is the LTF with the horns (he's from 2008) and the newest is my 2014 MNF Chloe (with the pink hair and the tatts). The others range between those two years (although a few I picked up secondhand). I don't store my dolls in cupboards or anything like that - they sit in south-facing rooms and have for years.

    42. @TeaPartyRevolution - I remember this photo! It's nice to hear the white skin holds up well. Even your little horned guy looks really good!

    43. I love that staircase @KimC the scale looks perfect!!

@eihpos29 , she looks fantastic, great job!

Glad to see I'm not the only one on long layaways due to Fairyland's cruel treatment of their customers :...(:chomp::...( @Magnus Vale

      Always gorgeous @TeaPartyRevolution :thumbup

    44. Thank you IngieBee <3 I'm so glad I finally got to use it.

    45. I love her attitude!! Who did her faceup?

    46. Oh, wow! Everyone has such great dolls! I've never had my own Minifee before. Until recently, I was trying really hard to avoid getting into the rabbit hole too far with my collection and avoid MSDs... but one thing led to another and I got an MSD, so now all is fair-game right?

I've read through some threads but I have some confusion. So, long story short I will have a Flam, but she will need a body. The only Minifee I know is my son's elf Karsh (he has muscles, don't know anything else) and we bought him from friends. I'm a little confused to know what I need to do to order a girl body. I'll go with Denver Doll Emporium and do so online because I bought from that shop before online and it was very easy.

I'd like to get the body with the cutie bust and legs so she can hopefully fit a youngish character, about 10 or 11 years old. However, I want high-heel feet and flat feet because the shoes are all really cute, and if I get the extra hands and feet at the same time, then the resin should all look good together even though the Flam head is a little older, I can be okay to blush one piece if needed.

Which feet come with a girl's body? It's the New Active Line and I cannot tell from the fairyland site or Denver doll, so I thought to ask advice from all of you with more experience. Also, any general advice? I've only owned YOSD, smaller and SD and bigger dolls before now.

    47. @Kateryu Thank you! Her Faceup was done by Komorebi Dolls (@rianne here on DoA).

@mollym - the renewal A-line body will come with flat feet only. You will need to order any additional hands and the heel feet separately. As far as general advice I would say just be aware that standard msd clothes and shoes will be too big for minifee. They are smaller than the majority of msd size dolls by a good deal. Congrats on your Flam!

      • x 2
    48. There are 2 basic girl bodies Moe line and Active line. The cutie bust can only be ordered on the Active line. You will need A-line heel feet for the active line body. (It comes with flat feet.) The new bodies all attach the feet with magnets so don’t buy the “hook” feet. The active line also has cutie legs. Welcome to Minifees! Denver Doll Emporium has been great to me. You can call them during their business hours and they can help you find what you need if you have questions.

      • x 1
    49. @malvinas Thanks so much! Yes, I suppose if I 'accidentally' ended up with the regular sized clothes or shoes, they wouldn't go to waste, probably some other dolls around here could use them. I've thought of getting a MSD from Resin Soul, and I think they are slim like Minifee, but I would have to find out. It's sure handy when dolls can share clothes, shoes and patterns. I have so many kinds of dolls, but there are even more types of dolls that I have no clue! So glad for so many of you all that have a vast amount of experience, it's making everything so much easier!

@Dollquest Okay, that explains a whole lot that confused me. I thought it was likely that A-line and active line were the same thing, but I wasn't too sure. What is the difference between the New active line and the one from before? When did the New one become standard? If you know. I'm so glad you have helped me so quickly already. I'm glad to know that flat feet are standard. Do you know which number the default hands would be? I think the #2 hands that make a heart are so cute, I cannot resist those. Knowing myself as I do, I'll probably get all the hands available at some point, but the magnet system is so great and easy to use! I had thought to call, but I work long hours for night-shift so when I do calls during regular hours, I'm not really 'with it' and I've heard that the shop owner can be grumpy at times. I did an online purchase with layaway for an in-stock doll once and it was so easy, I never talked to the shop owner. They shipped quickly and it went with no issues, so that was good.

      • x 1
    50. @mollym I think girls get hands #3 as default and know that boys get hands #7, I am less sure of the girls then the boys as only have one girl right now. (Someday will have 3 when my Luha girls get here.) Also the hands fit both genders so pair #2 works on boys and girls.

      • x 1
    51. According to Denver Doll's website, the girls do have #3 as a default and the guys #7 (I checked recently). I think all the hands are so pretty! It's hard to resist them :)

      • x 1
    52. I forgot about getting hands! I have on order my first boy, and wow, I need to get him hands too!!!

    53. You are right. ResinSoul MSDs (at least the bodies that Ya and Mei come with) and Minifees are of similar size and can share clothes. These are the two MSD types I have. Their feet are nearly identical in size too. It is important to look at the measurements of the shoes when buying shoes as @malvinas mentioned. I have bought a few pairs that even said they were for minifees and they are so big that even if you stuff the toes, they look strange. Denver Doll lists the foot length for the flat feet in their doll descriptions. As for clothing, most people on Etsy differentiate between Slim MSDs and regular MSDs. Usually the Slim MSD clothing fits the Minifees.

    54. Could I request some carols? :D:cheer

      • x 2
    55. Thanks @Dollquest ! I had been looking at Mei for some years, so that is fantastic news! I'll probably order her in a couple months. I'm so happy that you have both those dolls and can tell me for sure. I'm always looking for the regular MSD shoes, because of my Angel Philias, they could never have enough shoes. I started with boy dolls. They are hard to find outfits for my tastes, but girl shoes are much, much more complicated. It's a good reason I sometimes daydream about just making shoes myself. That's a great tip about Etsy too. I'll get her something basic to wear and see how it all goes.

Thanks for all of your help so quickly! I've accomplished a lot today around the house and with online dolly things. I've have located a body for Flam already! I may even have her body before her head arrives to me (US) from Spain! I think I do have a pair of lavender sneakers that came with an off-topic doll I don't like very much, so she will get those right away. I'm pretty sure they will fit. I'm so used to waiting months upon months to get a doll, having one come in a month's time is a different experience.

I remembered that there are loads of photos on Flickr, and found that a lot of the Minifees I really liked in photos were Flam. I think a long time ago I had liked a Juri head, but they can't be a common one because I've not seen many and quickly gave up that dream. I have always thought Minifees were really cute, but didn't think I would get one. It's refreshing to get a doll from a popular line. Most of the others are not popular at all.

Thanks again to all that have helped with posting and sharing all the photos. It took a bit to read all I could, but it's really great information that has proven to be very valuable. I hope I can get some decent quality photos to share sooner than later.
